JP Pietersen

RWC winning back JP Pietersen will replace injured scrumhalf Ruan Pienaar for home Rugby Championship Tests against Australia and New Zealand, it was announced on Sunday.

Pietersen, who can operate on the right wing or at outside centre, has been playing in Japan and was unavailable for the first four southern hemisphere championship matches.

“JP has always been part of our plans and did very well in June playing at outside centre,” Springbok coach Heyneke Meyer said in a statement.

“We already have two scrumhalves in Francois Hougaard and Cobus Reinach and decided it would be better to bring in an outside back.”

Pienaar retired hurt during a 14-10 defeat by New Zealand in Wellington on Saturday and a scan on Monday will determine the extent of his knee ligament injury.

Pietersen, who played on the right wing when South Africa defeated England 15-6 to win the 2007 World Cup, joins a 30-man squad in Cape Town on Sunday next week.

The Springboks face the Wallabies at Newlands in Cape Town on 27 September and the All Blacks at Ellis Park in Johannesburg on 4 October.

Defending champions New Zealand top the table with 16 points, South Africa and Australia have 10 each and Argentina three.

Can’t remember a Bok flyhalf throwing an inside pass…

I do not mind Juan’s celebrations.
It could have been much worse

    Henry Honeyballs was the last.

    @ Stormersboy:

Ja Heineken must be kicking himself for dropping the lad against the Wallabies.

If I ever saw that happening on a rugby field, I’d ask for a green bucket.

It shows that white men can’t dance.

Peter Croach is actually a funny man. When asked on TV what he would be if he wasn’t a soccer star he replied with a straight face ..”a virgin”.

One of the funniest one liners in sports history imo.

Isn’t he married to some stunning model?

    @ robzim:

In soccer he obviously saw friends with benefits.

    Thanks

i’m with rob on this… think the scoring celebrations are quite cool and fun… give the games some lighter moments…

as long as they don’t “fleck” their celebrations up before they’ve actually scored… πŸ˜† cheslin nearly spoiled lionel’s example of premature expectation…!! πŸ˜‰

enjoy juan’s moves… and also trevor and raymond’s synced efforts… they could enter strictly come dancing together…

be honest now guys… you just dont like it… cause you can’t do it…!! or look stoopid trying to… πŸ˜‰ πŸ˜†

    @ ufo:

    hahaha @ premature expectation

Watched the game again and realised that if we can switch between the accurate kick ‘n chase game and the attacking ball in hand stuff, at will, we will be unstoppable.

I don’t believe that the AB’s had an off day and that’s why they weren’t fluent on attack. They were visibly rattled after Cornal’s try.

    76 @ Jeraldjay:

yeah jj… reckon you’re spot on bud… that try spooked ’em… and shut the crowd up too… and sent richie and kieran into overdrive bending the ref’s ear… i thought only the captain was supposed to question the ref… πŸ™„

now if we can just “execute” like that consistently…!

    @ ufo:
    Just that flippin scrummie conundrum.

I think Reinach is the solution. Always rated him. But HM is convinced FDP is the answer.

  • 79

    @ Jeraldjay:

yeah… scrumhalf is our achilles tendon at the moment…! πŸ˜‰

i agree with heyneke though… when fit… fourie brings a level of calm and decisiveness that none of the others seem capable of… i really hope he is available for the WC… or that one of the others really puts up their hand and can’t be ignored…

reinach is really good no doubt… but i’m not convinced he is the answer after fourie at the moment…
but then i’m not really convinced by any scrummies at the moment… so yeah… a major conundrum in my book too…

  • 80

ironically, ruan has had a couple of very good games… and… much as i’ve criticised him… i’d take it all back if he was fit…!!

  • 81

I know our beloved leader (i.e. GBS) doesn’t rate him, but I think he did very well on Saturday for the time he was on the field.

  • 82

    81 @ GoBokkeAndIreland:

indeed gb&i… credit where it’s due… he’s been pretty damn good over this rc… imo…

  • 83

    @ ufo: @82
I know it’s a bit late, but i thought the game was really good on Saturday. A few tweaks and we could be giving the AB’s a good run for their money every time we played them.

  • 84

    83 @ GoBokkeAndIreland:

absolutely… and we could’ve won it at the death too… makes a change for us to be making all the running in the dying minutes and the ABs defending… usually the other way around… (i think norts said that earlier… or someone else… but a really good comment…) even though we lost… it showed we really are definitely heading in the right direction…

  • 85

    @ ufo: @84
Now, my question is, why didn’t we play the same way against Australia? I think we could’ve beaten them easily if we’d played the same style we played on Saturday!

  • 86

    85 @ GoBokkeAndIreland:

i believe gunther said it all @ 65…

  • 87

    @ ufo: @86
Ah, sorry, just logged on now, busy catching up. Usually Gunther is just busy abusing our NZ mates . . .
