Hopefully we don’t lose another wicket before end of play for the day

  • 302

    South Africa 309 & 145/3 (49.5 ov)

    England 315

South Africa lead by 139 runs with 7 wickets remaining
    STUMPS day 3

  • 303

Stumps Day 3. SA 145/3. Pretty slow day, good bowling on a flat deck from both sides has kept the run rate in check, and the odd dismissal, but all in all, a pretty slow one.

  • 304

SA need to bat for the whole day to make it absolutely safe, or if they can get a lead of about 360, declare, and then get England to try to go for it, as they have to win.
On the other hand, I am not sure why #1 test ranking is so important, I have never quite understood it, the most unlikely countries seem to hold the #1 spot from time to time. However, I do want us to beat the Poms, title or no title.

  • 305

Watched the U19 World Cup quarter final between SA and England this morning. Wow, we have some talented youngsters in South Africa. Prenelan Subrayen with his off break bowling took 4 for 24. Williams was on the button, and Savage was just savage (another Dale Steyn in the making!) Apart from Davies and Foakes (Eng) making 54 each, not on other Englishman made over 10 runs. The fielding was very tight, and I really like the look of de Kock behind the stumps, could well be the Proteas keeper of the future. Coetzee top scored with 67 off 83 balls, and all in all a great match. SA scored 244 in their innings all out, England – 141 all out.

Has set up an intriguing semi against Australia, who beat Bangladesh in their Quarter final.

Tony Greigs comments on KP from bbc.co.uk – Former England captain Tony Greig says Kevin Pietersen’s international career is over if allegations he texted tactical advice to South African players are proven to be true.
Pietersen is also alleged to have insulted his captain, Andrew Strauss, during the current Test series.
The row led to Pietersen being dropped for the third Test at Lord’s.
“If what is being written is correct, he’s absolute history, there’s no way he’ll ever play again,” said Greig.
Pietersen’s omission from the England squad for the final Test came after he hinted he could retire completely from international cricket.

  • 307

Really hope Amla gets a ton here, he deserves his name on the board for his efforts in this series

  • 308

Anderson and Finn are really working Steyn over this morning, but so far he’s handling them with relative ease, only been struck on the hand once this morning

  • 309

Hi JFK, if Amla gets his ton he’ll be on the honours board at Lord’s for the 2nd time. If I’m not mistaken he got one on the 2008 tour.

  • 310

Steyn now faced 38 balls, 35 of which, I reckon, were short balls. He has fended/ducked gallantly, and even got a 4 off one ball. Hope he has a long memory, and reminds a few of the Pom bowlers later on!

  • 311

@ fender:Hi Fender, yup, but this is the series that he should be remembered for

  • 312

Steyn finally succumbs to the barrage of short bowling from the poms. Caught Taylor, bowled Sally for 9 off 38 balls. SA 164/4

  • 313

Steyn did a good and brave job. Now there’s a Steyn we can all agree on, hehe!

  • 314

AB sets his stall out straight away, come down the wicket to Swann and carts him over mid on for 4

  • 315

And Jimmy Anderson has just dropped AB. Hmmmmm

  • 316

Former England and Wales Cricket Board chairman Lord MacLaurin’s thoughts on KP, as told to the BBC – “I think the Kevin Pietersen thing is pretty sad and pretty serious for cricket, the ECB are capable of dealing with the matter as they see fit,” Lord MacLaurin said.
“Nobody is bigger than the game and history is littered with sports stars who believe they are bigger than the game and business people too. If the reports in the papers are true…..I think Mr Pietersen will never play for England again.”

  • 317

Impossible to post here on my phone this am.

    Enjoy the cricket JFK.

  • 318

SA conitue on 183/4 after drinks. Swann staring to turn this ball now

  • 319

@ fender:You to, Fender – get a weekend secretary, it’s what we all need! perhaps we could borrow a couple of those Shark cheerleaders!

  • 321

Amla has quietly moved onto 87 without any expansive shots. Just 13 required.

  • 322

Conditions on the turn again, fast. Was a heat wave this morning, now clouds have come in, and may rain soon

  • 323

Getting dark out there now, Amla struggling with the light, hope his wicket doesn’t have to fall before the umpires agree

  • 324

And the rain comes down as the players come off. They will take an early lunch. I should think. SA 216/4

  • 325

Amla on 94, have a hearty lunch, mate, and get all that energy back for the next segment

  • 326

    325 @ Just For Kicks:
So far so good. Amla has held the fort here this morning. Hope the rain don’t spoil it for batting later. We need to bat the whole day today. A draw will be good enough for us to win this series. So here is hoping!

  • 327

    313 @ fender:
    Agree… hehehe. 🙂

  • 328

    305 @ BokJan For Kicks:
Never even knew it was on. When is that semi against Oz? Would like to watch. Our youngsters as you mention there sounded great.

  • 329

    328 @ PumaSpringbokJan:Hi, Puma, next match, Tueday, 21 Aug, 01:30 our time

  • 330

    316 @ Just For Kicks:
I think KP really wants to play for IPL. It seems its all about the money for him right now. I doubt he will worry that he will not play for England again. With KP it has always been about himself and no-one else. The reason many never liked him when he left here.If he wants he can come play for the Dolphins………hahahaha. His parents still live here. Seriously though, think he just wants to play IPL now. He has burnt his bridges to play for SA and now England too.
