A 47-year-old woman was arrested on Thursday for allegedly conspiring to murder Blue Bulls rugby player Deon Helberg, police said.
She was arrested by the Hawks at a shopping centre in Pretoria around 09:30, spokesperson Colonel Vish Naidoo said.
He could not confirm the relationship between the woman and Helberg, saying it was “very sensitive” information.
She was expected to appear in the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court on Monday on a charge of conspiracy to murder.
It is suspected that the woman is the mother of Helberg’s ex-gilrfriend, who tried to contract some Nigerians to execute a “Hit” on Helberg and was trapped with the help of the Nigerians when she tried to give them R 10 000.00 as part payment of an arranged R 120 000.00, at Atterbury Value Mart in Pretoria.
