Sherylle CalderDr. Sherylle Calder, the world-renowned Visual Skills and Performance Specialist joins the Cell C Sharks as a consultant, on a two-year contract, effective immediately.

“My association with Sherylle dates back to my earlier coach roles and I look forward to working with her again”, added White.

Good signing by the Cell C Sharks.

They are certainly leaving no stone unturned to get the title this year.

  • 2

Yes I was thinking that they are doing “all the right things” this year.

She should be contracted to the national squad and be working with all the top SA Super Rugby Franchises. Our skills could use some work!

Yip, general SA skills should improve.

Imagine if Sherylle Calder was permanently appointed by SARU, and she could work with every South African team, from SA Schools side, to the Junior Springboks, to the SA Currie Cup and Super Rugby Unions and franchises and ultimately directly with the Springboks and Blitzbokke.

All of SA Rugby would reap the benefits, not just a few.

    @ grootblousmile:
Yes I recall the role that she played in Bryan Habanna’s growth, amazing that P Divvy discarded her

    4 @ Stormersboy:
I cannot imgine that her consultancy roll at the Sharks is a fulltime job for her, South Africa would have been better served if her influence and expertise could have been spread much wider.

    @ grootblousmile:
Agreed. There is a doc who is a good mate of mine, Costa Kapnius, who does a lot of work with the Indian Olympic team ans has worked with the Sharks before, as well as working under that Indian Tycoon who owns the IPL team that Sachin Tendulkar used to play for. He used to fly Costa out to India for weeks at a time to work on Sachin.

He uses a technique called muscle activation or something like that. Been known to enhance muscle performance significantly, especially post injury.

That’s the sort of technology that should be adopted more widely.

    Check out this link:

He also did a lot of work with the Indian Olympic squad.

Sharks are doing everything possible, makes it so much better for us to look forward to hearing what excuses they will be concocting when they choke again.
    Happy

    @ grootblousmile:
Yes they get a consistent, measurable performance increase post injury with this technique, compared with normal rehab that is typically done.

You think it would help for my golf game?

Here’s one for a Chappies bubblegum did you know; Sheryl Calder is the only person to have won two Rugby World Cups in a row – in 2003 with England and 2007 with the Boks. Now there’s a good question for a pub quiz.

Jake is putting his old team back together. Him, Smit, Calder, Bismark.
I hope that it all works out for them.

  • 14

    @ grootblousmile:
GBS, NOTHING will help your golf game. Overjoy

  • 15

    Hmmmmm.

Seems like the good lady is following Jake around like a love sick puppy.

Is there something we’re all missing here.

    14 @ Scrumdown:
    Grrrrrrrrrr,

My Moer and Soek game is all due to a lack of peripheral vision and the people I play with!

    @ grootblousmile:
That is an evil game. The only thing that will improve my game is if a pro golfer plays in my place.

  • 18

    17 @ Lion4ever:
Hehehehe, golf is an evil game indeed!

  • 19

    @ Stormersboy:

You can see the a lot of rugby players doing muscle activation drills on the field. Best example was Bryan Habana at the 2007 world cup semi against Argentina. There the camera was focused on him while he was doing it.

    @ leon:
Yes it has become very popular the past years. I was watching the start of the Cape Epic a couple of years ago and all the pros were doing it. It’s the exception that don’t in fact.

Costa was doing it with the Sharks years ago, before it became popular.

I like the Sharks attitude so far this year – old knobbly knees must be in his element, pity we don’t see him any more.
