The Springboks hosted the All Blacks in their last Tri-Nations match against one another of 2010 at FNB Stadium, Johannesburg at 17:05 SA Time. This was the match thread for discussion of the game. The match was bradcast live on SuperSport 1, SuperSport HD and M-Net.
The All Blacks won, scoring 2 quick tries in the last 3 minutes, to break the Bokke hearts and those of their supporters.
It must be said though that the Springboks showed moments of brilliance during the game though, with the Hougaard experiment working well and Juan Smith and Flip van der Merwe doing their part brilliantly too.
Jean de Vlliers shone at inside centre and Morne Steyn’s boot was as effective as ever.
… but well done Blacks, you came, you saw, you absorbed a shipload of pressure … and you won!

Another word. Get RID of these useless coaches it IS NOT THE PLAYERS it is the useless coaches. No-one must tell me not so. Get rid of em coaches. Useless all 3 of em. Not the players. Why the heck bring on changes when not needed??????????????? Go home Dick you are useless and Gold also PdV. Our rugby will go down very fast with these bunch of coaches. Jeepers we have talent coming from our ears but NO they will never ever get seleted. But really if they are coached by this bunch of useless bunch rather wait until after 20ll. Like the youngsters came in after 2003. Don’t blame the players the coaches are useless. We need the likes of John and Victor and the youngsters bur WE need top class coaches for 20ll.
Okay feel disappointed with the Boks but HOPE my sharks win.

Woodcock annoyed me on that one. He ambled across the line & then seemed to remember he’s supposed to get closer to the posts. Cost the ABs 2 pts there, damn, he should have more game awareness than that 🙁

AS an ABs supporter I’m pleased they won the match, but …. McCaw’s try? I thought when the ball was touched down it was simultaneous with his foot touching outside the sideline. To my mind that’s not a try, am I wrong? What do the laws say on this? For the build up for the last try the ref missed an obvious forward pass. That’s tough luck for the Boks but the ABs are familiar with those missed calls (RWC 2007), right?
Who missed the tackle on Nonu for the final try, anyone know that?
Final analysis I thought that despite the altitude ABs proved to be fitter than the Boks. It provided the extra edge IMO. As has been observed on this site many times some of the Boks are either not fit enough or are too tired. A dilemma for the coaching staff. I was pleased to see Juan Smith back, he could play on my team any day. I rate him higher than Spies or Burger. He & Brussow would be a good combination.

Jim T. Mealamu was pretty anonymous – seen game 2x and am still sober and I stand by my opinion! – couple of breaks not much else ,Hore and De Lawnmunch offer more in different ways, nothing to get excited about – yawn.
Smit not great but neither is Mealamu, If Smit hadnt slipped a tackle Dagg wouldnt have scored, If Mealamu had done his job neither would Burger.
What I can guarantee is that in 10 years no one will remember our Kev !
(he needs a high profile criminal offence to really make his mark !)
Fantastic game of rugby, neither side deserved to lose IMO..
McCaw try could have gone either way and dont think any would have complained… Juan Smith is immense, to come back after a layoff and perform the way he did..

I felt angry when Juan and Hougaard were taken off. Just had a feeling as soon as Juan was taken off we could lose it. Was so angry at the coaches but now read he was taken off cause of a niggle.
Said congrats to the kiwi supporters on the ABs win on keo. Hope you read that there.
Well if feels like revenge for last year……hehehe. We white washed your team there and your ABs came back straight at us this year and done the same to us. What a rivalry this is. Hope we never ever go up north Boks need to play their rugby here in the SH.

Puma, I have my doubts about that try too. Does anyone know what the law book says when ball & foot touch down at the same time? I guess sometimes you get the breaks & sometimes you don’t, that’s rugby.

Mielie Pap Mike, I will have to look at the game again tonight when I’m calmer & cooler. But my recollection is that Mealamu carried the ball more frequently than most on the Boks team. I rate him because his work rate is so high on defense & offense. Plus his handling in the open is 1st class. During this year’s 3N he was instrumental in several tries, not bad for a hooker & a 31 year old. You may not think any one will remember our Kev but as he rolls towards a 100 caps, I think he’s at around 77 now, he will be remembered. Needs no criminal offence, he has made his mark already. 🙂
@ JimT:465 – Jim I think it is no try mate. Also there was a forward pass that got missed. But we get some of those 50/50 calls too. That how it goes. Just have to accept it.

I did check it out on 2nd viewing. Mealamu carried the ball 16 or 17 times in the match. This plus his defensive work. Case closed on the Mealamu debate. 🙂
PS Mealamu now has 78 caps & counting.
@ JimT: have always been a Mealamu fan, a no nonsense hooker who always makes ground… he has been our player of the tournament alongside the Irish refs oops I mean Ritchie.. 😉
