    Brok Harris to captain WP

Cape Town – Experienced prop Brok Harris will captain Western Province in their final league match of the 2014 Currie Cup season – against the Sharks at Newlands on Saturday (kick-off 17:05).

Western Province have already qualified for a home semi-final, by virtue of their top of the log finish with a game in hand, and head coach Allister Coetzee has handed starts to captain Harris, fit-again Springbok hooker Tiaan Liebenberg and flyhalf Kurt Coleman, who will make his 50th appearance for WP.

Inside centre Jaco Taute was not considered for selection due to a rib injury, with Michael van der Spuy and Pat Howard combining at centre this week.

Wings EW Viljoen and Devon Williams will get their first taste of Currie Cup action, whilst forwards Oli Kebble (prop) and Jurie van Vuuren (lock) will earn first-ever starts at this level after impressing off the bench last weekend.

Forwards Justin Ackerman (prop), Gavin Annandale (lock/flank) and Patrick O’Brien (loose forward) are all in line to make their first-ever Currie Cup appearances from the bench, along with utility back Chevandre van Schoor.

A familiar face on the bench this week is that of former Western Province captain Anton van Zyl, who joins the match-day squad following injuries to first-choice locks Jean Kleyn and Ruan Botha.

“It’s a great opportunity to expand the capacity of our squad,” Coetzee said at Thursday’s team announcement.

“I’d love to be in the position to have some selection headaches for the semi-final after a big game like this against the Sharks who have everything to play for and will create just the pressure-filled environment needed to test those players coming into this side this week.”

Coetzee is expecting a tough match on Saturday, as the Sharks head to Newlands knowing that a win could put them in line for a home semi-final.

He told the WP Rugby website: “The Sharks are starting to fire at the right time, they’re starting to play some good rugby and there’s a big belief in the side. They’re a formidable team and will present a huge challenge (for us).”

    Congratulations Brok…!! Approve

    Congratulations Brok…!!

A PW captain that credits the opposing team? Amazed
    Smile

  • 8

    @ MacroBlouBul:
The PW coach always credits the opposition, it’s the new captain that doesn’t.
Maybe Brock will credit the Sharks after the match, especially if the score is PW 6/54 Sharks?

    6 @ MacroBlouBul:
Sy vakansies is mos ‘n maand lank op ‘n slag…

Snaaks, ek het noggie van die broer verneem sedert hy op vakansie is nie.

Hy gallavant seker oral in Manakwaland en die Weskus rond….

  • 10

    @ nortie:
oops so none of the CC captains do 😉

Brock will just say they did not play well enough to win. 😆

  • 11

    @ grootblousmile:
Ja dis maar anders sonder Oom Piet, sal seker binnekort kom groet.

  • 12

    @ MacroBlouBul:
    Only Jean
And whoever is captain of the Kings on any given day 😀
They are experts at the art of giving “the losing captain’s speech”
They practice the speech making more than they practice their skills

  • 13

    11 @ MacroBlouBul:
Ou Pieta is ‘n goeie ou… my groot, groot tjom daai!

Ons is soos karperde… nie dat julle jonges sal weet wat is karperde nie, so kom ons maak die maar soos Brannas en Coke… hehehe

    @ grootblousmile:

“The whinge you had… well… the less said about it, the better!”

    Sorry groot,
I didn’t realise, offering a differing opinion from the Great Unwashed was a whinge.

I was only agreeing with Nick Mallet.
Or is Nick a whinger as well?

    And Nama, and Ashley…………………………………etc,etc,

    Oh and Jonny Kaplan.
    Another whinger.

And they were NOT even on the losing side.

    As I stated:
    -The best Team won.
-Yes it was a penalty offence.
-Yes it was a great kick.

But life ain’t quite that simple……………………… is it.

  • 15

I’ve always been a great believer in:
“If you have something to say…………………………………say it”.
    😉

  • 16

Just a correction to the article. It should read:

“Inside centre Jaco Taute was not considered for selection because he is an irresponsible pisshead who can’t hold his liquor and becomes an obnoxious pain in the rectum and breaks stuff that doesn’t belong to him, hence Michael van der Spuy and Pat Howard combining at centre this week.”

  • 17

    @ Scrumdown:
    Pat Howard??

The Aussie Child Star of the 80’s?

    Surely not.

  • 18

    17 @ cane:
    Somehow doubt it.

I see he was born in Pietermaritaburg in Natal, so most likely a product of some sugar baron’s incestuous relationship with a family member.

  • 19

    14 & 15 @ cane:
Did you even bother to read the contents of the comments which followed your diatribe?

Fact is, there was ONE REPLAY, in the normal course of showing replays during stoppages in the match, before the referee was alerted and asked for more Replays to adjudicate the incident…

Every stadium and Every broadcaster shows replays of play that they deem exciting / foul play picked up / tries scored, so it is ludicrous to describe the TV Producer as unduly influencing the outcome. It happens with Every broadcasted game… every single one!

Read again… ONE SOLITARY REPLAY, in the normal course… thereafter the Referee REQUESTED more Replays and it was shown repeatedly – in order to adjudicate the incident.

If you do not believe me, go watch the Video Clip MacroBull was so kind as to put up… and judge again.

You had a pity party early on that thread and yes it was rather embarrassing… and yes you may make embarrassing comments, you have that right to do so.

Did not expect it from an old steer like you though.. not by a long shot!

  • 20

    @ grootblousmile:

“and yes you may make embarrassing comments, you have that right to do so.”

    Good.

Because from the home of Suzie and Pieterman van Zyl, this is another in a long line of a what is considerablely worse than diatribe.

  • 21

    @ Scrumdown:
Sorry Scrumdown just a fluke of the same name, different Dude.

  • 22

    @ cane:

    Considerably WORSE.

  • 23

    @ cane:
    It is just awful Overjoy

  • 24

    20 @ cane:
    Phweeeew…

    Fokkie Toggie…

OK bro, we know you do not take kindly to the incident. You’ve made it abundantly clear.

Hey, I have to be off soon, have to go demo a website I designed to a client for final signing off, before I get paid… and the tills have to keep rolling!

Have a nice one Mainstay Cane!

    Cheers

    Cheers

    Hmmm.

I think I may partake of a few Cane & Cream Soda’s this afternoon.

Will be a nice break from the Captain!

  • 27

    @ cane:
Have a good weekend caner, nearly closing time. ➡

  • 28

    @ Scrumdown:

Knock back a couple of Sour Canes.
I’m told they are good for the constitution.

    😉

Everybody knows that the dice were loaded
Everybody rolls with their fingers crossed
Everybody knows that the game is over
Everybody knows the good guys lost.

Everybody knows the match was fixed
Everybody knows that the captain lied
    Everybody got this broken feeling
Like their father or their dog just died
    Everybody knows, everybody knows
    That’s how it goes
    Everybody knows .

    @ MacroBlouBul:

    Closing Time…………………………………………..another great song Macro.
