Sharks prop Jannie du Plessis was on Thursday found not guilty of dangerous play during a Super 14 match against the Reds in Durban on Saturday, April 3, 2010.

Du Plessis was cited under Law 10.4 (a) – for allegedly striking Reds hooker Sean Hardman with the head. He was also cited for breaching Law 10.4 (k) – for entering a ruck in a dangerous manner.

SANZAR Judicial Officer Jannie Lubbe considered the evidence of the player, viewed video recordings and angles of the incident, studied the report of the Citing Commissioner Andrew Prior and heard submissions from his representative Gerrie Swart.

Mr Lubbe concluded that when Du Plessis made contact with his opponent no ruck was formed, but a dynamic tackle situation as envisaged by Law 15 occurred.

The action performed by Du Plessis according to the Judicial Officer was to legally clean out the Reds hooker Sean Hardman, using both his arms as he was entitled to do.

As a result Lubbe dismissed the citing complaint
