SPECULATION

ASSUMPTION

CONJECTURE

These are probably the three ugliest words in the rugby world today!

SPECULATION: The Afrikaans word for this isΒ  SPEKULASIE. Often supporters and journalists use the term that they THINK this will happen or that that will be the outcome whilst they are actually just speculating without a single shred of fact or evidence about a matter.

Let me give you examples…. “I Think the Bulls will lose momentum having rested players” or “They will be rusty”

What they should actually say is I predict and believe or there is the distinct possibility that the Bulls will lose momentum or that they will be rusty.

Speculation is based mostly on idiotic assumption…. that brings me to the next ugly word.

ASSUMPTION: Well, assumption is the mother of all stuff-ups, that we know well! Assume that the Crusaders will be tavel weary or assume that the Stormers will beat the Waratahs… or assume that the Super 14 Final will be amongst two South African Teams… and you have a recipy for disaster.

Assume that Orlando Stadium will be to the Bulls advantage at your peril.

CONJECTURE: Conjecture is speculation with assumption but added to it another twist… story telling! This is nothing but lying through your teeth, boasting without cause…Β and it immediately creates the notion that we think you are totally brainless!

Dick Muir and the Lions have been masters at this in 2010 and so has supporters of certain teams touting their teams as the Super 14 Champions, long before this race is run.

What is the saying about OPINION again…. Opinions are like arseholes, everybody has one.

Β

In the Super 14 we saw once again that Team No 1 to 13 can give one another a hard game, and that on the day anything can and will happen!

There, I’ve got it off my chest, now I feel much better!

I think I’m going to solicit all sorts of weird and wonderful responses on this Article… hehehe
