Inspirational Griquas captain Jonathan Mokuena has signed a two-year deal with the Golden Lions.
The former SA Sevens captain, who has led his provincial team to the brink of the Absa Currie Cup semifinals, will join his new teammates in November when preparations start for the 2010 Super 14.
Mokuena is believed to also be a candidate to lead the side. Golden Lions chief executive Manie Reynecke yesterday confirmed Mokuena had signed. Also signed up for a two-year period is Blue Bulls utility back Marius Delport, a former star at national under-21 level.
The two follow Bulls flyhalf Burton Francis and Western Province wing Tonderai Chavhanga to Johannesburg.
I read that the Bulls did not renew the contract of Marius Delport.

The Bulls won’t miss Delport or Burton Francis.
Griquas may just be better off without Jonathan Mokuena as well, the man is a walking yellow card.
WP won’t miss Chavanga either, he is a perrenial sick-note.
Lions should do better than signing these “half-stars”!

Province coach Allister Coetzee was disappointed by the incident.
“There are two bite marks on Francois’s forearm. It’s out of our control … it is clear on video,” said Coetzee.
Louw showed Sport24 a bite mark at O.R. Tambo International Airport on Sunday morning and expressed his disgust at the incident.
“I can’t believe a player can stoop to that level,” he said.
Prior said there would “probably” be a citing, but is only expecting additional footage on Monday.
The broadcast footage was apparently unclear.
Louw reported the incident to referee Marius Jonker during the game. Jonker then asked Lions captain Cobus Grobbelaar to address his players.

Anyway, ek dink die Leeus is op die regte pad. Hulle kort diepte vir die s14 en hulle is besig om die regte dinge te doen. Hopelik word Heyneke coach. Hy is die regte man om die Leeus se strukture van 0/19 af reg te kry en nie n quick fix te soek nie.
Mokuena is a good buy…but captain? In what position? Def not no8. Alberts is the best no8 in the country! Delport is a kak signing….maybe we need some depth in for our VC team.

Ek het Delport al sien speel toe hy nog vir HS Zwartkop se 1st gespeel het. Die mannetjie het spoed en is ‘n sterk karakter, hy het potensiaal, en ek dink ook die Leeus kyk verdeer as net S14, hulle bou op alle vlakke.
@Mr-T – hy was goed op junior vlak maar uit die bus uit geval toe hy senior word. Het ‘n windgat houding gekry ook. Dalk ruk die leeus hom reg.

Kyk, enige-iemand is beter as Jaco Pretorius. Delport het hierdie jaar in die semi teen die Crusaders gespeel to Wynand beseer was – en bleddie goed gedoen.
Makuena se dissipline sal moet verbeter, maar glo dat onder n proffesionele afrigter dit sal gebeur. Daar gan nou baie interne kompetiese wees in die Leeu kamp, kan net die spelers en span in geheel verbeter.

Enige nuus oor Bjorn Basson wat bulle toe kom? Ek weet hulle is bereid om hom uit sy kontrak te koop met ‘n oordrag fooi. Die bulle is bietjie dun op vleuel en hy behoort te begin voor VD Heever.

Maar ek weet ook darem nie of Bjorn beter is as Gehard van den Heever nie. Van den Heever kort nog werk op vedediging, maar sy finishing skills is blerrie goed. Die seun is ook nog jonk, so sy vedediging sal verbeter.. en gou ook.
