A four week suspension is what Bakkies received after his hearing as we all read on a previous thread. Is it fair ? Look at the footage and read further on the rule that was applicable…

Citing Commissioner Freek Burger cited Botha under Law 10.4 (h) for dangerously and recklessly entering a ruck without using his arms or grasping a player. Botha made contact with Stormers right wing Gio Aplon in the second minute of the match.

I for one clearly see his arm making contact with the player basicly simultaneously as the rest of his body or head. Also what about he Stormer player entering the ruck just a split second after Bakkies ? I don’t see much of a difference. Surely Bakkies entered from the side and was rightly penalised. A 4 week suspension, you decide…

I’ve added another clean by Bakkies to draw comparisons for those who would be interested.

Tell me the difference between what Bakkies did, and the Stormer player just after him ?

  • 3

Surely no flying arm Saint hey, how else was he suppose to put his arm in contact with Aplon?

    Blouste

Blaauw led with his hands, look his hands on the ruck, then his head and shoulders, also, Blaauw never stepped back like Botha and took a run-up, charging in feet off the ground. Yes, Blaauw was also from the side, but the charge in question?

  • 5

Look at Bakkies Blouste, he approached the ruck, stopped, stepped back, and charged, arms flailing, not leading? Come on, Blouste, I’m not going on because he is a Bull, but honestly.

  • 6

In fact I will go so far as to say that Bakkies made more of an effort to get his arm around his opponent than did the Stormer player…

Dont get me wrong, its not about the Stormers player, more about consistency and implementation of the above mentioned rule…

Botha is one of SA’s tier 1 players, he was captain on the night, he was leading a bunch of impressionable youngsters, this isn’t the way he should behave.

If he wants to follow old JP ‘shit for brains’ Nel overseas, then so be it. The Bulls managed quite well without him, and Flip van der Merwe, will probably be better than him on the long run.

But we cannot have senior players doing this, and then expect everyone to pity them, because they are allegedly targeted. This is an dangerous offense, end of story.

Blaauw’s arms never made any significant if any contact first.

The Stormers player’s hands was in front of him the whole time, he attempted to ruck, he made three attempts to gop for the ball, Bakkies never wanted to ruck, he charged in, and the lay still, made no further attempt for the ball.

You’re not serious are you? LOOK AT HIS HANDS!

    Saint

Also I dont share your sentiment on him going back and then going to the ruck again…He merely hang back and then when he saw some cleaning might be necessary went in, taking Apln away, doing his job imo…

@ 10 Yes I’m serious, look at the slow replay… Does’nt look like any attempt to bind, where Bakkies binded to his own player aswell as Aplon.

  • 14

    Saint

Blouste, obviously you feel he has been hard done by, but you can clearly see himreadying himself, and then charging in on a player that didn’t even have his hands on the ball, no attempt to stay on his feet to ruck, nothing. Had he rucked, one might’ve said he was trying to win the ball, but he didn’t he dived in, and lay there.

Don’t view this as a Bulls fan, be objective.

  • 16

  • 18

  • 19

I am looking at the replay, and I can’t see what you are seeing, I have called in 4 Bluebull supporters into my office, to also have a look, one said, that Aplon is a moffie, and he can’t take the punch, while the other 3 agreed with my summation, ie Botha’s run-up, his flailing arm, leading head, his feet off the ground, his not-attempting-to-ruck, but merely diving.

  • 20

im with you on this one blouste….. This is a freakin joke……. JUSTICE 4 BAKKIES…. JUSTICE 4 BULLS…… Bulls will use this unfair citing comm. That think they watching soccer as motivation and whip the crusaders, stormers, tahs or even the all blacks….. JUSTICE 4 BAKKIES!!!!!!!

  • 21

  • 22

    Saint…

Do you agree that the ball pops out when Bakkies cleans Aplon out, in example playing towards the ball…

  • 23

    #22

The Ball pops out from under Jaco Engels, who was at the other side of the scrimmage….

  • 24

how about the stormers having the bulls forwards in a throught lock…but nothing…. All i can say is joke

  • 25

Durban Bul…chill mate, you gonna give yourself an ulcer.

  • 26

come now saint………..????? I cant believe what i am reading here….

  • 27

lol saint im calm just crap like this p me off so bad!!! Cant handle this unfair citings anymore… But all good here 🙂

  • 28

    Saint

Engels right next to Bakkies, infact Bakkies grabbed onto Engels with his left hand, go check… mostly blinded by his body but you will see 😉

  • 29

Botha came from behind much more than Blaauw in any case….

Listen man, you are way off…this isn’t a Bulls/Stormers thing, it’s an independent citing commissioner.

    bdb

Yes, a forward is taught to clean out, however, cleaning out necessitates a player to stay on his feet, otherwise it’s diving on/or over the ball, which is a penalty in any rulebook. Clearing out needs someone on their feet, what Bakkies did is basically killing the ball, if the ref didn’t blow, that ball wouldn’t have come out.
