Sharks Coach John Plumtree has been able to select from just about his strongest squad of the Absa Currie Cup campaign for Saturday’s showdown with the Free State Cheetahs in their Absa Stadium Durban semifinal.

Courtecy of the Sharks official web site:

Stefan Terblanche will retain the captaincy role he has carried all season with great success but he will be aided by two other leaders in John Smit and Johann Muller – the latter one of a slew of players who went into the week with an injury cloud hanging over them, but have all emerged match ready.

The backline remains unchanged although Monty Dumond comes in for Waylon Murray on the bench in the only change amongst the backs. In the forwards, Jean Deysel who played off the bench last week starts at flank alongside another stalwart in Jacques Botes who also makes a welcome return from injury.

The Vodacom Super 14 lock pairing of Johann Muller and Steven Sykes is re-united with Muller’s arm holding up against a physical bashing in practice while the front row remains intact from last week (and the Springboks) with both of Bismarck du Plessis and Tendai Mtawarira having come through the injuries the pair sustained against Griquas last week and have been passed fit to play.

Michael Rhodes and Alistair Hargreaves are the unfortunate players to miss out, although their contribution has been invaluable and they will certainly share in the team’s euphoria and success.

    28 @ Loosehead – You seems to be stressing a bit. Tension is building……….

  • 32

    @Loosehead – 28

    BIG SMILEY…hahaha.

    @fender – 29

    Smit should be captain not sure why Plum does not give it to him. Think maybe because he is out doing duty for the boks for most of the CC and then not fair on the one that was captain.

    Still crazy Smit is the best captain in world rugby and should be of his union too. Victor is out for most of the CC doing duty for the Boks but once he is back he is captain of the Bulls. They way it should be.

    @Puma
    @Snoek
    From now on, no more Mr Nice Guy! 😈

  • 35

    @Loosehead – Farkin smilies!

  • 36

    29 @ fender – Thats a very good question.

    But honestly i think the descision to keep Oupa as captain is a good one. The players definately respect him, and for the sake of continuity it is good to see the same captains every week.

    The Sharks are a professional outfit and will understand that they have three leaders in the team that can compliment each other rather than work against each other.

    I foresee no problems. Oh, and i hope your scenario is just a figment of your imagination.

    I agree completely. Nothing against Stefan – he continues to amaze me – but a CC semi-final is not the time and place to get sentimental.

  • 38

    @Loosehead – What game plan do you think the cheetahs should employ against the Sharks to maximise their chance of a win?

  • 39

    Ja ek is ‘n bul.

    38@Snoek
    wel soos een van ons ou lede (toe was ek nog ñ snotkop btw) altyd gesê het: “foeter daai bôl!!” (afgelei van feed/ pass daai ball, hehehe)

    Broer, I don’t doubt that the guys respect Stefan. But, I think Plum should’ve made Smittie captain on the Boks’ return (pending fitness and availibility).

    Probably won’t, but it could come back and bite you guys in da bum.

    @fender – 37

    Agree. Why John is not captain I have no cooking clue really. I would have made him captain without having to think about it.

    @Rooipiet – waat is Jorrie op die oomblik?

  • 46

    @K9-MonsterLeeu – #45 ‘n mens?

  • 47

    @Tripples – Bwhaaaaa haaaa haaaaa

  • 48

    As ek die twee spanne vergelyk, sal die volgende Ctahs manne die Sharks span haal:

    Mapoe
    Bosman
    Brussow

    Welkom hier by die bulle se blog. 😉

  • 51

    @Snoek – #47 dankie dankie

    (dink nie K9 het dit amusant gevind nie 🙂 hy is skoon stil)

  • 52

  • 55

  • 58

    I like this ‘game on paper’ business. Only place where one team can beat the other into pulp?

  • 59

    @bdb – Sal ‘n garing opsit.

  • 60

    Mmm…I see Treehugger is having nothing to do with the paper and pulp direction in which this thread is moving.
