Pieter De Villiers has been found not guilty of bringing rugby into disrepute.

A claim of alleged misconduct against Springbok coach Peter de Villiers has been dismissed by SANZAR Judicial Officer Jannie Lubbe SC.

The misconduct charge related to comments made by the Springbok coach on Australia’s Fox Sports Rugby Club programme on July 21, 2010.

Lubbe heard the case on Friday, August 6, 2010 and after considering the evidence decided that, on balance of probability, De Villiers had not breached the SANZAR code of conduct.

Lubbe stated that during his interview with Fox Sports, De Villiers never mentioned or referred to referees or match fixing.

As the judicial process has concluded, SANZAR will not be making any further comment on the issue.

Didn’t really expect anything to happen. The relationship between SARU and their Antipode cousins are not very healthy at the moment, and the repercussions of laying penalties on PDV could have soured relationships even more.

After seeing that the SARU board is now after Hoskins, it may soon be the end of the line for him. Hopefully they will then get someone like perhaps a Morne Du Plessis into the negotiations with the SANZAR.

During the time that Hoskins has been there, it is clear that as a negotiator and custodian of SA rugby he failed miserably

I am just happy that the wheel turned. The NZ press also question the non yellow of Woodcock. Like i said in the beginning of the Ref war, we must not back of like we always did. Go trough with this fight for consistency. If we can walk away from this ugly episode and refs are blowing consistent the winning was wort every spoken word.

If this post is removed so be it. I will fight for consistency.

    So, Snorrie is not guilty..

Does this mean that someone has nevertheless told him in no uncertain terms to curb his wayward mouth, or does this mean that we will see more verbal diaree?

a coach cannot NOT speak to the Press, that is part of the job! His character will always be “heart on sleeve” So let the show go on!

    Hello tapngo, welcome to Rugby-Talk.

Agree a coach cannot NOT speak to the Press…. but the other side of the coin is true as well.. a coach cannot keep on bladbering gibberish and expect only favourable results.

Div needs to learn control… it’s a vital part of his jobdiscription.

PDV must talk to the press. He just needs to be limited as to what he may say.

Thank you – when he recieves a compliment.

No comment – when a controversial issues is raised by the press.

Great coach – when asked about the opposing team’s coach

Good performance – when asked about the team that won.

We need to improve – when we lost.

thank you and goodday – at the end of an interview.

and last but not least- What do you think – when the press is baiting him into something controversial.

    7@ bos_otter:
Dis gewis so, Heinrich sal nie in hierdie Tri-Nations reg wees nie… hy is genooi Bokke toe met die oog op later, dit wat volg met betrekking to einde van die jaar en volgende jaar.

  • 9

@ bos_otter:7 Bos I looked at that but it is all in Afrikaans. I understand a lot but not everything. What does (beskikbaar) mean?

  • 10

    9 @ Puma:

    available…

  • 11

@ Blouste:10 – Blouste, Thanks now it makes sense. Pity.

I did read a few days back he would be with the Boks for 4 days but will only play towards end of CC. So never thought he would play for Boks.

    Boks have a point?

Respected New Zealand writer Marc Hinton believes Tony Woodcock’s ban escape after his illegal ruck clearance last Saturday could prove that the All Blacks are favoured by referees and the judicial system.

Loosehead prop Woodcock became the All Blacks’ most capped prop when he featured in his 67th Test in the 20-10 victory against the Wallabies in Christchurch. However, there was a controversial moment in the second half where Woodcock cleared Wallabies hooker Saia Faingaa from the ruck in an illegal manner.

The incident was seen by referee Jonathan Kaplan but Woodcock got off lightly as he just received a warning. After the match, there was no news of a judicial hearing.

There were a few complaints considering the Springboks received bans for foul play – lock Bakkies Botha (10 weeks for headbutting), centre Jaque Fourie and wing Jean de Villiers (four and two weeks respectively for lifting tackles). Wallabies Quade Cooper also received a two-week suspension for a spear tackle.

Hinton believes this gives the Boks’ referee conspiracy a point.

‘Goodness knows Graham Henry’s men don’t need any help beating their rivals, the form they’re in this year, and the confidence and efficiency they’re playing with,’ writes Hinton on stuff.co.nz.

‘But they certainly got some on Saturday night from otherwise exemplary South African referee Jonathan Kaplan in Bledisloe II in Christchurch.

‘Quite why Kaplan refused to reach for the yellow card isn’t certain, as Woodcock brutally thumped Wallaby hooker Saia Fainfgaa from behind at the back of a ruck. But the experienced official’s lack of a response to what was a borderline piece of play – at best – by Woodcock does nothing to refute the popular notion that the All Blacks are some sort of protected species in the eyes of the game’s referees.

‘OK, Faingaa wasn’t badly injured, and you could make a case that it was just a clearout of a guy on the wrong side of a ruck. But, given the standard that had been established in every other test this year, Woodcock’s indiscretion appeared much more than that.

‘It would seem Paddy O’Brien has some more explaining to do.’

    Plot thickens…

  • 14

    @ Puma:
Sorry for the late reply, and thanks Blouste…I’m trying my best to look busy at work 🙂

  • 15

This situation where the referees and citing commissioners are unable to card and cite the All Blacks are certainly allowing the plot to thicken.

It is like a bowl of soup, the longer it stands, the hicker it gets.

Unfortunately we all know what happens to old soup, it is thrown out, and never spoken about again.

    1. i hope that he’ll learn from it and be more careful of what he says
    BUT that said,
    2. hope that he’ll still speak his mind if we get the same inconsistency from refs

  • 21

    20@ Ashley:

Sy sê, “Ja jong, ek het nou ‘n brug in my mond!”

Seg hy… “Ja, smaak my mos daar het ‘n hond onder daai brug gekak”….

Did anyone really expect him to be found guilty?

PdV has however always been guilty of being 2 sandwiches short of a picnic, not the brightest light on the Christmas tree, and definetly not the quickest cheetah on the savannah!

Same goes for Hoskins IMO. As congealed as his grey matter appears to be for the most part, he’ll never get even so much as a reprimand. It just doesn’t happen.
