The two most interesting clashes both take place on Saturday 18 September, those between the Sharks and Cheetahs and the Blue Bulls against the Lions.

Springbok rugby fans can look forward to a mid-morning World Cup after the International Rugby Board released the kick-off times for next year’s World Cup in New Zealand.

The Boks will need to get used to playing night games, as most of their pool matches have been scheduled for a late (in South African terms) 8:30pm kick-off.

Mmmm, where have we heard these lies before?

According to SARU, the Absa Currie Cup remains the top priority for the South African Rugby Union and it will never be allowed to be “watered-down” by any other competition.

This is the message from the chairperson of SARU’s Executive Committee, Dr Jan Marais, who also rejected claims in some quarters that SARU was killing off the Currie Cup in a deal that only favoured Australia.

The Xerox Lions hosted the GWK Griquas at Coca-Cola Park, Johannesburg at 15:00 SA Time. This is the match thread for discussion of the game. The game was broadcast live on SuperSport 1 on DSTV in SA.

The Lions and Griquas both scored 4 tries each but the boot of Elton Jantjies proved to be the difference in the scores, Lions winning by 40 / 29.

Wallabies (14) 22 / All Blacks (6) 23 (Final Score)

The Wallabies hosted the All Blacks in Sydney, Australia at 12:00 SA Time in the last 2010 Tri-Nations match. This is the match thread for discussion of the game. The match was broadcast live on SuperSport 1 on DSTV in SA.

The Wallabies led for most of the match and at one stage after halftime led by 19 / 6.

The All Blacks came from behind and ground out a penalty and 2 converted tries, thereafter closing out the win in the dying minutes.

All Blacks win 23 / 22 and are undefeated in the Tri-Nations. They are also now 10 in a row against Australia.

The Barloworld Toyota Pumas hosted the Sharks at Puma Stadium, Witbank at 19:10 SA Time. This is the match thread for discussion of the game. The match was broadcast live on SuperSport 1 on DSTV in SA.

In a very fast paced 1st half, the Sharks secured their bonus point and in so doing secured the game. The second half delivered a heap of action but only 3 solitary points via a penalty by the Sharks.

The Final Score was Sharks 30 / 14.

I have just recieved the following, celebrating the 40-year aniversary of a memorable occasion:

On 18/09/2010 we are holding a commemoration of the match that took place on 18 Sept 1970, when Griquas beat the mighty Northern Transvaal 11-9 at Kimberley to win the Currie Cup.  We are expecting the likes of Mannetjies Roux, Piet Visagie and Piet Van Deventer to name but a few to come visit us here at Ammosal clubhouse.  This was the last time Griquas won the Currie Cup, and we have been bragging for years about the fact that nearly the whole team consisted of Ammosal players.
