News from the Bulls camp, prior to joining Super Rugby action again after the June Test break has not been so good!

Jacques du Plessis, Blindside flank of the Bulls broke his jaw in the warm-up match over the weekend against namibia and is set to miss the rest of the Bulls Super Rugby campaign.

In addition, the Bulls have confirmed that lock Paul Willemse, has signed a 2-year deal with French Club, Grenoble and they have also confirmed that the Bulls kicking consultant, Vlok Cilliers will join the WP as from July 2014.

Jacques du Plessis:

Promising Bulls loose forward Jacques du Plessis will be sidelined for an extended period after breaking his jaw against Namibia at the weekend.

Du Plessis left the field in the 11th minute of the match played in Windhoek on Saturday.

He underwent an operation on Sunday and is likely to miss the rest of the Bulls’ Super Rugby campaign, as well as the start of the Blue Bulls’ Currie Cup campaign.

After a strong start by the Namibians, the Bulls recovered to win 34-13.

Jacques-Louis Potgieter kept the Bulls in the hunt with two penalties in the first half, which saw the teams go into the break level at 6-all.

Travis Ismaiel also left the field in the second half with a fractured finger.

The Namibians started the second half with a bit of a bang on got over the line after seven minutes.

Bulls captain Jono Ross replied two minutes later with hard fought try of his own as the Bulls eventually found their groove. A leaping Bjorn Basson, who finished the move it style, confidentially gathered an innovative cross-kick from Potgieter to give the Bulls the ascendency.

With five minutes remaining, William Small Smith was at the receiving end of some slick backline handling, and dived over under the posts.

Young Burger Odendaal capped off the day with the final try in the 79th minute. Potgieter also added two more penalties in the second period.

This result came after a young 3rd-string Blue Bulls side came unstuck badly against the Kings in Port Elizabeth on Friday night, losing 66-28.

Paul Willemse:

The Blue Bulls Company (Pty) Ltd would like to confirm the departure of Vodacom Bulls and Vodacom Blue Bulls lock Paul Willemse to France.

The 22 year old player will join French club Grenoble after the Absa Currie Cup competition on a two year deal.

According to the BBC High Performance Manager, Xander Janse van Rensburg, it is becoming increasingly difficult to hold on to players and to compete with overseas clubs.

“We tried our utmost best to retain the services of Paul, It is however very concerning that we are losing players at a younger and younger age to the overseas market. In Paul’s case, we are talking about a massive offer to the player and one that is very hard to say no to. We certainly cannot blame Paul for accepting such a lucrative offer, but even if we wanted to, we could not match it as this is one of the biggest offers I have seen for a player of his age.”

Willemse plans to return to South Africa in two years’ time to make a bid for the Springboks jersey and could well be back in Vodacom Bulls colours then.

“Paul feels that he is not currently in the mix for Springbok selection and have a number of locks ahead of him in the line-up, so wants to add a different element to his game by playing in the French Top 14,game time in France will see him improve as a player and we can reap the benefits of that upon his return.” Janse van Rensburg said.

Vlok Cilliers:

The Blue Bulls Company (Pty) Ltd has confirmed that Vodacom Bulls and Vodacom Blue Bulls kicking consultant Vlok Cilliers will take up an offer from the Western Province Rugby Union.  He will start at Newlands in July 2014.

Cilliers was utilised as kicking consultant to the Vodacom Bulls as well as the Vodacom Blue Bulls since 2013. The BBC has however, decided to agree to his request and grant him the opportunity to take up the offer from WP.

“We understand Vlok’s decision that it is a good time for him to move on in his career and wish him well. This will also afford us the opportunity to stimulate our current environment with some new ideas” Xander Janse van Rensburg, High Performance Manager at the BBC said.

“We will be utilising the services of Louis Koen at the SARU Mobi-Unit and also have former Springbok and Vodacom Bulls Super Rugby winner Derick Hougaard at Loftus as a kicking consultant.”

Selfde ding by ding Bokke.

Ek wonder soms hoe oorleef dorpies soos Carnarvon, Williston, Van Wyks Vlei, Loxton ens.

Bwahahaha. Easy to do. Play a “walking only” course. Old Puma’s knees are so shot he won’t make the last 5 holes and you can claim all of the winnings!

So, uiteindelik betaal belastingbetalers grotendeels vir die hele lotjie.

He can use a golfcart plus I will give him 3 mulligans plus on two par 3’s I will allow him to throw his ball from the teebox and let him play his first shot from where the ball ends up landing.

    @ Fern:6

    10 @ Fern:
Can I join the group under the same conditions?

  • 13

    @ Scrumdown:
No problem but you will have to throw underhand and with no run up allowed.

  • 14

    kry vir naka as afrigter

My Taylormade usually is “underhand” at the bottom of the swing. I suppose that qualifies.

Is it ok to wear a Lions shirt?

    Time to hit the road.

Suspensionville (Springs (or Boing City RSA)) and Vereeniging call.

    Later all.

    @ Scrumdown:
If you use a golf glove when playing I will have to throw in 1 ladies tee aswell.I don’t mind guys playing with a glove just as long as it matches their handbags and Volvik golf balls.
    What a naff.
