There is widespread speculation of exactly who will follow up in SASOL’s place to be the main sponsor of the Springboks from 2011. Will it be ABSA or Castle?

If one reads Sport24 or Business Day, one gets the impression that ABSA will be the main sponsor, and that the deal just has to be finalised and made public. This would mean that the Bokke will play with the ABSA logo on their jerseys when in SA and with their International brand, Barclays Bank when away from home.

However, last night I saw an advert on M-Net, with Castle clearly indicating that they will be the Bokke sponsors in 2011. Surely Castle will not make itself guilty of misleading Advertising?

So, who will it be?

I say, goooooooooooooo Castle… hahaha!

Kyk, ek reken mos nou so…. wat word die meeste gebruik rondom ‘n rugbystadion op ‘n Saterdag… ABSA Kitsbanke of Castles…. hehehehe

  • 5

Ek dink die Castles gaan dalk loshande wen….. maar as jou geld op is, dan sit jy met ‘n probleem wat net ABSA kan oplos!

Wat van Black Label? Dan support die hele land die Bokke.

I believe the winner is ABSA

I can understand alcohol and tobacco companies’ sponsorships as the media where thay can legally advertise shrinks almost daily, but for financial institutions like ABSA to spend so much on sports sponsorships re-inforces my belief that banking in South Africa is nothing more than legalised theft.

Fees are exhorbitant and services kuk (for the most part) to say the least.

SA must be the only country in the world where the banks can get away with charging a client a fee for DEPOSITING CASH.

One of my pet hates I’m afraid.

You can always keep your money under your mattress

    @ rugbybal:

Do yourself a favour and investigate what bank charges are like in Europe and the UK. (Maybe you know already)

Financial institutions in this country charge exhorbitant fees.

Why do you think Barclays wanted a slice of ABSA? It’s a good cash cow.

I might know better than you think. I used to be a business analyst for ABSA. hehehe. You paid my salary 🙂

absa?….oh jinne…hulle gaan seker die manne soos volg vergoed….
“kyk hoe kyk hy vir my!!….kyk hoe kyk hy vir my!!!….hier is vir jou R50 vir jou maxi spaar.”

  • 19

bwahahaha ek dink nie ABSA sal so vrygewig wees nie 🙂

  • 20

@ rugbybal: lol , wel hulle was met “Noot vir noot”…wie weet, miskien gooi hulle vir Johan Stemmet ook in saam met die deal 🙂

A Bank is ONLY as good as it’s local bank Manager…

… oh, and not owing the Bank a cent helps tremendously…

  • 22

I agree GBS. As an ABSA client I only had the best service, maybe cause they knew me.

I’m not against any particular bank per say, just the general lack of morals within the financial services market(s).

The world financial crisis was basically caused by greedy bankers, and now a couple of years down the track they expect the world’s population to forget their greed, swallow their BS and give them more of our (now significantly reduced) money to “invest”.

Having said that, of course they are entitled to make money, why else be in business?

Personally, I’d prefer uncle Charles to (again) sponsor the Boks.

Hey friends been a while since I’ve made an appearance, I’d just like to say that SARU is deluded, I believe ABSA offered R65mil, I am unaware of what SAB offered, but what astounds me is that SARU declined SASOL’s offer to extend their contract, the previous SASOL sponsorship was at R150mil, for the extension, SASOL offered to give EVEN MORE! Yet SARU declined?!? Me thinks the Bokke will have to start washing their jersies after practice 🙂

  • 28

    @ Partizan:
I think the 150 mil was the total, for the total years the Boks were sponsered

  • 29

Yeah it was a 5year contract for the Bokke, Bok 7’s, u21, women’s team etc. Spoke to my old man about this and he said he discussed it with my bro-in-law who works at ABSA, he said the R65mil was just the announced sponsorship, its worth a blikskottel load more but ABSA’s policy is not to state the figure.
