SharksSA Rugby reports that Sharks prop Dale Chadwick is the latest injury casualty. He has a stress fracture in his foot and will likely be out for between four and six weeks. This leaves the Sharks decidedly thin in front row depth.

With Bismarck du Plessis out until mid April at least, this is a huge setback for the Sharks. Allan Dell was immense in the Junior Springbok’s successful World Cup victory, but this is a huge step up for the young man. Sharks fans will be hoping that Beast Mtawarira doesn’t suffer any recurring heart problems.

Where is Sharky? Thought he was writing the articles for Sharks?

Anyhow here we go again….. 🙄 A injury to a player before the season even starts, much like last year only then we had our best loosehead out injured in Beast. So this is the only position that I have been worried about if we pick up a injury and we have already. Damn man, we should have tried to secure JC Van Rensburg on loan. Such a terrific player and imo he should be playing Super Rugby this year. Now we in a bit of trouble here, if Beast goes down with a injury then we in huge trouble.

Dn’t think JC would have bitten. He has publicly stated that he wants to help the Lions get back into Super Rugby.

  • 3

Let’s swop, an average Stomrer prop for an average Sharks hooker

  • 4

Well we will know what we have in the youngster Dell. The only way to tell what we have if he plays at this level. One just really never knows until they get a chance. The same happened for Lambie he got a chance against the Highlanders in 2010 and the rest is history. After that he was part of the starting team always unless injured. So who knows Dell could just grab his chance now, not to take Beast place but Chadwicks.

    2 @ Lion4ever:
I do know that, it was just wishful thinking.

  • 6

The team that has the least amount of injuries will be the team that has success in this tourney, unless they good depth with equal quality players in each position. Sharks lost 5 of their early games last year as we were without about 5 of our big name players. So hoping no more injuries from here onwards.

    @ Puma:
Sowy to hi-shark your news Bud, but saw that nobody was online, so I put my pride in my pocket, and informed the bloggers on RT about the news. Tounge-Out

  • 9

At least this isn’t a front line injury. It affects your depth for sure but not you starting 15. If you get another injury either pre-season or in the starting games then the problems look a lot worse.

  • 10

    @ Stormersboy:
You are right to a degree, but what about the bench. To take Beast/Jannie off after 20, can derail the work done in the first 60, or do you keep them on and play them into the ground?

Right now they only have Herbst, Dell and Redelinghuys as bench options.

  • 11

    @ Cheetah4eva:
That is true, especially with 2 front-rankers on the bench this year. Still, could be worse, they are in a better position that last year. More depth in key positions, no concerns in the lock dept, but yes, the front row is vulnerable and we haven’t even begun yet.

    4 @ Puma:
Lambie played prop for the Sharks against the Highlanders? Amazed

  • 13

Time for the Sharks to lure Ricky Januarie out of retirement.

  • 14

BigMac Ricky, what a haunted memory

  • 15

Lots of SA injuries, right accross all 5 Super Rugby franchises…

Sharks have a number of critical ones, so too the Bulls and Stormers.

Cheetahs also stilland specially in positions where it hurts.

The Southern Kings… well they have one or 2 injuries and the quality of their squad looks very lean, thin and iffy.

Been hectic here… and have not managed to spend quality time here for almost 2 days.

Between settling my son in for the place he will stay at whilst he is at Tuks and the new added burdens of the hatchling Funeral business, I’ve worked like a galley slave.

Attended the NFDA (National Funeral Directors Asscociation) general meeting this afternoon… and made an immediate impact… My partner and myself sat quietly listening until someone asked how it was going with the developmant of the Association’s website and the oke charged with the task was at a bit of a loss, it not being his forte in life.

I immediately saw the opportunity for a bit of ambush marketing and getting every funeral director in the country sit up and immediately take notice of our new venture, Integrity Funerals.

I stood up, introduced myself and my partner, said we had just bought the new place, named it as well as it’s location… and promptly offered to design and place the NFDA website up for them, at no cost except of course their web hosting costs.

I had evrybody’s attention immediately… and the thanks and promises of support from the organisation immediately… some coup I achieved and some immediate exposure for the new venture!

BonzaiGBS is now fully moved into his place in Pretoria, for his start at Tuks this year and at least that is behind me too now.

As we gear up to the start of some serious rugby, at least these things are now out of my way and / or moving allong nicely…. but damn man, I wish I was twins, maybe I could almost get through half my day or at least through half of what I need to do every day. Had very little sleep lately, firstly not getting the hours to do so and secondly lying awake planning hundreds of things simultaneously.

I need this weekend to come soon…

    Cheers

    @ grootblousmile:

  • 26

    @ Gena_ZA:
and then who is going to stand at 10 throwing those reverse torpedo passes? A flyhalf? Don’t be silly you will give the Stormers wings a heart attack receiving so much ball

  • 27

    @ Bliksem

Andries Bekker, he sommer hand is to the wings, just to keep changes to the minimum and preserve their sanity

    latest:

“Sharks boss John Plumtree has admitted concern over whether Springbok prop Tendai Mtawarira will be fit for the start of the season.

Matwarira was forced to return home from South Africa’s November tour after after mild heart palpitations in the build-up to the Test with Ireland.

The prop is suffering from an irregular intermittent heart problem and has undergone two procedures in recent years.

“We’ve lost Dale [Chadwick] for four to six weeks with a stress fracture in his foot,” said Plumtree to the Sharks’ website.

“We can’t afford to have any upsets with Beast [Mtawarira] now, we lost him for a long period last year.

“So there is a little bit of pressure there, but I am excited about Allan Dell, he’s a good young prop coming through our system.”

“I am well, so there is really no need to worry,” said Mtawarira.

“The procedure went well. It’s only a minor procedure and sometimes it needs to be done more than once to clear the palpitations. This is something that has happened to me before and that can be treated. Also, it’s not career-threatening.

“Sometimes I get quite excited before a game and that is probably what triggered it.”

not a nice scenario, Stormers had way worse first at fly-half, then at flank, sure the mighty Sharks can overcome this as well

    @ Gena_ZA:
Beast has done nothing in years. He stood and watch how the Greek pop a drop over.

  • 30

He is seen as a “rugby god” in some circles, I just smile
