    @ Stormersboy:
My pick would be Frans Ludeke….we have been hearing for so long now how his 2 titles were only due to HM, so maybe that means that he will have better success with the Boks if he again takes over after HM

  • 483

I’m not a fan of us appointing an overseas coach in rugby precisely because we are number 2…oops…number 5 on the world list. A tier 1 rugby country like us should be able to produce their own, quality coaches.

No way that we are a tier 1 soccer country. So therefor, appointing an outsider is understandable.

  • 484

    @ nortie:
Hahaha… now that’s one coach who will have all, and I mean all, the Bok supporters against him.

Maybe he should be appointed to try and create some unity among rugby lovers. Wink

  • 485

    @ nortie:
Rennie would be a good fit I reckon for the Bok….

  • 486

Get Graeme Henry to coach the boks. Or what about Small/Mallett and Carel du Plessis 😳

  • 487

    @ Nama:
hahaha and you would have gone for Gert even if he was not at WP?

  • 488

Not that I have a problem with Gert, appart from leaving WP in shambles last time he left, he has gained valuable experience over the last few years and is no doubt a better coach, it is just funny how HE is a candidate while other (read non WP) coaches should be written off.

Oh our unbiased resident, Nama 😆

Where I do feel sorry for HM is the political interference that he is subjected to, rightly or wrongly – and for this reason alone, I don’t believe that any ‘international’ coach, worth his salt would ever coach the Boks under the current conditions. If an outside coach did apply, it would be more out of desperation, and I fear, wouldn’t have the necessary coaching credentials needed to take the Boks to the top. Thus for me it would have to be a local coach.

However, that is the only feeling other than antipathy I have for HM.

    @ Just For Kicks:

Sure all that is probably true but clearly there is something very wrong with your overall rugby structure in SA and the people running your game just aren’t up to the task, how can a tiny country like NZ have 10 coaches who could step in and coach the Ab’s tomorrow yet SA has virtually nobody. The Bokke compete at the highest level because of the wealth of rugby talent you have but without world class coaching your days at the top could be numbered.

    487 & 488 @ MacroPolo:
    *face palm*

“appart from leaving WP in shambles last time he left,…”
What shambles was that? Winning two CC’s with WP and reaching the semi finals of SR with the Stormers?

And no…it is not because he is at WP. Supporting someone because he hails from the province that you support, is just Bull (excuse the pun). It is because he is the only SA coach currently with the necessary international experience to coach the Boks imo.

But hey, if you have someone in mind from your neck of the woods, feel free to nominate him or if you prefer an overseas coach, feel free to let us know who he is. 😉

  • 493

    @ Nama:
“appart from leaving WP in shambles last time he left” that’s what I said, and I again emphasize, the “last time he left”, the Stormers ended their season 9th on the log with a 75 point thumping at Loftus, but I understand why you would have selective memory/reading 😆

    *facepalm*

anyway as I said he has gained some good experience and I do not have a problem with him, it must be a coincidence he is from WP? hahaha

    Brendan Venter?

No wait, any suggestion must be from my neck of the woods? too bad I am not obsessed with that kind of thinking 🙂

  • 494

*comes the, but he is not from WP retort*

  • 495

    @ MacroPolo:
    Brendan Venter?

He did a sterling job at the Sharks in SR as consultant, didn’t he?

  • 496

Pollard credited the mentorship he received from senior players and coaches for his ability to cope with the pressure of playing senior rugby at an early age.

“It’s been an incredible journey so far. A few years ago, I found myself watching the Springboks on TV as a schoolboy. And today, I train with many of my childhood heroes. For a young player, that’s a pretty amazing experience, but on the other hand, it’s not a simple adjustment to make,” Pollard told MyPlayers.co.za.

“I’m thankful that the coaches and senior players have provided great support. Guys like Jean de Villiers are always there when I need advice or direction, which is important at Test level.

“The major lessons I’ve learned is to do the basics right and to be patient. Because of my quick promotion to senior rugby, I had to learn this quickly. You can’t afford to make mistakes at the higher levels of rugby as you will get punished, especially in a key position like flyhalf. With time and great mentorship, I continuously learn how to make the right decisions.”

So what he is basically saying is: I am doing my apprenticeship in the Bok jersey.

  • 497

“….Meyer has used four flyhalves in a starting capacity over the past four years. Morné Steyn has started the most Tests for South Africa during this period (21). Pollard has started 10, Lambie eight (at flyhalf), and Johan Goosen two.

The Boks have won 67% of their matches when Steyn has started, and 50% of their matches when one of Pollard or Goosen has worn the No 10 shirt. South Africa have enjoyed an 88% success rate when Lambie has been handed the starting flyhalf responsibilities.

What may encourage Meyer to back Lambie at a World Cup staged in England, is the player’s Test record in northern hemisphere conditions. Between 2012 and 2014, Lambie started at flyhalf in eight of the 10 Tests staged in Europe. The Boks won on seven occasions.

Steyn has a perfect record (two from two) in Europe during this time frame. Pollard started against Ireland in Dublin last year, and battled to prevent a 29-15 loss….”

As opposed to leading the team to 7th on the log…and correction…quarter finals?

  • 499

    @ MacroPolo:
Stormers played in the semis in 2004 when Smal was the coach. He is the DoR now.

The coach this year was AC.

Brendan was not coach either, so that cancels out the results of teams they consulted for?

  • 501

    @ Angostura:
I posted something similar yesterday but only concentrated on the period after Steyn was dropped. The figures don’t look good for P{ollard either.

Pollard: Started 7, won 2 and lost 5. The one victory came after Lambie kicked that penalty in the last minute against the AB last year.

Lambie: Started 4, won 3 and lost 1.

So overall, since Morne was dropped, the Boks win record plummeted to under 50%.

    45.45% to be precise.

    That’s scary!

  • 502

In which case with or without i would still nominate brendan to at least be on equal footing with gert.

  • 503

    @ Nama:
Nog so een of twee CC wenne en Macro en Ben sal eis dat Nolis Marais die volgende Bok coach moet raak 😉

Haha weereens met jou strooi mannetjies. Ek het geensins so iets voorgestel nie.

Of course you don’t. You constant defending of HM is just because…?

Afa Venter and Smal go, the one had reasonable success (his team reached the play offs) the other not so much.

So, you want me to go for the less successful one just because he is not from WP in order for me to prove that I’m not bias?

  • 506

    @ MacroPolo:
    Ek weet…nog nie.
Ek het mos gese na nog so 2 wenne, veral as julle nou die naweek die WP gaan pak gee

Dis dalk hoe julle n ding sien, maar marais moet darem eers tenminste in superrugby meeding.

  • 508

    @ nortie:
Dit sal my glad nie verbaas nie. 😉

  • 509
