This weekend we see the following 4 matches:

17 GWK Griquas v Platinum Leopards GWK Park, Kimberley 19:00
17 Pumas v Vodacom Western Province Puma Stadium, Witbank 19:10
18 Sharks v Vodacom Free State Cheetahs The Absa Stadium Durban 15:00
18 Vodacom Blue Bulls v Xerox Lions Loftus Versfeld, Pretoria 17:05

The two most interesting clashes both take place on Saturday 18 September, those between the Sharks and Cheetahs and the Blue Bulls against the Lions.

GWK Griquas vs Platinum Leopards:

After a bit of slump in form Griquas will certainly need a full 5-pointer here to keep their semi-final aspirations alive, so expect them to throw the whole hog at the Leopards.

It is very difficult to predict an outcome in favour of the lowest Currie Cup Premier Division side, specially at Kimberley, therefore, without much deliberation, I predict a win for Griquas and a bonus point for tries for them as well…. Griquas by 25.

Barloworld Toyota Pumas vs Vodacom Western Province:

The Pumas, slightly injury ravaged are playing at the impressive Mbombela Stadium in Nelspruit again, the same ground which saw them beat the Blue Bulls just a few weeks ago…. will it be continued success at that ground? I doubt it, because as much as we want the number 7 Currie Cup Premier side to be really in contention, they will only flutter a win here or there against the big guns.

Last week saw WP recover from their mid-season slump, despite the fact that the injection of some Springboks was not much of an improvement.

WP has named virtually an unchanged side, and this time the might fire a bit better.

I predict a handsome win for WP…… WP by 20.

Sharks vs Vodacom Free State Cheetahs:

Wonderful prospect of a game!

The Sharks stumbled 2 weeks ago against the Blue Bulls whilst the Cheetahs managed to beat those same Blue Bulls last weekend. The Sharks have a couple of stalwarts back though and are comfortable Log leaders. Will they be slightly undermotivated though, considering their Log position against their bogey side?

The Cheetahs have just come off a draining encounter over the weekend and for them a win will enhance their semi-final position on the Log. They will give everything and the Lionel Mapoe issue should have them focussed and hot enough under the coller.

Difficult to predict but I recon the Sharks should take this one…. Sharks by 10.

Vodacom Blue Bulls vs Xerox Lions:

Another epic trans-Jukskei battle and this time the Lions have their guns loaded.

The Blue Bulls are actually with their backs firmly against the wall and a loss here could see their defence of the Currie Cup Title floating away from reach. This alone will inspire them, like it did 2 weeks ago against the Sharks.

On the other hand it is about time to start fearing the “John Mitchell Lions”… yes I call them that because he has made a tremendous difference to the embattled Lions. He has inspired and directed them to defend, something totally absent in the first part of 2010 and they have subsequently unearthed 2 wonderful players in Elton Jantjies and Jaco Taute. They will be equally desperate for a win because that could place them firmly in reach of a semi-final spot.

I have great difficulty in predicting a winner here and would have to go with home-ground advantage… Bulls by 10. Ahh it feels so good to choose with your heart… hahaha

  • 13

    12@ bos_otter:

  • 15

Class of ’82, die beste jaar 🙂

  • 16

    @ Blue Bird:

Come on now BB, be fair – Marty is perfectly accurate in saying he is confident England will meet the ABS. They have a match set for Nov 06th 😉

  • 17

    15@ Tripples:

  • 18

    @ Tripples:

Weet nie van die beste nie, die oudste miskien 😉

  • 19

    VRY ST AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA T!

    Is that any better?

  • 20

    19@ Loosehead:
See, it revolves around the mobile site’s width, and if a word is too long it stretches the mobile width too far. In order to facilitate that we need to curb the word width to within acceptable bounds…

  • 21

    @ grootblousmile:
Hey, I played prop my whole life. That is way to technical for me. Just give me instructions…….and maybe a remote and I will be happy.

This is my week for being nice to the Bulls, where are the flukken Tjarks supporters today?

  • 22

    @ Loosehead:
You got it wrong bud, there is only one date that you are allowed to be nice to bulle, and it is the 29th of February, once every four years.

The rest of the time, it is hunting season.

  • 23

    21@ Loosehead:
Will be an interesting tussle between the Staat and the Guppies…

Think the Guppies will win and maybe that suits the Bulls best.

  • 24

@ grootblousmile:23 – gbs, So if Guppies win and Lions win then what will suit the Bulls? hehehehehe. 😆

    GOOOOOOOOOOO SHARKSSSSSSSSSSSS

    GOOOOOOOOOOO LIONSSSSSSSSSSSSS

    😀 😀 😀

  • 25

    24@ Puma:
Could well happen…. or the opposite could happen…

If the Guppies lose on Staurday and again against WP, they might end 3rd….

    Nothing is cast in stone.

  • 26

@ grootblousmile:25 – Gbs, You know I am just winding you up there.

Actually I think Cheetahs could win tomorrow. They have beaten Sharks plenty at the Tank. Their front row was really good against the Bulls and will be again tomorrow against us. Just hoping we can win.

I also think our game against the Lions will be very tough. Lions playing some good rugby at the moment and Sharks have to play at Altitude and that is not easy when you live and train at sea level. Also tough game coming against WP at Newlands. I know all those games could go either way. We could land up 3rd. Just hope we can make it top or even 2nd so to get a home semi at sea level.

  • 27

    26@ Puma:
I recon the Blue Bulls game took a lot out of the Cheetahs last weekend, so I think the Sharks will win.

Just hope for the sake of the Blue Bulls that the Cheetahs game last week did not take too much out of them as well.
