Some really tough games this week…

On fire Blues at home against the Stormpoppies (NZ Conference Leader vs SA Conference Leader), who will be hurting after their shock loss – Could well be a Blues win.

The Waratahs vs Lions – Game should definately go the Waratahs way, but damn it would be good for the SA Conference (specially Bulls) if the Lions could pull this one off.

The Cheetahs could creep up to the Bulls on the Logs if they beat the Rebels well – Cheetahs should win this one at a canter.

The Sharks vs Bulls – Could go either way! If the Bulls win, they creep much closer to the Sharks on the Logs… and closer to 6th spot overall (which is needed to reach the play-off’s), whereas if the Sharks win they will strenghten their position in the Top 5, possibly even pass the Stormers for overall SA Conference leader. No lack of motivation here… the clash of the week.

Agreed GBS, if the Bulls lose to the Shaaks, then the Cheetahs are ready to punce on any slip ups. I was looking at the Cheetah’s remaining fixtures, and it will be interesting to see what effect the oppositions previous clashes will have before the teams tackle the Cheetahs.

Cheetahs tackle Rebels this weekend… if form is maintained sb a bonus point win

Then Cheetahs play the Bulls, the week after what should be a very physical clash with the Shaaaks.

Then the Sharks after the Sharks have played the Bulls, and Waratahs in succesive matches.

and finally the Cheetahs face the Stormers after a bye, and after the Stormers faced the Bulls the previous week.

So it’s going to be frenetic in the NZ and Sa conferences!!

    7@ Cheetah4eva:
Apart from the Rebels, a difficult road for the Cheetahs…

    Bulls
    Sharks
    Stormers

They could lose all 3 games…

That said, the Cheetahs are playing better and better rugby with every week, as the Competition progresses, much like the Bulls who seem to have awoken from their early season slumber.

I still think the Bulls have left their comeback ONE GAME too late, they should NEVER have lost to the Force! Damn they have 5 tough games left… Sharks x 2, Waratahs, Stormers & Cheetahs.

The Stormers seem to have peaked way too early and are now reaping the consequences. The Stormers have now lost against the Reds, Crusaders (2 Top teams), Chiefs… and after this coming weekend possibly to another top team (Blues), which does not bode well for them going into play-offs. Their last 2 games on tour the Stormers should win.

The Sharks is an unknown quantity at present, firing this week, battling the next… quite inconsistent, but they always get their A-Game up for the Bulls! Kanko is injured and Daniel suspended for 1 game and their midfield is wobbly, but they still have Alberts & Deysel in the loosies, with Beast, Bissie & Jannie in the front row, which translates into the fact that their forwards will still be a bloody hand full. In the backline Lambie will be a possible game breaker and that man, Mvovo (whom I really rate). How do you counter the Sharks…. attack their midfield and stop ALberts and Deysel, whilst keeping possession against them. Never easy at the Guppie Tank!

Who are the candidates to oust from the top 6 as it now stands… must surely be the Landers, Waratahs & Sharks!

    VRYSTAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAT!!!
    ……
    (from news24)
A finely planned strategy and the advice of former Springbok Brendan Venter helped the Cheetahs to shut down All Black centre Sonny Bill Williams on Saturday.

The home side put the giant centre under pressure from the word go through centres Barry Geel and Robert Ebersohn, as well as No 8 Ashley Johnson in their 33-20 Vodacom Super Rugby victory.
Williams did not emerge for the second half due to a knee injury, but not before the Cheetahs showed the Springboks how the professional boxer can be neutralised at the 2011 World Cup.

Venter wrote about the Williams-factor in his column for Sport24 last week and Cheetahs assistant coach Hawies Fourie took it on board.

Among the former Saracens coach’s observations were that Williams is not a traditional New Zealand inside centre and that he probably lacks pace. Venter also believes that Williams’s normal passing game is not good and that he will have less of an impact if his opponents exploit his weaknesses.

“Brendan wrote that the outside centre or player outside Sonny Bill Williams is actually the danger man. We definitely learned something from that,” said Fourie.

“Naka (Drotské, Cheetahs head coach) and Michael (Horak, defence coach) played with and under Brendan. You know he can be trusted, especially on the subject of defence.”

Fourie also revealed the Cheetahs’ special plan for Williams.

“Michael instituted a plan whereby Ashley would come out at the lineouts and rush in on Sonny Bill from the outside. He did not hit him hard every time, but the Crusaders had to change their plan. It definitely disrupted them,” he said.

“As far as the centres were concerned, we constantly nailed the guy next to Sonny Bill. If Sonny Bill was Barry Geel’s man on defence, the other players trusted him.”
