Not only has Bryan Habana signed to play for WP, but it gets more interesting… there is a Tail to this story.
I received the following SMS Text message last night, from my cousin, a well known South African actress, married to SA’s leading Musical Producer and Director and TV series Producer (PS! what was written about the 2 of them in Sondag yesterday is untrue).
“Hey! I’m over the moon! Spent the last 2 hours talking to Bryan Habana!! Ek’s SUPER star struck!”
Knowing that she knows my deep interest in all things rugby, I could not resist phoning her, so I did just that.
It turns out that they were having dinner at a restaurant near Zoo Lake yesterday, and who else was there… Bryan and Jenine.
They all got talking and low and behold, Bryan Habana announced that he had not only signed with WP but also he had formally requested Jenine’s hand in marriage… and she accepted.
Bryan and Jenine will be moving to Cape Town in November.
I guess that congratulations are in order!
We wish Bryan and Jenine well with their future together and we also wish Habanananana a prosperous rugby adventure at WP.
Bryan, may you score many tries for WP, except against the Bulls, and may you continue to wear No 11 for the Bokke with much success.
… and so the cycle of life continues…

122@bdb – Habana is going to WP for sure…….. he said so himself, to my cousin.. and my cousin is a trustworthy source… In addition one of our regular bloggers had an SMS from Jenine (Habana’s girlfriend) directly… that’s all the confirmation WE need to make the call that it’s a fait accompli !

Hier is my ‘verklaring’ oor die Habana saak:
Sterkte dan vir Habana, dankie vir die vele vreugdes in die blou trui. Sou jou baie graag nog daar wou gesien het, maar dit is ‘n professionele era, spelers kan sulke besluite neem.
Van die Bulle se topspelers wat tans in die begin 15 bokspan is (slotte, Spies, skakelpaar, Habs), meen ek sal ons Habana die minste mis. Hy is ‘n wereldklas speler, en aanwins vir enige span, maar dit is bloot omdat sy posisie op die veld (vleuel), nie meer so kardinaal is as al die ander posisies nie, dat sy afwesigheid nie so gevoelig sal wees as die ander posisies nie.
Die Bulle se sukses is gedra deur hul slotte (saam met Danie as supersub), hul skakelpaar, en hul goeie kombinasie van losvoorspelers, wat almal behou is vir die volgende seisoen.
Ek vermoed dat die BBRU dus nie so hard geveg het om Habana te behou nie, en bv vir hom nie meer aangebied het as vir die ander topspelers nie.
Verder, soos ek voorheen genoem het, in terme van posisies se diepte, was dit baie belangriker vir die Bulle om iemand soos WO te behou, as bv. Habana. Daar is heelwat BB spelers wat op vleuel goeie diens kan lewer (natuurlik nie nou al op die hoë vlak as Habana nie), maar wel die basiese dinge kan regdoen. Op senters sou die Bulle egter ‘n baie groter leemte gehad het, as WO ook weg was.
Die volgende Bulle agterlyn is goed genoeg om te kompeteer volgende jaar in die S14

@Pietman – Sjoe as jy nou n klomp kwaad Bulle wil sien moet jy daar op die Bulle se tuiste gaan blog. Wens eintlik Habs het kans om dit te lees en dan eers te besluit. Baie ouens het n goeie punt maar party is bietjie oorboord.
Ek vra maar net dit wat doen jy nou as jou loopbaan skielik tot n end kom, weens vorm of uitrede. Het hy nie dalk hom nou van wonderlike werksgeleenthede daar in Pretoria vervreem nie. Baie brue word nou afgebreek, en jou lewe na Rugby is nog maklik 30-40 jaar. Moerse kans wat hy vat met baie min om te gain.

Negotiations with Habana still underway
WP Rugby today confirmed that negotiations to secure the services of 27 year old Springbok winger Bryan Habana are on-going.
Bryan, who started his provincial rugby career with the Golden Lions in 2004, has earned 53 Test caps for South Africa and holds the Springbok record for most tries in tests as a wing.
A couple of small details are still to be sorted out and an official announcement will be made on completion of the deal.

Hiho all, was wondering what the Bull supporters think of Habana leaveing as he was a bit of a Bull icon and if he will be missed as a player.

@Treehugger – Ah well, he actually did play all his junior rugby with the Lions, but my feelings are, he gave us some awesome games and helped the team win the S14 twice, think he did his full share, and good luck to him…….no hard feelings on my part.
Will definately miss him in the team, but just opens up for young talent
@Tripples – but the moment he dons the streeptrui he is the enemy. sad but true, and i can almost guarantee you he will be bbooed at Loftus. there is some Bull supporters who does not take this well. i feel he gave his est for us but whoever plays against him from the Bulls will have my support when they play against him. That is obvious. He becomes enemy.
