Jake WhiteCell C SharksSharks coach Jake White believes 4 wins from 4 on their Australasian tour is a realistic goal to aim for.

White’s charges will be eager to get back to winning ways when they face the Melbourne Rebels on Friday, especially after coming badly unstuck in their last game – a 34-18 home loss to the Highlanders.

The Sharks will also face the Brumbies, Crusaders and Blues on tour and White wants to return home with four victories.

“If I don’t believe we can do that, then I’m wasting my time,” White was quoted as saying.

“I read somewhere that we have never beaten the Crusaders in Canterbury. The nice thing about that is it’s going to happen.

“So why can’t it be this year?” asked White.

“We prepare to win every game, but it’s all relative. If we have a full-strength team, and are playing well, I think we can beat anyone. Once you go into a tour thinking, ‘If we win here, and lose that one’, you end up losing everything.”

White also believes his exposure to trans-Tasman rugby during his tenure as coach of the Brumbies will aid the Sharks.

He said he has gained insight on how they prepare for games over there which will stand his team in good stead.

Despite losing to the Highlanders last week, the Sharks are still at the top of the overall Super Rugby log with 7 wins from 9 outings, leading the Brumbies by 1 Log point.

For someone who himself has admitted that the Aussies are more clever that the Saffas, he certainly does prove his own point by making such stupid comments even before their first game.
No team talk required for the opponents, just put a newspaper clipping of a Jake soundbite up on the wall

How many wins did Jake register against the Ab’s when he was Bokke coach?

  • 3

    2 @ NZINCHINA:
Does it matter at this juncture?

  • 4

    @ grootblousmile:

Jake likes to talk a big story and break contracts.

  • 5

“If we have a full-strength team”
    “and are playing well”
Too be fair, he is giving himself a couple of outs if his team get klapped.
Always good to have some excuses to fall back on.
    @NZinChina
Too be fair, the Stormers only lost by 1 point against the Crusaders in Christchurch, so it stands to reason that if our worst team can come so close, our flagship side should win at a canter. Jake has a point

The snake gets 2 wins if he’s lucky, from memory he won twice against the Ab’s as well.

  • 7

    4 @ NZINCHINA:
    Yip, Jake is a blabbermouth!

  • 8

The snake knows he won’t win 4 from 4, he’s been reading too many Kevin Trudeau books.

  • 9

    @ NZINCHINA:
I think he won 3 home tests 2004-2006

    @ nortierd:
Realistically he should get a 1:3 tour, JW can’t expect NZ/OZ referees’ ‘cooperation’, the ANZAC Teams don’t fancy to travel to Durban for the P/O and will work hard to crack the Sharks with their now patented Counter Attack aimed at the Sharks Back Three?!
It worked for the Landers at Durban under Peyper, it has a good probability to work down under too

Jake White is a great motivator – of that there is no doubt. He believes in himself and he believes in his players.

But Jake White is also “dial a quote.” There are plenty of those. Unfortunately, it is the latter for which he is remembered. The times when he shoots himself in the foot.

    @ Hondo:

just had a look he was 3 from 9, quite respectable compared to Meyer

  • 12

    @ Hondo:

What’s happened to your old mate JPP, it was only a few months back Ranger was telling us he was the best back in world rugby?

  • 13

    @ 2 and 3

It matters greatly when you’re an AB supporter.

  • 14

    @Hondo
No Peyper in their pocket, no penalties and cards for the opposition if they just look funny at the Sharks.
I will even wager that Frans has a yellow card in his future the next 4 weeks, let him try sling players out of frustration in front of their refs.
And I’m sure the Anzac refs can’t wait for the free lectures on scrumming and the rules of rugby by Jannie and Bissie. They will be thrilled to be schooled by such legends of the game.
Fun and games coming up the next month, excuses will range from flight socks to injuries

    > @ IAAS:

Hello mate, I know you guys gave up on the whole AB/Bokke win loss/ ratio as being a yardstick of where it’s at but we love the ratio and still swear by it. It used to be popular in the republic as well.

  • 16

Funny guy, what do you make of the Bulls this season, back to the dark old days of the wooden spoon or will the home town refs save them again?

  • 17

    @ NZINCHINA:

Who says we’ve given up – there’s no such thing – we just have to hardenthefuckup and play catch up. 🙄

  • 18

    @ IAAS:

Good to hear, how do you see things panning out this year? I’m excited by what I see coming through in black, 13 looks sorted now, the only weakness being at 2 where I see you guys having a real advantage.

  • 19

Speaking of blabber mouths China finished disappearing up his own arsehole of the the Bulls took the Blues again?

Yeah, Adriaan Strauss is in a class of his own

    @ gunther:

Hello funny guy, yes a very good win for the Bulls. My Blues aren’t much chop again this year unfortunately, Bulls to return home and with a bit of help from the 16th man make the playoffs?

  • 22

    @ nortierd:

Bissy took the Ab’s apart at the garden of Eden last year and then completely missed the rematch at Ellis.

Didn’t he also almost miss most of the Eden Park game?

  • 24

    @ NZINCHINA:

That’s not what you were saying before the game blabber mouth?

  • 25

    @ nortierd:

was it 10 or 20 I can’t remember but I do remember the KEOlings telling us what he was going to do at Ellis park for the rematch, you have a clear advantage at 2 fortunately that’s the only position

  • 26

    @NzinC
    Dane Coles

  • 27

    @ gunther:

funny guy look at Jake, he’s telling us he’ll get 4 from 4 and Meyer will also be thinking he takes the Ab’s twice this year, we all back our team and sometimes we get it wrong, it was a very good victory for your Bulls

  • 28

Then you farked off quite sharpish after half time with your tail between your legs for a change?

  • 29

    @ nortierd:

too small to be an effective scummager against the bigger packs but can still prodcue the million passes on full time

  • 30

    @ gunther:

I think I said ” game over and goodnight” it was 3 am my friend next time i’ll hang around….
