Springboks (16) 22 / All Blacks (14) 29 (Final Score)

The Springboks hosted the All Blacks in their last Tri-Nations match against one another of 2010 at FNB Stadium, Johannesburg at 17:05 SA Time. This was the match thread for discussion of the game. The match was bradcast live on SuperSport 1, SuperSport HD and M-Net.

The All Blacks won, scoring 2 quick tries in the last 3 minutes, to break the Bokke hearts and those of their supporters.

It must be said though that the Springboks showed moments of brilliance during the game though, with the Hougaard experiment working well and Juan Smith and Flip van der Merwe doing their part brilliantly too.

Jean de Vlliers shone at inside centre and Morne Steyn’s boot was as effective as ever.

… but well done Blacks, you came, you saw, you absorbed a shipload of pressure … and you won!

some NZ views on Rugby Heaven

The pressure the Springboks are under has been clear to see this week, especially when compared to how the All Blacks have handled themselves.

Graham Henry has been in great form, joking with the media and happy to talk at length with anyone who wants to pass the time of day with him. The players have had a business-like and confident strut to their step.

On the other hand, Peter de Villiers looked tense and nervous when he fronted the media on Tuesday morning. He sat next to the chatty and personable Victor Matfield at his press conference, perhaps hoping that all the questions would be directed to his lock rather than him.

The final factor is their captain, John Smit, who’s playing his 100th test. Smit has been talked up all week, with just about every All Black asked by a South African journalist for his views on their hooker.

Pointless of course. Richie McCaw isn’t going to say: “Smit? He’s well past his best, mate.”

    GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO BOKKEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

  • 5

Gbs, Are you at FNB yet? Send some photos.

  • 6

Some more, where is Heynecke Meyer, the motivational mastermind, he would work with this.

“Smit is being used as a motivational factor for the Springboks. But surely you should want to win because you’re the better team, not because of some numerical milestone.

The fact is that Smit is over the hill and he’s only in the side because Bismarck du Plessis is injured”

In McCaw they have a player capable of pilfering ball all day long at the breakdown. With Heinrich Brussow out injured, the Boks don’t have a fetcher anywhere near McCaw’s ability. While Schalk Burger and Juan Smith are quality loose forwards, they don’t have the tenacity to get in there and turn over possession like McCaw does. The All Blacks captain should have a field day.

There are no weak links in this All Blacks side and they have been superb in every facet of the game this year.

Consecutive win No 14 coming up.

@ bos_otter:Bos, Even if we win by one point buddy, that all that counts. Remember last year when we beat the BIL by that last kick by Morne. Well that will be good enough for me. A win is a win 😀

But this is different. Nothing quite like a AB/Bok game. Nothing at all. Now at that magnificent stadium the atmosphere going to be electric. Still waiting on gbs, to tell us a bit. He must be there now. Never had to park far off had vip parking.

    Go our beloved BOKKEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

Okay I am out of here. Going to the clubhouse for the Bok game but back to watch at home my Sharkies.

    Catch up later. Cheers all.

    GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO BOKKEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
