Citing Commissioner Freek Burger cited Botha under Law 10.4 (h) for dangerously and recklessly entering a ruck without using his arms or grasping a player. Botha made contact with Stormers right wing Gio Aplon in the second minute of the match.
I for one clearly see his arm making contact with the player basicly simultaneously as the rest of his body or head. Also what about he Stormer player entering the ruck just a split second after Bakkies ? I don’t see much of a difference. Surely Bakkies entered from the side and was rightly penalised. A 4 week suspension, you decide…

En al hierdie tyd het almal gedink Ludeke wou die A-span laat rus, maar intussen het hy gesien wat het laasjaar gebeur met die laaste ligawedstryd, toe die Bulle 2 spelers verloor het, nie weens die harde kontakspel genaamd rugby nie, maar weens die ‘citing’ gevaar !
Dink net daaraan, as Bulle met hul A-span gespeel het, het die Stormers die hele A-span ge-cite, en moes ons teen die sterker Saders span met ‘n B-span speel.

WITH Englishman Andy Goode set to leave the Sharks for Guinness Premiership-relegated Worcester Warriors, the “who should play flyhalf ?” debate is sure to rage on in the build-up to the Currie Cup.
In the aftermath of their failed Super 14 campaign, this is perhaps the most important question that will need to be answered in the coming weeks.
There is no doubt that the Sharks’ season was severely disrupted by the injury to Juan Hernandez, the retirement of Steve Meyer and the late signing of Goode.
Goode did his best to settle down in the flyhalf berth, but his game was never going to be ideally suited to that of the fastpaced Super 14, nor was it capable of getting the best out of the limited Sharks backline.
What should be recognised, though, is that despite the Sharks’ propensity to sign foreign flyhalves, the intention after the departure of Hernandez was to invest in a local for a good couple of years.
This was the hope with Meyer before his sudden about-turn and Goode’s recruitment was more out of necessity to ensure Pienaar could get back to his best in his preferred position at scrumhalf.
From that perspective it has been a success as Pienaar has been one of the standout performers this season and his renewed confidence has seen him perform with aplomb when shifting to the flyhalf berth.
The 26-year-old got a fair amount of game-time at scrumhalf and flyhalf, and by finding his form of old he has placed pressure on both Springbok incumbents Fourie du Preez and Morne Steyn.
But Pienaar’s absence for much of the Currie Cup, coupled with Goode’s departure, has left the Sharks with a No 10 jersey up for grabs.
Sharks CEO Brian van Zyl has said they would prefer to back their home-grown youngsters and hopefully this means no more overseas signings are on the cards.
The young man who could fill this void is the success story of the season, Patrick Lambie, who has enjoyed a superb start to his Sharks’ career, albeit at fullback.
As he is just 19 years old, it could be argued that he should be allowed to settle at professional level in one position, with his incredibly safe hands under the high ball and courageous defence certainly fitting of a fullback.
However, there is no doubt he also has the credentials to be a superb flyhalf – a solid kicking game, an eye for the gap, a good understanding of time and space, great hands and a solid pass.
“Certainly he has attributes that indicate he could do the job,” Sharks coach John Plumtree agreed. “However, it’s just about nurturing him into professional rugby at this level. Maybe we’ll see him get an opportunity there in the Currie Cup.”
The one big question mark hangs over the youngster’s decision-making ability in this crucial position, because if he has been guilty of one thing this season it is the occasional poor option taking, which has primarily seen him take the ball into contact when it isn’t always on.
The Michaelhouse old boy played both flyhalf and fullback at school, while schoolmate Guy Cronje established himself at pivot during his senior years.
Cronje, who will turn 21 in July, is also a home-grown contender for the flyhalf berth, having debuted there during last year’s Currie Cup, but he has battled with a long-term injury this year. Stalwart Monty Dumond, who has featured at flyhalf for the Sharks XV this season, is another option.
Meanwhile, fullback Louis Ludik is back in action after an injury-plagued season, featuring in a club rugby game at the weekend, and this will add to the debate about where he should be accommodated.
Some interesting decisions will need to be made in the leadup to the Sharks’ July 10 Currie Cup opener, but the benefits of backing talented local youngsters could reap rewards worth their weight in gold.

The suspension is fair.
If one considers mitigating and aggravating circumstances then they probably added a 2 weeks because he is forever on the wrong side of the law.
Bakkies must learn to take ownership for his actions.

Maybe Kaplan did not see, I dont know. Or maybe he did not have the balls to go there.
Im tired of Bakkies’ indiscretions. He is a good guy but his behaviour on the park very often very provocative; so if you play that then this is what will happen more often than not.
He must come in line, that’s final.
