Well, not being a butcher 🙂 I’ll round that to read: “minimum of 4 on field, & 7 in the match day XXIII”

    Thx

  • 602

    @ Angostura:
haha I also think it is quite funny

    Currently it is 12%

    2015 24%
    2016 35%
    2017 40%
    2018 50%
    2019 60%

    Page 32

  • 603

    re post 601

sorry, MB, with 7.4 you must have been referring to the touring squad, not the match 23

  • 604

    @ Angostura:
yep, using politically correct maths it should round to 8 players.

  • 605

    @ Angostura:
Then again the world cup squad could be more.

But like I said there are conflicting reports. Im sure SARU does not even know what their own targets are or how to get it, they just slapped something together for Fikile.

  • 606

    @602

Black African projections is (page 32)

    2015 24%
    2016 35%
    2017 40%
    2018 50%
    2019 60%

Generic Black projections is (page 41)

    2015 30%
    2016 34%
    2017 40%
    2018 45%
    2019 50%

What this means is up to interpretation

so that puts Players of colour on field at

4.5—5 players of which 3.6–4 has to be black African.

  • 607

ah i understand why it is 24%

24% should be the average over a championship.

for example in the RC next year we play 3 games. Theoretically Meyer could select 3 P’soC for 1 game, but the he will have to select 4 in the other two games…minimum 😆

  • 608

but after 2017, the minimum coloured players per team goes into the negative Worry

  • 609

    Santa Claus
What do you want for Christmas Heyneke my boy?

    Heyneke
    A dragon!

    Santa Claus
    Come now Heyneke be realistic.

    Heyneke
Ok I want to win the World Cup next year.

    Santa Claus
Aha ok.. What colour dragon did you want?

The thing about Jacque dup though, had he been playing in england with that size or even the othe home nations, he could likely have had a whole year of test rugby behind him.
He was really good in SR this year before he broke his jaw.
He would have made a larger impact on the eoyt, much more than Oupa.

He was a very big youngster, and has started to grow into his size this year. Last year he was definitely too soft on the field, but he is improving for sure. If he keeps up his growth there is a chance that he will come into reckoning, we all know how much HM loves his big guys.

  • 611

Hmmm the SARU transformation plan for 2015:

Engage with franchises to increase black player representation to 30% (7 Black players in the squad of 23 with 5 players on field at all times.

    Bulls

    Ludekes team

    1. Trevor
    2. Strauss
    3. Kruger
    4. Flip
    5. Matfield
    6. Stegman
    7. Botha
    8. Spies
    9. Hougaard
    10. Pollard
    11. Basson
    12. Jan
    13. WSS
    14. Akona
    15. Visser

Where the hell is he getting the other 4 players?

  • 612

    @ MacroBok:

We need to start stealing some ABSAs from the Brokebacks.

    😆

  • 613

To no one in particular.I am a great fan of FS and believe
that he is a great player.
I also place a high premium on honour, which I think is conspicuously absent in Jurie and the rest of SARU.
If,as I believe,he was lured back to SA by certain incentives,
and if these incentives did not materialise, then why
is FS being crucified for SARU incompetence.
If they screwed up re SARS then I reckon that the onus
is on them to pu it right?

    This would be my squad:

    Tendai Mtwarira / Trevor Nyakane
Adriaan Strauss (Capt) / Bismarck du Plessis
Jannie du Plessis / Frans Malherbe
Eben Etzebeth / Pieter-Steph du Toit
Victor Matfield / Flip van der Merwe
    Francois Louw / Marcell Coetzee
    Willem Alberts / Schalk Burger
    Duane Vermeulen / Nizaam Carr

Fourie du Preez / Ruan Pienaar (utility back), Cobus Reinach
Handre Pollard / Pat Lambie (utility back), Marnitz Boshoff (utility back)
    Bryan Habana
Jan Serfontein / Damian de Allende (utility back)
Juan de Jongh / Sibusiso Sithole (utility back)
JP Pietersen (utility back) / Cornal Hendricks
    Willie le Roux (utility back)

If a 31-player squad, then I’ll also have Scarra Ntubeni in the squad as 3rd hooker.
If a 30-player squad, then Schalk Brits will be on standby as hooker cover.

Schalk Burger will likely not necessarily make the bench, but rather Nizaam & Schalk will rotate as bench loose forwards, covering all 3 loose forward positions. Willem & Schalk will also rotate as starting #7s. In certain matches Schalk might start #7, with Willem covering lock/loose forward & Nizaam loose forward, with no specialist lock cover. With these rotational permutations Nizaam would be a better fit than Oupa.

Quotas (for 2015) have been met, but I must state, that I chose (my personal) squad on merit, & only checked on quotas afterwards. It (selecting a team on merit that satisfies quotas) was not a problem now, but it could become a problem in years to come if we are not earnest about transformation at ALL levels of the game.

  • 615

Ok so then if we assume the following:

    31 players

    6 Props
    3 Hookers
    3 Scrummies
    3 Flyhalves/kickers

    Then the rest

Lets unpack the likely suspects then (based on recent selections)

    Props

Beast, Coenie, Jannie, Trevor, Frans, Julian

    Hookers

    Bismark, Andries, Scarra

    Scrumhalves

    FDP, Pienaar, Reinach

    Kickers/Flyhalves

    Lambie/Pollard/ Goosen (Fullback cover)

    The rest:

    Eben, Vic, Lood, Flip

Schalk, Duanne, Flo, Coetsee, Alberts, (covers Lock too) Carr (because he will outshine Oupa this next SR season)

Frans, Jan, JPP (Covers wing and Centre), Bryan, Willie, Mvovo

A bit thin on backline cover but still, a fair amount of versatility there.

    Other players to consider:

    Kolisi
    Mohoje
    Kriel
    Francois Hougaard
    JJ Engelbrecht
    Juan De Jongh
    Damian De Allende
    Warren Whitely
    PSDT
    Arno Botha
    Sbu Sithole
    Jacques x 2
    Schalk Britz
    Jano Vermaak
    Jacque Fourie
    Boshoff
    Cornel Hendriks
    Some other Lions player…

    That’s 50.

    And then there’s Luke Watson…..

    @ ryecatcher:

    I’m sorry I can’t agree with that assessment .

Although Hoskins is about as trustworthy as a Turkish carpet salesman Frankie puts the merc in mercenary.

It’s funny that he comes running back in to the arms of SA Rugby everytime the World Cup rolls around?

Making sure hemp it’s himself in the ship window for some lucrative post tourney contracts.

    It’s called Cupboard Love.

The problem comes in with the 6 props statement that Meyer made. It takes 2 places away, who would you add and substract based on that?

    re posts 606 & 614

    O, donner, MB
I see you have that 24% requirement as being applicable to Black Africans
    & a 30% requirement for Generic Blacks … in 2015 already?

I didn’t realise that … I don’t know how HM will achieve that, not on merit anyway …

This will open the way for talented players such as Mvovo, Senatla, Mohoje, Mapoe, Ntubeni, etc., to stake a strong claim for inclusion, but all of them in 2015 already?

    Maybe we misunderstand those targets?

There doesn’t seem any urgency about reaching these targets in 2015? No press discussions about it – nothing … Can it be?

How will they differentiate between the two?

The new Nats of 2015 will have to invent a new pencil test

Perhaps use a Dulux colour chart?

I can see the selectors discussing which category a player will fall into

“He’s too light for 20022 Ethiopian Ebony but definitely too dark for 20033 Latin Latte, maybe a 20055 Scottish Toffee”

  • 620

    @ Angostura:
I think the “problem” will mostly be at provincial level.

These are basically projections. They will likely review each year to determine how the year went. The saru transformation plan covers much much more than the springboks. It also covers administration level across the board that will be the bigger challenge.

    😳
I read 6 props, when you 1st mentioned it, but my mind interpreted it as 4 props (My mistake!)
Why would a squad need 6 props?
When did HM say he needed 6 props for the WC?

I could still see an argument for 5 props (Coenie then coming in coz he can scrumdown either side), & that would mean BOTH a lock like PSDT AND a loosie like Nizaam Carr will lose out to be replaced by a loose forward like Oupa Mohoje who can comfortably operate at both #7 or lock.

6 props will be a problem though – one of the wings-cum-centres like Sbu Sithole or Damian de Allende will then also have to make way & miss out.

Though he could have meant that hea wants 6 quality props tonchoose a wc squad from?

Haha i likenhow my they want minimum 60% black africans by 2019

In other words the bok coach would have to include at least 10%white black africans?

It’s the last year of the S18 in the new guise in 2019

I would like to see how they are going to negotiate a new SANZAR contract if they messed up the rugby so much by then

It might be the reason why the Aussies and Kiwis are bringing in Japan and Argentina next year

If no-one wants to pay to watch to see our racially engineered teams lose with cricket scores they can drop us and add teams from those countries

The flanker, Uzair Cassiem, who originates from the W-Cape, but plays for the Pumas has a surname that could originally have been Indian, Pakistani or from some other Asian geographical area. On appearance he looks as though he could be Indian or of mixed race.

Some of the Coloured folk here in KZN also have Indian blood flowing in their veins, & I wouldn’t be surprised if some of such play rugby, especially if they attend schools of a rugby culture. Some pockets of the Eastern Cape are also like that. And of course rugby is a much more broadly played & supported sport in the E-Cape than in KZN.

Be that as it may, I doubt Uzair Cassiem is pure Indian – not that it matters.

    OK, ciao out.

  • 630

    @ Victoriabok:
Our provinces does not seem to be worried though.

So maybe there has been a new transormation plan drafted since July 2014. There is some good things in there though that could lead to success in the next 15-20 years.
