The Blue Bulls Company (Pty) Ltd is also pleased to announce the appointment of Nollis Marais as new head coach of the Vodacom Blue Bulls for the 2015 ABSA Currie Cup season with immediate effect.

The 43-year old Marais said of his appointment: “This is a dream come true for me and something I have always wanted to do and worked towards in the various Blue Bulls structures. I would like to thank John Newbury, Chairman of the Board as well as other directors, the BBRU and president Gert Wessels and also the BBC and CEO, Barend van Graan for their confidence in me to take over this important position. I would also like to thank Frans Ludeke, Johann van Graan and Heyneke Meyer who served as mentors to me.”

Marais, an accredited IRB (World Rugby) level 3 coach, has been involved with coaching at all levels in the union, starting his coaching career way back in 2003 as Under 15 coach of Overkruin High School in Pretoria. He has progressed through the ranks and in recent years coached UP-Tuks in the Varsity Cup (2010 – 2015), the Vodacom Blue Bulls Under 21’s (2011 – 2015) and the Vodacom Blue Bulls Vodacom Cup team (2013 – 2015), winning the Varsity Cup and ABSA Under 21 Provincial Championship on his way to becoming the new Currie Cup coach.

“We will have a change in approach in the way we do things and play the game and I am excited about the mixture of talent we have between the youngsters in our system and the senior players. I have worked with all but 5 of the players in our squad before, so I’m very keen to continue in my efforts to assist them in becoming the best players they can be.”

Marais called on the Blue Bulls supporters and sponsors to rally behind the team. “Every player and member of management will leave nothing out there on the field in our effort to make you proud of us. We can only succeed with all your support, but will earn it the hard way, by delivering on the field,” Marais said.

A move in the right direction to axe Ludeke… and maybe even to appoint Nollis Marais for the Currie Cup only.

The fact that they have not made clear whether Ludeke will be the Director of Rugby or not, is troublesome. If you clean up, you do it properly or you leave it in total, otherwise you are bound to leave some gunk behind!

The Fact that CEO Barend van Graan’s tenure has been extended to January 2019 is ridiculous!

So i assume vic is definately going to the wc? 😆

Nolis marais is probably the better option at this stage… Really worried about the support staff though… Is wessel roux seriously still the scrum coach? Ludekrous.

Also not happy with the dictatorship in the board room… Those guys must be getting insane bonuses, from all the profits of letting every single established player go over the last 5 years. Freeing up a lot of money.

What I can’t understand is why the Bulls can’t contract players like other unions

The Stormers and Sharks had press releases outlining player movements and new additions

The Bulls keep telling us about all the players leaving but no new players?

With all the money they will save on salaries they could afford to buy us at least a lock or two and a good scrumhalf

    Cheers Frans.

I think this was long overdue. His inability to adapt was his downfall. Also his trust in certain assistant coaches and players.

    Lets not forget his successes.

2 Super Rugby titles. This is some of my greatest super rugby memories. In 2009, some of my family flew in from OZ just for the final. I had to scramble to get extra tickets. End up paying a ridicules price for the extra tickets. But it was worth every cent. What a great game.

Also 2010 in Orlando. What a great experience that was. My ears rang for 2 days after, but damn it was good. Parked in somebodies back yard. We were parked in for a few hours, so we had to stay and join the after party. Was great fun.

I thank him for this memories and wish him well for the future.

It is time for Barend to also move on.

The junior Boks playing in the WC are packed full of Bulls players plus the U21 side that won the CC.

It’s time for the Bulls to invest in developing the players that they do have and get rid of the passengers.

Many of them are leaving in any event.

There is a challenge in the front row but thats not new. The rest of the squad are fine, they just have to train and get back the team gees.

Or not, I guess it’s all the same to me…..

“End up paying a ridicules price for the extra tickets.”

I think you meant Ludekeles Prices.
