Toying around with the probable teams for the Currie Cup Final, we compare the head-on collisions between the 2 Teams’s respective opposing players.
In the analysis we will pit left wing against opposing right wing, loosehead prop against opposing tight head prop…
I’m putting my personal opinion forward here, as to who is better than his opponent… and my analysis is based on current form and what has been shown in the last few weeks in the Currie Cup.
People will differ with me on a few of my choices as best player in his position… and of course you are welcome to do so.
The Players who are highlighted in BOLD TYPE are the players that I feel is currently better than their direct opponent.

Sure-fire players who are better are Wynand Olivier, Morné Steyn, Fourie du Preez, Dewalt Potgieter, Heinrich Brüssouw, Victor Matfield, Bakkies Botha, Wian du Preez, Adriaan Strauss, W P Nel, Danie Rossouw, Coenie Oosthuizen, Hendro Scholtz, Heini Adams & Francois Brummer.
I’ve made some controvercial choices… Hennie Danniler over Zane Kirchner, Francois Hougaard over Jongi Nokwe, Lionel Mapoe over an off-form Bryan Habana, a very brave call in saying Ashley Johnson is currently better than Pierre Spies and finally saying Richard Strauss is better than Chilliboy Ralapele.
It is debatable who is better between Jaco Pretorius and Corne Uys.
My feeling is that the Cheetahs will dominate the scrum-battle and will make very influencial ruck and maul turn-overs through Heinrich Brüssouw. The Bulls will have line-out domination with their supremo, Victor Matfield and Dewalt Potgieter will play a blinder AGAIN.
The Cheetahs have speed to burn on the 2 wings, but the nuggety Francois Hougaard makes up in heart and determination where others fail.
At No 8 Ashley Johnson is in supreme form and Pierre Spies will have to pull out all the stops to equal him.
At No 9 Fourie du Preez shades anybody in the world at this stage, he is a masterful tactitian, the Bulls have a huge advantage here.
At Fly Half we have the 2 best Fly Halves in the Country with Morné Steyn being Mr Fantastic all season and there is no reason to think that he will not continue to set the world alight and keep the score-board ticking. Jacques-Louis Potgieter might be slightly behind Morné in the department of kicking for posts, but he is a very attacking and abrasive Fly Half.

Ek kry eintlik ouens jammer wat nie drink en nie met ‘n babbelas opstaan nie. I mean, dis die beste wat hulle gaan voel die hele dag lank!
Ek reken jy sit die pot so effe mis met jou senter teorie.
OVS senters is beter kombinasie as die Flou Bul kombinasie.
Sou se my rangorde as individuale spelers is iets soos Meisiekind, die Riversdaller, Pretoors en Uys.
OVS’sers egter click goed saam.
Ek reken dis moeilik om saam meisiekind senter te speel, al is hy bleddie goed.
Hy soek ‘n skeppende senter saam hom en is nie ‘n natuurlike leier nie. Dis hoekom bv ‘n Jaques Fourie hom uitstekend sal pas om saam te speel as ‘n kombinasie.
