The Springboks have made three changes to their match 22 for the second Tri-Nations Test against the All Blacks in Wellington on Saturday.
There are two enforced changes to the starting XV with lock Danie Rossouw promoted from the bench to replace the suspended Bakkies Botha and prop CJ van der Linde replacing injured tighthead Jannie du Plessis.
Botha was suspended for nine weeks after being found guilty of foul play in the first Test whilst du Plessis suffered a calf strain in Auckland and has been ruled out.
Rossouw will be making his 50th Test appearance at the Westpac Stadium.
The third change is on the bench where loose forward Ryan Kankowski fills the place vacated by Rossouw.
Van der Linde and Kankowski return after being in the match 22 in the first Test against Italy in Witbank on 19 June.
The Boks lost the first Test against the All Blacks 12-32 at Eden Park.
Asked if he had been tempted to make more changes after the defeat, coach Peter de Villiers said: “No. We trust the abilities of our players and we know what they are capable of when they are on song.
“They let themselves down last week and the All Blacks were very good in Auckland. ”
“I am sure we will be much better on Saturday and show that we are able to stand up from the loss. You don’t become a bad team overnight,” he said.
Captain John Smit said that he was confident the Springboks could bounce back at the weekend.
“We have to return to basics and make sure we play to our strengths. We have a great team ethic and our discipline was good when you consider the amount of penalties we gave away compared to the percentage of ball we had,” Smit said.

I don’t like CJ at 3.

I have never really thought of CJ as a powerful tighthead…..
The problem is we don’t have a decent 3 in the squad, when will the Bulls prop, Werner Kruger get a chance, our scrum did not do well on the weekend, and with CJ there it might do worse.

I pleaded for Werner Kruger to be given a Bokke try-out in the matches preceeding the Tri-Nations, even if just to see if he can make it in the International stage, it was not done… now we sit with this conundrum.
A fellow blogger, tight head, thought that it was too early to give Werner a go…. and I took due note to his stance, him having been a prop himself.
My feeling was that the positions where there is least depth, we need to bring possibles through.
But this was not an isolated mistake from our selectors, not having given Ruan a starting run and a chance to combine with Morné was equally short-sighted.
We’re stuck with limited options now, it seems.

I myself played prop for Edenvale in the early nineties, and the perception that only “old” props should be at the higher level is nonsense.
Look at Owen Franks, I doubt whether he is older than 22.
The problem with Ruan Pienaar, is that whether due to political pressure or just his way of selection, PDV will not go to anyone else at 9 other than Januarie. I wonder if Fourie du Preez wasn’t the class he was, Januarie would have remained his first choice.
The same goes for FRans Steyn.
I just wonder when will the day arrive when we can pick the best and stick with them without fear of political interference.

I have a distinct feeling SA grew as a Country the most in 2010…. considering the Soweto Super 14 stints and the goodwill between people built there… as well as the Nation’s buy-in for Bafana.
We even hear that our Presssie, Zoomer has called for South-Africans to keep flying their flags post SWC… to support the Bokke…..
Great positive vibes in SA which now needs to be cemented once and for all!
I somehow think though that we are stuck for another decade or so with undue compromise in rugby, making it ever more important to bring players through from age-group levels…

Ricky Januarie is not worth of a Bokke jersey as well as Chilliboy Ralepelle.
We need Bjorn Basson and Jano Vermaak (or DeWaldt Duvenhage).

Scrummie is a hotly debatable issue, simply because SA has quite a few in the background who might have been better choices…..
I quite like Sarel Pretorius at the Griquas..
But what I think should have happened is a scrummie should have been selected who is the nearest in type of play and with almost the same strenghts as Fourie du Preez… and here I think Ruan Pienaar fits the bill best.
Neither Jano or Dewaldt Duvenage has a good tactical kicking game…
13 that is why I feel that Divvie should start with Pienaar and should he need to take over at flyhalf he can then put the worsman on

That should have been sorted and addressed in the matches before the Tri-Nations, but was’nt.
Seeing as NZ and the Ozzmob plays a bit after the Bokke returns home, maybe Ruan should be practised in then, after getting a good 2nd half run next to Morne in these next 2 tests in these 2 following weeks.
I like this coach more and more “you dont become a bad player overnight, we trust the ability of our players”…I would kill for a guy like that.

Ek dink dat PdV vergeet het van Francios Hougaart. Hy het brijant vir die Bulle op vleuel gespeel en met sy kennis van skrumskakel spel het hy baie keer skoongemaak waneer FdP besig was of ingetrek is.
Dan dink ek ook dat Dewalt Potgieter se uitsluiting n moerse fout is.
