From the General and all at SuperBru HQ.

Welcome to a new season of rugby and a new and improved SuperBru. We’ve made a bunch of changes to make SuperBru even more fun!

All the Super Rugby players have been working hard in the gym and on the training field in the off season. Here at SuperBru HQ, our geeks have been designing and coding up a storm in our virtual gym, and we’re ready for you to start enjoying the fruits of our labour.

Here are a few of the new things ready and coming soon in 2011:

Revamped pools

We’ve made substantial changes to the setup, appearance and administration of pools. The pool is the core experience of SuperBru, and our pool captains are the champions of that experience: we want to give you greater ability to customise your pools, and to make it easier for you to manage and promote them.

Players who aren’t captains will notice an improved look inside pools, including a cool new pool banter wall embedded directly in every pool’s overview page.

Check out the pool centre to explore the pools already set up.

Autopools

The old public pools have been renamed Autopools – which we think explains more obviously what they are. These work in the same way they always did, but you won’t automatically be placed into them – you’ll explicitly make the choice to join an Autopool if you want to.

SuperPools

Captains looking to create an even better experience for their players can now choose to upgrade to a new product called a SuperPool. For the first time, we’re asking people to pay for a service on SuperBru, and a SuperPool is priced at a special introductory rate of R99 per pool, per tournament.

To see what you get in a SuperPool, read about upgrades.

Team fan pools

If you choose a favourite team when signing up, you’ll automatically be placed into a fan pool for your team so you can compete against like-minded supporters. This is optional, so if you don’t like it just head to my pools and resign from the team pool.

Team data

Introduced quietly towards the end of the Currie Cup, we now have sections for each team containing fixtures, performance and interesting insights like how accurate a team’s fans are and which of the other teams’ fans have the least faith in a team. This section will be built out early in the season.

Check out the new team section.

Fixtures

With the new Super Rugby format comes a big new focus on domestic derby games. Our fixtures page explains this in a nice visual way.

Prize drive

ICT resource and talent management firm Paracon is sponsoring an awesome big screen TV for our global winner.

In addition, we are running a prize drive inviting brands to offer up prizes for each week of the season. We already have well over R50,000 of offers, with more arriving every day. Early in February, we’ll ask you, the audience, to vote on which prizes you want to win, and the 21 with the most votes will end up as our weekly prizes.

Coming soon

In addition to the changes above, we’ll be revamping the player profiles and BruMail, amongst other features.

Let’s make this the biggest ever!

Last year 73,013 players participated in our Super 14 game – our biggest tournament ever. Let’s go even bigger than that this year!

Thanks for signing up, and we hope you have a brilliant season. We can’t wait.

From the General and all at SuperBru HQ.

    Hello,

I’m in…. and when I’m back at the Office I’ll work on and confirm the Prizes for our winner.

There will be a proviso though, only ACTIVE RUGBY-TALKERS will qualify for any of the prizes. I see that there are Members of the Pool who are no longer participants on R-T, so get busy participating….

There might be a very bloody pleasant surprise or 2 in stock when I announce the Prizes….

My choice would be – Breakfast at the Raddison in Cape Town with Percy Montgomery.
Then a trip to Newlands to see Stormers loose to the Bulls!!! 🙂

The GBS family is now in Hartenbos, near Mosselbay in the Southern Cape…

Spent a wonderful 3 days at Wilderness…. went to Victoria Bay, also went via the old Saasveld road and old George to Knysna pass as well as back roads to the one old “Big Tree”, a Outeniqua Yellow wood tree, over 800 years old. Went to lookout points like Map of Africa where we watched the Paragliders at work.

Took the scenic back routes via all the vlei areas and lakes around Wilderness back to Sedgefield…

We have eaten so much and at so many restaurants by now that I’m sure some pants might be a bit difficult to zip up and button closed when back at The Panne.

I went to fetch BonzaiGBS yesterday at George Airport and he spent his last “Free Day” with us…. today it was back to school for him and his last year at high school in George, where he is now a senior in Matric.

This morning we travelled from Wilderness down the coast and went to Herolds Bay and thereafter here to Hartenbos, where we are right ON the rim of the beach overlooking the ocean… and the wind has been pumping a bit, lots of white “sea horses” on the water.

Went walking on the beach earlier where we saw a very big jellyfish which had washed out on the beach, a few bluebottles about as well, nasty little buggers. Been a bit disappointed in the numbers of sea shells we have encountered after Port Elizabeth, where we picked up heaps of nice shells.

Tomorrow is rest and braai day, weather permitting, and on Wednesday we will go explore Mosselbay more… the Diaz Museum and the original old Postal Tree (Bartholomeo Diaz landed at Mosselbay in 1488, planted a cross here and is regarded as one of the first Western Discoverors of the Southern Coast of Africa).

I am also sure there is another sublime restaurant or 2 willing to stuff me more with some wonderful sea fare…. hehehe
