Schalk Burger and Bismarck du Plessis are injured and are doubtful for Saturday’s Tests against Italy.
Both players are carrying rib injuries and did not take part in the Springbok Mondayscrummaging session. John Smit remained at tighthead and the Freestate Cheetahs captain, Adriaan Strauss scrummed at hooker. If Burger does not play it seems as if he will be replaced by late call up, Jean Deysel, who trained with the Bok Test team.
This again makes a mockery of the original squad announced where players like Heinke van der Merwe and Bandise Maku were touted as being in the squad on a merit basis, yet after the loss to Leicester they have been replaced by players deemed not good enough to make the original squad. Deysel was called up to replace Spies, and after a mediocre performance against Leicester seems to have leapfrogged the more deserving Dewalt Potgieter and Danie Rossouw into the Bok Test team.

Let them rest no need to rush them in for the Italy game. We have Deysel and Potgieter that can fill in for Burger and A. Strauss for Bissie.
Well if Deysel trained with the Bok squad it looks like Deysel will fill in for Burger. Very good replacement.

Our loosies are far better than the ones that played against Tigers. Wish though Vermeulen was at 8. Then Johnson had quite a good game against Tigers. Our front row is FAR better.

Soos ek gesê het, Smitty is die beste kaptein wat ek gesien het, maar ek glo nogsteeds hy moet haker speel. Kan nie dink dat ‘n ou se loopbaan langer gemaak kan word deur vaskop te speel nie, seker die moeilikste posisie vandag op die veld.
Hoop vir julle part hy is weer cappie volgende jaar by die sharks want die ander (Muller, Stefan) is nie naby sy gehalte nie.
Lyk egter of julle groot probleme het met sekere spelers se vorm: Adi, JPP en veral Kanko en RP speel nie naastenby hul potensiaal nie, terwyl Beast na die BIL ook nie meer die wêreld aan die brand speel nie.
Nou, dalk is dit hul af-seisoen, en dit gaan dalk beter volgende seisoen.

Agree with you boet. Smitty should be captain of the Sharks. Why Plum does not select as our captain have no idea. Maybe next year he will.
