Bloemfontein. – Die kookwater-vleuel Lionel Mapoe vir verlore vir die Vodacom Cheetahs en sal voortaan sy rugby vir die Sharks speel. OFM Sport het vetroulik verneem dat die Springbok Sewes-speler reeds in Durban aangemeld het. Daar was vroeer berigte dat Mapoe en die Vrystaat Rugbyunie in ‘n kontrak-geskil betrokke was en ook berigte dat hy moontlik op pad na die Bulls is. Mapoe se agent, Jan-Harm van Wyk, wou dit egter by navraag nie bevestig nie en het gese hy kan in die stadium geen kommentaar lewer aangesien die saak sub judice is. Die President van die Vrystaat Rugbyunie, Harold Verster, het op sy beurt gese, Mapoe het ‘n bindende kontrak met die Cheetahs…. Mapoe kon nog nie vir kommentaar opgespoor word nie.

Bloemfontein – Star Cheetahs wing Lionel Mapoe has secretly joined the Sharks and the 21-year-old Sevens Springbok is set to start training with his new “team-mates” this week.
The Cheetahs are up in arms about Mapoe “disappearing” from the Free State and his unexpected arrival at the Sharks.
Nobody in the management of Free State rugby knew about Mapoe’s shock move and they are furious about the manner in which one of their top players has been poached.
Free State Rugby Union (FSRU) president Harold Verster maintains that they have a “watertight and valid contract with Mapoe”.
It now appears as if the rugby unions of the Free State and Sharks are heading for a legal showdown that may involve the South African Rugby Union.
The Sharks have also been involved in a legal tussle with the Golden Lions Rugby Union about Louis Ludik and Willem Alberts. Earlier, the Lions and Western Province were also in a dispute over Jaque Fourie.
There was initially talk that Mapoe was a target for the Blue Bulls as they looked to replace Bryan Habana.
Verster says the Cheetahs have a valid contract with Mapoe that stretches until 31 October 2011.
“We got senior legal advice about his contract and are convinced that it is valid,” said Verster.
“We won’t issue a clearance certificate for Lionel to play or train elsewhere. If that happens, the FRU will take steps against the people involved. Mapoe is a talented player that we identified at schools level and offered a contract as a junior. He chose to accept our three-year contract offer.”
Mapoe and his representatives were at logger heads with the FRU over his small salary at the Cheetahs earlier this year. The Cheetahs then looked for sponsorships to increase his salary and were convinced that his unhappiness was something of the past.
Meanwhile, Johann Thormählen reports that Springbok hooker Adriaan Strauss is set to stay in Bloemfontein in spite of big overseas offers.
Strauss was on the shopping list of the Leicester Tigers in England and the Melbourne Rebels in Australia.

I’m working at a Corporate Finance Company Blouste,I’m currently doing valuations of companies but down the line I’ll get involved with mergers and acquisitions etc.. I am just very green at the moment,I have so much to learn,seems like a good opportunity.. But it’ll come with time I guess.

If this is true it is another case where the Sharks do not respect an excisting contact. The contract of Mapoe expires 31 October.

Gerugte het dit dat die Bulle ook ‘n goeie aanbod wou maak aan Mapoe destyds met daai despuut tussen hom en die Vrystaat. Na hulle met die Vrystaat gepraat het, het hulle besluit Mapoe moet sy kontraktuele verpligtinge teenoor die VRU eers nakom.
Goeie eerlike beginsels en wys hulle prioriteite is myns insiens waar dit moet wees.
Die Sharks moet onthou…’n jakkals verander van haar, maar nie van snaar nie…
Hulle moet wonder watse lojaliteit het die klomp spelers wat hulle so met “loopholes” in hulle kontrakte weg gerokkel het nou regtig het teenoor die Sharks.

There is also no proof yet that he is or is not training in durban with the Sharks
And i also cant see the Sharks taking a player without knowing the facts , the Alberts etc case proved the Sharks had however acted correctly
Blouste there is nothing about the Bulls had acted honorably and left the plan the get mapoe, they had been trying to and just did not succeed
Come now , plain and simple it was still thought he was on his way to the Bulls union, they never withdrew from nothing , it seems they lost the battle to get him thats all
