Springboks (16) 22 / All Blacks (14) 29 (Final Score)

The Springboks hosted the All Blacks in their last Tri-Nations match against one another of 2010 at FNB Stadium, Johannesburg at 17:05 SA Time. This was the match thread for discussion of the game. The match was bradcast live on SuperSport 1, SuperSport HD and M-Net.

The All Blacks won, scoring 2 quick tries in the last 3 minutes, to break the Bokke hearts and those of their supporters.

It must be said though that the Springboks showed moments of brilliance during the game though, with the Hougaard experiment working well and Juan Smith and Flip van der Merwe doing their part brilliantly too.

Jean de Vlliers shone at inside centre and Morne Steyn’s boot was as effective as ever.

It’s the day before the momentous Test, the best in the World playing one another, in the Tri-Nations.

What more could you want, 90 000 spectators at the Southern Hemisphere’s best Stadium, the All Blacks standing ont the verge of the Tri-Nations crown for 2010 and Springbok captain John Smit due to run out for his 100th Test cap?

Will the Bokke be better at home or will the All Blacks continue their dominant form of 2010?

The more I think about it, the more I believe that it is one of Springbok rugby’s greatest injustices that a man and player of this calibre had to wait so long to reach such an important milestone in his rugby career. Continue reading

Reading on some web sites and in the press, there seems to be some confusion regarding the possible move of the Test on 21 August 2010 between the Springboks and All Blacks, from Coca-Cola Park (Ellis Park) to the National Stadium (Soccer City).

Some pundits believe the move is a forced move under presssure from SARU, forcing the GLRU (Gauteng Lions Rugby Union) to move the game in an attempt to recover the outstanding British and Irish Lions debt owing by the GLRU to SARU, some believe it is a new and exciting initiative by the GLRU to revive rugby in their region and a possible pre-curser to moving the home base of the GLRU permanently to the National Stadium.

Whatever the case, here is an insight from someone high up in the Club Scene in the GLRU structures.

It has been eluded to by a lot of people in the last two years with their criticism of team selections and game plans amongst other things – but it is now time for Peter de Villiers to make his personal mark on the Springboks if he wishes to be remembered as the coach that led the most successful Springbok teams, or the coach that was just lucky enough to be there at the right time.
