It is that time of the year again when nominations for Player Awards is made. The year has flown, the stars have shone.

The Vodacom Bulls’ Pierre Spies, Fourie du Preez, Morne Steyn and Wynand Olivier have been nominated for the Vodacom Super 14 Player of the Year award that will be presented at the annual SA Rugby Player of the Year Awards which will take place at a glittering banquet at Vodaworld, Midrand, on Monday, November 2.
Apart from these four superstars the Vodacom Cheetahs’ Heinrich Brussow is the only other player that has been nominated for the prestigious award.
In the category for the Vodacom Cup Player of the Year the Blue Bulls’ young flyhalf Francois Brummer will be up against Cecil Afrika (Griffons) as well as the GWK Griquas’ Naas Olivier, Riaan Viljoen and Jonathan Mokoena.
SA Rugby has added major new awards with the Castle South Africa 2009 British & Irish Lions Provincial Player and the Castle South Africa 2009 British & Irish Lions Test Player to complement the 38-year-old Player of the Year Award and other more modern additions such as the Players’ Player of the Year.

Coca-Cola Craven Week Player of the Tournament,
Marriott Referee Award,
Women’s Achiever of the Year,
SAA Club Championship Player of the Tournament,
SA U20 Player of the Year,
Springbok Sevens Player of the Year

It would have to be a Bulls player for SA Super 14 Player of the year, Cheetahs performed too poorly in the Super 14.
My Pick would be Morne Steyn.
Brussouw however could easily be a serious contender for rookie of the year, seeing as last year’s EOY Tour would fall within this year’s awards as well, if I’m correct.
