India won the first one day International played at Jaipur by one run.

South Africa needed to score 64 off 31 balls when number 10 batsman Dale Steyn walked to the crease. No one gave South Africa a hope in hell. Dale and Parnell scored a brilliant partnership  that took us to 8 runs short of a miraculous win. Parnell fought on gallantly and was run out in his attempt to draw the match. South Africa ended one run short.  Pfheeew My poor Heart.

9th Wicket: 50 runs in 32 balls (WD Parnell 27, DW Steyn 27, Ex 1)
WD Parnell run out (Sreesanth/†Dhoni) 49runs , 47BF, 4x 4, 1×6, SR 104.25
DW Steyn b Kumar 35 runs 19BF 1x 4,  3x 6, SR 184.21

India team
SR Tendulkar, V Sehwag, V Kohli, MS Dhoni*†, SK Raina, YK Pathan, KD Karthik, RA Jadeja, P Kumar, A Nehra, S Sreesanth
South Africa team
HH Gibbs, LL Bosman, JH Kallis*, AB de Villiers†, AN Petersen, JA Morkel, MV Boucher, J Botha, WD Parnell, DW Steyn, CK Langeveldt

Game start at 11:00 SA time

The Test series wasn’t closely fought – both teams won by an innings- in the conventional sense but the matches were intense and dramatic contests. It has, thus, left everybody hoping that the ODIs will be as interesting. Some key players are missing from both India and South Africa but, as Australia proved on their last trip here, the absence of personnel can be overcome.

Team news

Both teams have been hit hard by injuries: South Africa will miss Smith while India don’t have Gautam Gambhir, Yuvraj Singh and Zaheer Khan. India’s injuries present more opportunities to the likes of Virat Kohli and Suresh Raina to cement their places in the side. Kohli had a superb outing in the tri-series in Bangladesh and the pressure is on Raina, whose stock slipped after a poor ICC World Twenty20.

Pitch and conditions

“We’ve prepared a batting wicket. It is a 270 wicket,” curator Taposh Chatterjee said. In the last game played here, India nearly chased Pakistan’s 306 and one can expect another run-fest. However, dew is expected to play a role and the teams batting second might have an advantage.

Come on the Proteas. I think we should open with Bosman and Amla and has been Gibbs must drop down the order as he cant play the swinging white ball these days.

  • 2

Thanks Super for our crici thread.

  • 3

Hey Puma. I think we are the biggest cricket supporters on this site 🙂

  • 4

Hey Puma – haven’t chatted for some time buddy. Pity about our team mate, but all is not lost. Think it is time to bring in the youngsters and build for the future. Nothing to loose. Also take the cheque book out and buy JdV.

  • 5

Well good luck to the Proteas today – is it a one day international?

  • 6

Morning Winston, Yip would open with Bosman and Amla let Gibbs come in down the order. Good team and pleased Bouch is back.

India though have some great batsmen there, Sehwag, Tendulkar, Kohli and Dhoni.

Not nice to say as he is injured, but pleased Singh is not in their side. A really great spinner. We struggled against him.

    Good luck Proteas.

4 – Irish, For sure I would have JdV in our side anytime, but if we could get Frans Steyn back that would be first prize.

Time to start building for sure. We don’t have a bad team so not sure what is going on. Our backs are not that fast, Odwa should be replaced with the exciting Mvovo. Stefan at FB is always reliable but we need someone with more speed there. Hoping Ludik can tour. Also would change our Loose Trio about. Let Deysel start at 6 then Alberts at 7 and Kanko at 8. Think that would be a awesome loose trio. Also John should always start at hooker. Our centres are a worry. How we miss Fransie this year.

Proteas are playing India in a odi starting at 11am our time 9am your time. Jeepers you up early?……hahaha.

3 – Winston for sure. 😀 It is Superbul, you and myself the biggest crici supporters here. I love the cricket but of course rugby is first with me but cricket is a very close 2nd.

  • 9

Before the crici starts. Off for a quick swim.

    Catch up at 10.30am.

  • 10

    morning all
Whats up with Kanko, he runs away from his own players 😆
If he could vary his play and try harder to link with a team mate you could have scored 2 more tries. Thats what i predicted before the season started, your back 3 does not play as a unit, maybe lack of game time together, too many changes??? Some of the old DM playing players all over the place still ingrained there?

  • 11

Hi Super.I think now that fetcher is now redundant for the time being I would play Alberts and Deysel as the big ball carriers and the men that can do the grunt work and have Kanko running the ball. I think Boets is past his sell by date and Daniel is nothing special.

  • 12

Whatever they do there , i feel that game time together is all they need. It is not so bad as it look. You have 2 points on the log and that is only 6 away from the 4th position. There is 11 more games. Even if you lose another it wont be the end of it. Keep faith and be patient.

Take chances, run like mad. The scrum looked quite good with JS at hooker. I for one wont write the Sharks off yet. Maybe you try it the other way around. Previously you started well and ended poor.

2pm Welcome to the opening match of this three-match series. Jacques Kallis has won the toss and he’s opted to field. Sreesanth and Yusuf Pathan are back in the squad and the pair is straight into the playing XI. Stay tuned for the South African line-up.

  • 14

For South Africa, Loots Bosman, Charl Langeveldt and Albie Morkel are in. The specialist spinner for them is Johan Botha.

  • 15

I am not so sure Super,I think the problems run alot deeper than just needing a bit of luck. You just get the impression that there is a problem with the vibe in the camp and there are too many holes in key positions,to me the biggest problems is that we have no creativity in the backline,we need a game breaker very badly, have too many journey men in the back line..

  • 16

Hopefully we win the toss and bowl first because the ball becomes like a cake of soap there with the dew at night.

  • 17

Like i said , patience, or go ahead and clean up and build a new team. Thats normaly a 3 year thing. But with so much experience maybe one or 2 changes might do it. Chase the k@k maakers away.

  • 18

Jaque Kallis won the toss and decided to field.

  • 19

Agreed Super, you dont become a bad team over night with that much talent and experience. But we just need something to spark the team. But until we have a 10 that wants to be there, and a mid field combination that does not just crab across the field and a right wing who is probably the slowest in the tournament we will be in trouble. I’m happy with the rest of the team except for the Du Plessis brothers who are a bunch of drama queens..

  • 20

Good man.he read the conditions well.

  • 21

Super, Think we should have batted first.

I would have found a place for Van der Merwe. Think we should have had two spinners in our side.

    Anyhow go Proteas good luck.

  • 22

I dont agree Puma, the ball becomes very slippery at night which negates the reverse swing and the spin bowlers cant grip the ball. We just need to keep them to 270 or so 🙂

  • 23

I watched Du Mond last year, i can not understand why he is not rated higher. Remember how poor Morne was when he was unsure of his place. Look at JLP , look at any no 10, they need to grow with a scrumhalf and that 8,9,10,12 axis. Sorry this guy is treated bad, and has real potential.

  • 24

19 – Winston agree with you and yes Super is right, we don’t become a bad team over night. Just think our tour is a monster this year.

Odwa should be replaced with Mvovo he is a exciting player good speed too. Our loose trio should be Deysel, Alberts and Kanko that would work better. John back at Hooker and Adi should move back to 13, Swannie in at 12. Think that would work a bit better.

Saders no doubt now that they lost huge to Reds will start McCaw this week rather than the next. He adds so much to that team so hope we can do it. Just don’t have too much hope for now.

Anyhow good luck to our Proteas.

  • 25

I agree that he is our number 2 but I honestly cant see him starting every game and getting the Sharks into the Super 14. I think he is solid but nothing special.

  • 26

22 – Winston hope so mate. With Sehwag there we need to bowl very well. Anything over 270 is going to be a huge total to chase.

  • 27

That side does look much better Puma but our 10,12,13 combination is still flat. Pienaar does not want to be there. Its like Ashwell Prince who does not want to open the batting. And I think Swannie is a bit of a crash ball expert,he is not a play maker, but think Adi would be much better at 13,he is not a 12. We must stop playing guys out of position..

  • 28

I hope now people will now finally realise what a huge loss Pollock is to the side, you could shoe him in for going for under 40 in his 10 overs and was great to have batting at 7 and 8 with Boucher.

  • 29

When are they going to try Adi at 10 again? 😆 O DM is gone or was Plum the man doing that?

  • 30

Morning Boys, well that was a fairly flat out, frantic rugby weekend!! So loads for you all to mull over.
superBul, do you read the Sunday Times online or does Stephen Jones write for your Sunday papers too! I notice he is read and reviled by you guys!! 😉
