Blue Bulls penalty in front, deep inside the 22…

    Kicked to the corner.

  • 32

Try Blue Bulls, Jaco Visagie… mauled over!

6 or 7 Penalties already against the Blue Bulls… most of them from their dismal scrumming.

Hi Gbs not sounding good a repeat of last weekend, different tight head pop today but still struggling so probably a good example of a scrum being an 8 player job. Having a strong front row is a start but if the ones pushing from behind them are not strong or cohesive it’s a problem. Which lock is on the tighthead side? If it’s Nortje maybe he is a bit light and inexperienced.

  • 34

    Blue Bulls 12 / 22 Free State

  • 35

22m Drop out by the Blue Bulls after a woer-woer drop attempt by Louis Fouché

  • 37

Will be interesting to see how Free State do as looking at the line-up today it is pretty much their Pro14 Cheetahs team. They struggled in the last Pro14 so their performance may be some indicator of comparison between the 2 competitions albeit it’s a bit of a watered down Currie Cup

    33 @ Bullscot:
    True…

But 2 of the scrum penalties have been for the tighthead losing the bind or collapsing… which in my mind goes exclusively against the tighthead.

I think the Free State have gained a lot of experience scrumming against Northern Hemisphere scrums… where scrumming is very, very strong.

Yeah, all the Springboks out of the Currie Cup…

And of course the Blue Bulls have lost their 2 prime locks as a result, plus a hooker and both Trevor Nyakane and Lizo Gqoboka as well as Duane Vermeulen at No 8… as well as Hanro Liebenberg who has gone to greener pastures.

So, it is in all fairness a totally 2nd string forwards pack.

… and that 2nd string pack now clearly shows…

  • 40

Must say, the Free State looked calm and collected…

  • 42

High tackle on Benhard Janse van Rensburg… and then marched 10m more.

  • 43

Wayward Free State lineout throw… Blue Bulls pounce on it…

  • 44

    @ grootblousmile:
Sounds like he is struggling but Herbst played a lot of games for Ulster so should also have learnt from his time there. Maybe he is just tired hasn’t had much paternity leave. Who knows what goes on in the front row it’s a dark smelly place have never been to Happy

  • 45

Free State lineout deep in their own 22.

As a youngster, in Primary School, I played prop and hooker… but I was always light as a prop or frontrower, so I moved to the side of the scrum at flank… and openside flank suited me down to a tee…

  • 47

3 Penalty opoortunities for the Blue Bulls… they opt for the one closest to the touchline, so thy can pop it into the corner…

  • 48

Papier knocks… Free State put the Blue Bulls under immense pressure.

  • 49

Wiehahn Herbst with a cut on the top of his head… vaseline at work…

  • 50

Free State scrum penalty advantage… Tian Meyer with a massive break… and suddenly the Blue Bulls are 5m from their own line.

    Free State lineout, 5m out.

  • 51

Try Louis Fouché, Free State… against the base of the post.

  • 54

Talking about Springboks why is Ox Nche not with the Boks? Good player. There are a few other Cheetahs who could also at least have been given a chance this Rugby Championship to show their worth. Pokomela is one and would also like to see Small Smith picked in his initial position of centre. It seems they are being snubbed for playing Pro14 yet at same time other overseas players are picked

  • 55

    Blue Bulls 12 / 29 Free State

  • 56

    Try Rosko Specman, Blue Bulls!

  • 57

    Blue Bulls 17 / 29 Free State

  • 58

Really time to replace Manie Libbok… a liability on defence and not good at posts…

I think the Cheetahs disasterous Guinness PRO14 season counted against all the Cheetahs players.

Try Jasper Wiese, Free State… mauled over.
