Only the Crusaders were happy at home in the 7 Super 14 matches of the weekend!

Of course, the only 2 sides who can really feel satisfied with the 1st round results are the High-stepping Champions, the Bulls and the Crusaders. These 2 winning sides were the only ones to score a full 5 Log Points in their respective wins.

The Lions hosted the Stormers at the “Coke-Tin” late this afternoon. This is the match thread for discussion of the game. The game was broadcast on SuperSport 1 in SA on TV.

The Stormers had a good First half, scoring all their points and clearly overshaddowed the Lions in the Fist Half. The Second Half was different, only 7 points coming in the whole half, the Lions always playing catch-up. In the end the Stormers won comfortably, 26 / 13. No bonus points was earned for tries.

All in all, the game was a dour affair.

The sharks have made some forced and some unforced changes as they go into battle with the Waikato Chiefs this comming weekend, none more so then the flyhalf position after the shock retirement of newly aquired Flyhalf Steve Meyer.

We wish him well, sadly did not get to see the potential there was spoken of, Maybe soon there will be a reason given for this as it is known that he would have started for the Sharks the weekend. Continue reading

IT HAS NOW ALSO COME TO LIGHT THAT THE SHARKS WILL KEEP ALBERTS IN THE TEAM UNLESS THE COURT DECIDES OTHERWISE ON FRIDAY,

Sharks v Lions: Case heading to court , again South African rugby is not able to resolve issues that makes it show itself more spineless and useless every day.

Centre of controversy is the Loose forward, Willem Alberts, and Fullback, Louis Ludik, who’s contractual issues are not new and surely today’s outcome could have been said a month ago and planned accordingly.

Cheetahs coach Naka Drotské has made a few shock selections for Friday’s Super14 opener against the Bulls. Drotske’s 22-man squad includes seven Super14 rookies and the new blood may just be what the Cheetahs need to start the competition on a winning note.

The Stormers, albeit a very “Dirt Tracker” rendition of them, takes on Boland at the new Cape Town Stadium today and a crowd in excess of 40000 is expected. Our man on the spot, Isigidi will be in the Press Box giving us the low down as things unfold. Not only is this a warm-up match for the Sormers in preparation for the Super 14 but this is also a test in terms of the new stadium’s readyness for rugby. This is the match thread for discussion of the game.  This match is also broadcast on Tv on SuperSport 1.

The Sharks problems keep getting worse even though Ruan Pienaar’s return for the start of the Super 14 is now possible, the other injuries makes for bad reading as the backline depth is now being severely tested.

The other problems still up in the air is the Ludick and Alberts issue, there still is no finallity into whether they may play for the Sharks or not .
