Australia, England, France, New Zealand and Scotland.

He said it

“There was almost a few broken bones and a few bodies knocked out of the World Cup. I wasn’t great to be honest, I was just trying to knock people off the road.”
Ireland wing Tommy Bowe gives coach Declan Kidney – not to mention the physios – a few grey hairs when he and his teammates tackled the Skyline Luge through the trees of Queenstown.

I often hear the old cliché “we want to play heads up rugby”. What the hell, a meerkat does that, he sticks his head out to survey the threats of nature. Then he runs, away, not forward into the danger zone.

Most of us here also blogged somewhere during the 2007 World Cup. Just like this year, in fact every time a Springbok team is picked, we the real experts pick our team too. Yes and every “selector” has his own favourites. In 2007 we disagreed with some of Jake White’s selections. Now let us see how many players back then were in YOUR team. Dont lie, some of us can remember your favorites, no cheating.

This is  relatively SHORT NOTICE but Ashley, our friend and fellow blogger has set up a Pool for us on testrugby.com for the Tri-Nations.

We have just more than a week to get registrations in and get raring to go, so please, all Rugby-Talkers, join up… and all Non-Rugby-Talkers, join up as a registered Rugby-Talker and then join up for this Competition as well.

This works diferently from SuperBru, here you have to select your players, do transfers of players and score according to your player performances. It still seems easy enough, nothing too fancy… and it did not take long for me to understand the Interface.

Come on, give it a go!

Go to www.testrugby.com and join!

It is with much less fear and a lot more anticipation that we line-up for the second match of the year. We’ve worked on a couple of things during the week but are acutely aware that we haven’t spend enough time integrating the forwards and backs (team runs). Continue reading

Being a coach is without a doubt one of the hardest but potentially also one of the most rewarding jobs. Looking at the pressure the S15 and national coaches has to endure I have often found myself wondering who on earth would want to be a coach. Sort of; “not for all the money in the world would I want to be a coach”.  Continue reading

If you read all the Rugby pages and Newspapers you can clearly see the urge to pick a Springbok World Cup squad. It is more than 142 days before the Tournament begins, 144 days before the Springboks play Wales in our first match and 170+ days before the Quarter Finals. But let it out, I know you want to! I constantly read about the teams everyone would pick, all the time.

When England football coach, the Italian Fabio Capello, said he required only a maximum 100-word vocabulary to speak with his players about tactics, he grabbed a few ears.

For auld lang syne, my dear,

For auld lang syne.

WP has a new sponsor in the freight company DHL. They have just displayed the 2011 Currie Cup jersey, and it looks like an amateur designed it.

In the Off-season, it might be wise for us to look in detail at every Rugby Position on the field and find or discuss the requirements for each.

Today we kick off with a lighter and fun-look look at the positions.

Come on, you’ve got to read this.. unless you’re a forward, in which case you should ask someone to read it for you!

There is a joke doing the rounds that when sports predictions cult figure Paul the Octopus died in a German aquarium this week his parting word was “Shaaaarks”.

We were asked to put up a  “Tjarks / WP spite thread!” , wel go for it.

The hand-off is not something that you really see in South African rugby. At least to the extent that you see it here in New Zealand. No Springbok rugby player –as an example of an exponent of the hand-off- spring to mind when you think of the hand-off.  Continue reading

I’ve just watched the semi finals of the common wealth seven’s tournament played between New Zealand/England and Australia/South Africa respectively.
