Citing Commissioner Freek Burger cited Botha under Law 10.4 (h) for dangerously and recklessly entering a ruck without using his arms or grasping a player. Botha made contact with Stormers right wing Gio Aplon in the second minute of the match.
I for one clearly see his arm making contact with the player basicly simultaneously as the rest of his body or head. Also what about he Stormer player entering the ruck just a split second after Bakkies ? I don’t see much of a difference. Surely Bakkies entered from the side and was rightly penalised. A 4 week suspension, you decide…

Firstly, technically there are a lot of things wrong with this.
Enters from the side
His body angle is down and he basically dives into, and over the ruck
He is leading with his head
The question on the length of the suspension is directly related to Bakkies’ ‘record’ as stated in the verdict which has bearing on the issue from last year, and a similar incident.
Okay I just read the first couple of comments…
Hell guys, how is Bakkies not coming in from the side if;
a) Aplon is on the Stormers side of the ruck
b) There are at least two bulls bodies between Aplon and the ‘gate’ on the Bulls side
c) He is diving down onto Aplon
???
You do not clean players out by diving down onto them.
He was never trying to legally clean the ruck from a player that was on his side of the ruck in the first place.

Everything about the new law interpretations was about players entering the rucks correctly too, i.e. not diving in.
Again, technically there is so much wrong with this.
And the point of this was not only quicker ruck ball, but also cutting down on injuries.
Diving down on a player in a ruck is inexcusable and should be punished more.
look i know the guys from both sides take different views ,
my thought is why do what he did??

263 – Sharky, Bakkies even if he never got 4 weeks. Should not have started this game for Bulls against Saders. He is not match fit and probably might have been on the bench.
Finally got to see that youtube clip. Jeepers it did not look good. Have to admit. How Aplon came out of that without a serious injury must have been cause of wearing his cap. Well if they protect you against that, not sure they help against neck injury. Looked at it a few times, had Aplon’s head been down he probably would not have connected with him. Still though Bakkies was at fault their coming in from the side with the head.
Now Bulls must forget about this and move on. Concentrate on the semi this Saturday. Think Flip should have started anyway or Danie.
