Ireland hosts the Springboks at Aviva Stadium, Landsdowne Road, Dublin at 19:30 SA Time.

What is in stock for the embattled Springboks, from the lands up North?

I am apprehensive about this game, like I have not been in a long time, including how I felt during the disasterous Tri-Nations of 2010.

The Springboks seem to be a mish-mash of frontliners and young untested talent, between absolute quality and some shameful selections and we could expect a stutter or three from players who are not used to playing next to each other, players playing out of position and lack of proper training time and bad coaching.

Hell, that sounds ominous and a recipy for failure, but we are standing behind and bargaining on traditional Springbok resiliance, grit and determination.

A good tight 5 combination, with players who we all would go to war with is supplemented by a rookie at openside flank, a great blindsider and an off-beat No 8.

In the backline the selections were strange if not shocking, with Ruan Pienaar suddenly slotting in next to Morné Steyn and thus shunning the form of Francois Hougaard, we have one half-injured Inside centre and at Outside Centre we have a fullback. On the right wing we have a left wing, on the left wing we have a superstar whose star seemed to be burnt out in the Tri-Nations.. and at fullback we have a right wing. Then we have a backline coach who’s had the worst possible run coaching a Super Rugby Team in history.

Ireland on the other hand, has beaten us the last three times, they have possibly the best center combination in world rugby in Brian O’Driscoll and Gordon D’Arcy, and a forwards pack coached by one of our own, Gert Smal.

The Irish forwards will be a hand full at all set pieces, scrums, lineouts and they have an abrasive backrow containing Jamie Heaslip, David Wallace and Stephen Ferris.

OK, prediction time… I hate doing this but I cannot logically see a Springbok win and hope to hell I’m wrong in predicting an Irish win…. Ireland by 15.

Reading the papers now and there seems to be plenty gossip in the cricket again. Not just with Gibbs. (Will never buy his sleazy book) But see Micky Arthur now having a go at Ntini. Also on another page Micky saying Pakistan threw a match against us in 2007!!! Can we actually believe the cricket we watch these days? This kinda stuff puts me totally off cricket and it is the sport I enjoy the 2nd most.

@ Bullscot:98 – Howzit Bullscot, I answered your post on the other thread the other day. Not sure if you read it. Can’t even remember which thread it was on now.

How is the weather in Scotland? Here in Umhlanga it is very warm but overcast and think rain will come later.

Yip can’t wait for the rugby later. All of the SH games that is. Hope our Boks can do it.

Puma regarding the cricket it is sad that it has come to this, a lot of the time when an unbelievable result comes of instead of savouring it like I would have in the past I just wonder what influence the bookies may have had, its not right, for me cricket if my number 1 sport!

  • 102

@ Bullscot:101 – Bullscot, I feel the same everytime I watch the crici now. Wonder home much is for real or is some are throwing the game. Not good to think like that but really I often do. I love the cricket. My number 2 sport always.

Last night Steyn and Parnell were rubbish. Sorry to say that about them as they both only just came back after a lay off. But their bowling was terrible and cost us the game in the end. Smith dropped a sitter I thought too. Well under lights maybe he could have missed that catch but thought he should have got it.

    @ Puma:
Didn’t see the game just followed via net commentary so was disapointed we lost, couldn’t understand why Tsotsobe wasn’t playing, is he injured? If fit he should have played cause in this series and the t20s he was the pick of the bowlers, Pakistan just couldn’t handle him, should have sealed the series win first with the team that was working then made any changes. Must really go now, enjoy the rugby mate.

  • 105

@ Bullscot:104 – Bullscot, No don’t think Tsotsobe was injured saw him sitting in the stands. Also wondered why he was not playing. Think they have rotated the players. Crazy that, think if he played we would have won that game and wrapped it up. Now we have to beat them on Monday.

Enjoy the rugby too Bullscot and my favourite country next to South Africa, Scotland.

  • 106

Cheers Ash, Enjoy your weekend. I am out of here for now back later.

    GOOOOOOOOOOOOO BOKKE

  • 107

Hi all. Yeah the cricket was a joke last night,I wanted to throw something at the tv last night. Pakistan are an average team and we should punish them. I am in shock how professional sportsman crumble under pressure like our cricket players.

  • 108

Tsotsobe had a “back spasm” so couldn’t play last night.

It’s amazing how the Proteas manage to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory almost as often as the Rugby wearers of the Silver Fern. (AB’s)

Hehe. Site visit postponed until tomorrow, so a late afternoon of Rugby watching to look forward to.

Wife has got the ingredients and will light the fire for the potjie.

Must just pick up the mix for the Captain, and we’re all set.

Will just be sh1t on site in the sun tomorrow with a babalas, but hey that’s all part of the fun.

The Southern Hemisphere has my support today, Go Wallabies, All Blacks & Bokke!

Show the Mud Island Inhabitants (or half-people) what we are made of!

  • 111

    @ grootblousmile:
Think we may battle against the Bog Dwellers (Irish to the ignorant), but we have to hope that the players still have enough pride in the jersey, and enough experience and skill to bring us the victory, despite our “coaches” trying their hardest to prevent it.

Vark I can’t wait. Mustn’t get too inebriated before the SA game. It’s kak having to check what the score was on DSTV the next morning ’cause you can’t remember.

Went to the hardware shop, bought the stuff I needed and when I got home Handbriekie suggested I try my newest gadget out…. it’s a braai… they call it the “swanniebraai”.

Marvelous little thing, comes in a black canvas bag with handle and a side cooler-box pocket, is made of stainless steel and is basically an instant fold-up braai…

You assemble it (5 seconds), then throw 10 newspaper balls (10 x double page newspaper sheets crumbled into a ball) into the bottom, load your grill with meat, light the balls of newspaper and immediately begin to braai over the flames.

The fat which drips onto the newspaper keeps the balls going for long enough to braai.

You turn the meat more often than in a conventional braai, due to flame grilling it.. and in 7 minutes you are ready to eat!!

All which remains is a little bit of paper ash, which you throw out, wipe the “swanniebraai” parts with one extra newspaper ball… and stick it back in it’s canvas bag.

Ideal for braaiing before rugby after you have parked, or even during halftime, it literrally only takes that long!!

Handbriekie brought the patent home to me… think I must contact Willem Landman from “swanniebraai” (apparently a Free State farmer) and have him advertise here on R-T.

In the meantime, go look at it at http://www.swanniebraai.com

I don’t easily endorse something and was sceptical before I used it today, but damn this is goooooooooooooooood!

  • 113

    Anyway, cheers all.

Going to go wash the Tupperware Torpedo (that’s a Japanese bike with lots of plastic and varking quick to the ignorant), and make sure the wife gets the fire going properly.

Aussies by 5, All Blacks by 15, Bokke by 12. (And Captain Morgan by the double!)

  • 114

@ Scrumdown:109 – Enjoy the rugby and the potjie. Also if we win a babalas is just fine on site LOL.

@ Scrumdown: Never knew Tsotsobe had a back spasm. Hope he is ready for Monday cause we gonna need him.

  • 115

    @ grootblousmile:112 – Hope it works….hehehe. Otherwise you gonna eat burnt meat…hehehe.

  • 116

@ Winston:107 – Winston, I felt the same. Was so let down when we lost. We should have won that game last night. Now we need to win it on Monday. Well hope we do.

  • 117

    115@ Puma:
Check it out, I tried it and it works like a charm!!

    Go visit http://www.swanniebraai.com

    Shaaaaaaaaarks.!!!!!

    He he,

    Booooookkkeeeee!!!!

There you go, now my throat is sore.

  • 119

Why is the site so slow?

Reminds me of my “286” days.

  • 120

That’s one way to digest the morning news.

No thanks, a braai needs real wood or proper african charcoal, not that crap you buy in the shops.

GBS is probably just to lazy 🙂
