    @ Nama:

Eintlik indrukwekkend.

    @ Nama:
Hy moet by Loftus gaan kuier, die Super 14 beker staan seker nog daar iewers 😀

  • 484

    @ MacroPolo:

Wink

    @ Nama:

    Looking at the game stats.

The stommrers only conceded 3 penalties to the brumbies’ 13.

Stommers won 15 lineouts and lost 4.

    31 vs 32 kicks
    9 vs 11 clean breaks
    27! Vs 12 defenders beaten
    127 vs 92 passes
    3 vs 4 offloads
    80 vs 122 tackles
    12 vs 27 missed tackles
    3 vs 6 Turnovers won
    58% possession
    61% territory

Stats show the stormers should have taken better opportunities.

  • 498

I just dont understand how senatla only got the ball once or twice and why de allende was on the wing the whole time… Senatla is the best attacking weapon.

The highanders make effort to get the ball to naholo, the crusaders get the ball to nodolu as much as they can and the canes give savea as much ball as they can.

Hard luck Stormers and their Supporters here. But Brumbies were outstanding last night.

SA Rugby does not look great right now but think this is a blessing in disguise for our Bok chances in the world cup that Stormers never made it. Otherwise too much travel and no rest for some Bok players in their team had they had to travel now. This will give our Bok players some rest and Meyer more time with the players for the first time he has been Bok Coach. So not all lost think our Boks will have a much better chancenow with more rest and enough time this year to train together.

I know SA teams never done well in SR this year but feel excited for our Boks chances in the world cup. Think by us missing to travel now we will have a better chance with players not getting injured before then. Just wish they would scrap the Rugby Championship in world cup year. Now hoping no injuries during that tourney as we need our players injury free for world cup. Good luck to our Boks.

Now that all SA teams are out my support will go to the Canes to win Super Rugby and support our kiwi brother here Cane with his team and Plum that is part of the coaching team with Canes this year.

  • 500

Also congrats Brumbiesboy on your teams win last night. But think Canes will take it next week. They playing some terrific rugby this year and your team has another long travel back. But they done exceptionally well last night.

  • 501

Before I log off. Howzit Rye how you doing my good friend? I hope well. Do hope our Sharks can get a top class coach for next year.

Cheers and keep well Rye. Good to catch up with you here again.

Well, what a miserable weekend of rugby for South African supporters it has to be said. Can’t say it wasn’t expected though. I was looking forward to being proved wrong and being forced to take a long drive up the N7 to visit Nama to share a high priced bottle of MCC at my expense. But I felt reasonable comfortable not to visit the bottle store and pop 180lit into my thirsty truck on saturday AM before the game. With Duane available I gave us 50:50. Without our captain I gave us a narrow loss. When Schalk pulled out I looked around for something else to do at 5 to avoid depression. That’s not good because its a poor reflection on our rugby in this country, our depth and most of all the way we manage our rugby currently. As it turned out, I couldn’t resist and watched the game anyway. I was very bad dinner company after that. The girls weren’t impressed.
Why, I asked with tears in my bloodshot eyes? I feel that we have the talent and player depth. They are just poorly managed. How often does one witness a promising move being spoilt by an unprovoked knock-on, fumble, spill, forward pass or similar. Yes, that’s rugby. Fine. But we simply do this more often than our peers. Way more often. If I were to guess, its a combination of concentration and confidence borne from consistency of the negative kind.
Take the Stormers for example. They have a scrum the envy of every other S15 franchise. But they battle to score tries(finish) and invariably win by small margins and/or lose. And they’ve been the best of a lousy lot. The Bulls had the best lineout in the world not so long ago. Today they’re useless in that department.
So where to from here then? Well, England and the World Cup to be exact.
And Meyer says he’s not worried. Hullo. Not worried?
Well I am. I don’t give us a snowball’s chance of bringing home Bill. Squat. Nil. Nada. Niks. Vlokall.
I’ve played, watched, studied rugby long enough to know that we are not on the same level as the Kiwi’s and currently lagging the Aussies. Lets not get to the N Hemisphere lot either because there’s no need. I also take account of the European conditions and a WC/Test environment as opposed to the S15 competition. They are obviouslynot the same. I’ve walked the turf on Twickenham. And its nowhere near that of Newlands. But the ball’s the same and the same basic requirements remain. Like catching and passing a ball.
I invested in a trip to New Zealand to watch the 2011 RWC and harboured more hope than I have now. Way more. Hell its sad to write this. Maybe I should stop.
Sorry we couldn’t have that drink together Nama.

For the exercise, lets take a look at Meyer’s probable run-on 15 for a possible quarter final on 17/18 Oct.
15 Willie Not in the same form as we’ve come to expect but could rise to the occasion. Lets give him the benefit of the doubt. Would he make the AB team? No.
14 Cornel Hendricks Was he playing this year? Would he make the AB team? No.
13 Jean De Villiers He’s at 13 because Damian is a better 12 than Jean. But Jean will be there as captain. How fit and ready he is, is open to debate. Would he make the AB team? No.
12 De Allende his spot is undisputed and he’s in excellent form. Would he make the AB team? Doubt it.
11 Habs who knows how ready he is. He’ll play on pedigree. Would he make the AB team? No
10 Pollard not the best S15 with a miserable Bulls outfit but has the class to rise to the occasion. Would he make the AB team? No.
9 Pienaar He’s there because Meyer will pick him. I no fan. Would he make the AB team? Definitely not.
8 Duane He picks himself. Would he make the AB team? Maybe.
7 Flo He has to play and Meyer will pick him(he also picks himself). Would he make the AB team? Maybe.
6 Schalk is back to being the best. Also picks himself. Would he make the AB team? Maybe.
5 Matfield this is where it gets tricky. Say no more. Would he make the AB team? No chance.
4 Etsabeth not his best(yet) but who else then? Would he make the AB team? I think not.
3 Jannie I think Jannie is past it myself but Meyer will pick him. Would he make the AB team? Definitely not.
2 Bissie I have no problem with Meyer picking him(or Strauss). Would he make the AB team? Probably.
1 Beast Who knows? Maybe Beast can raise his game to previous heights? Would he make the AB team? No
So its left to our loose trio and our hooker to bring competitiveness to the No 1 team in the world. Four out of fifteen.
That, dear friends, is our so-called World Cup winning run-on team.
    Confident?
Or am I being too harsh?
    Help me here.

  • 504

    502 @ Tassies:
Hey Tassies, I think Meyer saying he is not worried, is just showmanship to the media, the would be severely detrimental to admit that he is worried to the players confidence.

    503 @ Tassies:
We assume our players are extremely talented the whole time, and that is probably where the lack of skills development comes from (because the big oke runs over everyone and the small nippy player runs around everyone) compared to NZ where team play is all important, those guys are improving everytime and they could at this moment push 2 teams on the field that could beat anyone.

Dont worry Tassies, we have been pretty crap (or average?) over the last 19 years with 3 moments of excellence in the Rugby Championship/Tri Nations… We are bound to win something again in 5 or 6 years 😆

  • 505

The last time we won the world cup we had 2 teams in the superrugby finals… this year we are not even close to have one team there…. it must mean something………

As far as the WC is concerned NZ is first tier and SA right at the bottom of second tier…and the gap between first and second tier is huge and growing.

  • 506

    First Tier: New Zealand
Second Tier: Ireland, England, Australia, Wales, South Africa
    Third tier: France, Argentine
    4th tier: The rest.

  • 507

    @ Tassies:
I have to agree with a lot of what you say in both comments 502 & 503.

The big question is though, “how do we fix the problems?”

In asking this, I don’t mean an elasoplast fix for the RWC. I mean how do we change the fundamental way in which our country approaches playing Rugby?

IMHO it starts at Primary School and the quality of coaching and development.

I believe however, that there is no will from SARU to start addressing these issues. If there was, it would have started post the 1995 RWC win.

Then again, what do I really know?

  • 508

    @ Scrumdown:
Hey SD, I think we all can agree with that.

  • 509

My sincerest condolences go out to the Stormers & all their supporters; trust me I know the feeling.

I’ve only read bits & pieces of this thread and really appreciate the good wishes I’ve seen so far.

    BB out for now.
