The Highlanders prevailed by the skin of their teeth to win by a margin of 3 points in a game where both sides scored 3 tries each and with the Cheetahs fighting hard at the end to eradicate the Highlanders lead.
At the end of the day a couple of missed penalties by Sias Ebersohn, was the difference between the sides.

10 The Highlanders win the line-out and Manu carries it up again but the ball is lost forward in the tackle and hoofed upfield by Pretorius so the Highlanders will run at them again. Manu goes on another good run making good ground. They recycle it and send it wide to Thomson who canters over for the TRY, Slade makes no mistake with the CONVERSION.

12 The Cheetahs have a line-out on halfway and they go wide. The Highlanders enter the ruck from the side and the Cheetahs set up the attacking line-out. They will want to make this possession count here.

14 The ball is over the back and Cowan comes away with it. The Highlanders bash it up in midfield before Slade kicks it into the corner. Viljoen tries to clear but it is a poor kick and the Highlanders are in good attacking position. Rutledge is wrapped up on the 22 and Manu gets over the gain line, Johnson does not roll away and Slade will take aim from right in front of the poles. The PENALTY is over.

17 The Highlanders have had all the ball so far, the Cheetahs will need to get their handfs on it and keep it if they are going to make an impression. The Cheetahs have an attacking line-out and it is stolen by the Highlanders and cleared upfield. The Cheetahs can’t afford to waste opportunities like that.
