DURING last year’s Currie Cup, Sharks veteran Stefan Terblanche took over the leadership reins from the injured Johann Muller and led a largely new-look team to 12 wins out of 12 as captain and a top-of-the-table finish in the pool stages.

Compliments to the Daily News for the article.

Bath flyhalf Butch James. An apparent oversight by South African Rugby Union officials may well cost Butch James his chance of pressing for a place in next year’s Springbok World Cup squad. James has been named at inside centre in the South African team to play Wales in a one-off Test in Cardiff on Saturday. However, SARU and James’s club, Bath, are now in a stand-off over the World Cup-winning Bok’s availability – the sticking point being whether this match falls inside or outside the International Rugby Board’s window for June Test matches.

The Sharks rugby union have issued a press release to confirm the signing of Lionel Mapoe.

Lionel Mapoe is a Sharks player – it’s done and dusted and the player has signed a 2.5 year contract. That’s according to the KZN Union, anyway.

According to the official press release that came out a few minutes ago, Mapoe terminated his contract with the Cheetahs way back on 9 March as a result of a contractual dispute. He has thus been a free agent since then and has every right to enter into an agreement with the Sharks, for whom he will play in the Currie Cup.

The Sharks will feel they gave their all but apart from guts, determination and effort, lacked the back line fire power to pull this one through as had been the case for much of the season.

John Plumtree afterwards admitted as much, as he spoke of the Bulls slowly squeezing the breath out of the Sharks and his pride of a Sharks team that showed so much spirit and guts.

The Sharks show only 1 enforced change, with consitency in selection again shown this week. An ankle injury to Sharks centre Riaan Swanepoel has necessitated the one and only change to the team’s starting XV for Saturday’s Super 14 rugby match against the Blues at the Absa Stadium in Durban.

The Sharks scraped home against a Lions team showing  more hunger and determination then they did in their other games prior to this weekend, A major concern was the way the sharks went well ahead and then went to sleep, not once but twice as the 2nd sleeping session nearly cost them the match.

The stadium was alive and well Saturday with thousands of Sharks supporters streaming into Coca Cola park.

News from the sharks is that a full strength team for saturday is possible bar 4 players that that are still on the injury list.

The Players being Keegan Daniel, Adriaan Jacobs Louis Ludick  and Ryan kankowski, Good news is that Johann Muller will return with other news being that Lambie will be available for selection even though he was named in the Springbok Under 20 squad.

As for players like Murray and Mvovo who played Vodacom cup last week, one waits to see if they played well enough to return to the Super 14 squad. Continue reading

Durban – Sharks prop Jannie du Plessis will appear before a SANZAR judicial officer in Bloemfontein on Thursday after being cited for dangerous play following Saturday’s Super 14 match against the Reds in Durban.Du Plessis was cited for allegedly striking Reds hooker Sean Hardman with the head and also for entering a ruck in a dangerous manner.

Du Plessis’s hearing will take place at the offices of the Free State Rugby Union at 10:00.

The Sharks have managed to resolve England flyhalf Andy Goode’s work permit issues and the veteran No.10 will start in the Super 14 Round Eight match against the Reds in Durban on Saturday. Continue reading

The sharks seemed to have resolved their Flyhalf problems for now, even though many feel Goode is not the answer for the sharks at 10, the fact is it keeps the same combinations that have started showing success and also keeps a player like Ruan at Scrumhalf where he too has been very good.

The Sharks will be happy to be back home in Durban and the Absa Stadium, as 5 weeks away from home must very hard on the players for so many different reasons, One can only hope that playing this weekend after their long flight does not take it’s toll.

Also one is not sure what injuries there are, that being besides the  injury to Adriaan Jacobs and Johann Muller that is already known, On the plus side is being back at home their is far more players to choose from as back-up is at hand.

It does seem that the Sharks have turned to corner and one expects  a good performance from them this comming weekend against the Queensland Reds who themselves are on a upward curve. Continue reading

The Sharks have made very few changes to the side which beat the Highlanders at the House of Pain last weekend, they show 2 forced changes due to injuries to Lock Johann Muller and Flanker Keegan Daniel. Flanker Botes comes into the starting lineup in place of Daniel whilst lock Hargreaves comes in for Muller. Continue reading

The Sharks will probably have to do without the services of Johann Muller for their final tour match against the wellington Hurricanes.Although it has not been confirmed if he would be fit to play or not, One cannot seem him playing with what seems to be a broken finger.

Here is a picture of Johann Muller’s hand sporting a broken finger for his troubles and  having had to spend the night in Hospital, less than ideal!Just boarded flight to Wellington, last week! http://yfrog.com/iyjzsj 2:24 PM Mar 20th via Tweetie ( thanks to John Smits snippets on Twitter). His place in the  starting line up will probably be taken by Alsitair Hargreaves with Wilhelm Steenkamp comming onto the bench.

Will keep you informed on any further news that may arise.
