Just when we thought that the Bulls would have played their last away game in PINK against the Highlanders the past weekend, they throw us a curveball…

Herewith the full Vodacom Bulls media release, dreadedly received just now:

In the fight against cancer, the Vodacom Bulls have teamed up with CANSA and will go pink against the DHL Stormers on 2 June at Loftus Versfeld.

Loftus Versfeld, the legendary fortress of the Blue Bulls Company will go pink when the home team play in their alternative very-berry coloured match kits in their Vodacom Super Rugby clash against the DHL Stormers. A sold out capacity crowd of 50 000 is a given which will most certainly bode well for campaign beneficiaries the Cancer Association of South Africa (CANSA).

With nearly 3 million supporters in South Africa, along with the highest viewership ratings for Super Rugby matches in 2012 among all the South African franchises, the Vodacom Bulls will be using their reach and influence to raise awareness and funds for their service to the public and all affected by cancer across the country.

Throughout the next two weeks, the Vodacom Bulls will be calling on all South Africans to make a donation, while ticket holders are encouraged to dress in pink to show their support for the “Get Your Pink On” campaign. Sponsors Vodacom will donate R20 000 for every try scored by the 2010 Super 14 champions, while CANSA will provide a mobile health unit for clinical breast exams and skin examinations within Loftus Versfeld on match day. Ticket holders can also get their heads sprayed in pink, blue, white and black (R20 per head) at six ‘Sprayathon” stations inside the stadium.

Barend van Graan, Blue Bulls Company CEO, is confident that their appeal to their valued supporters will be the catalyst in raising the bar of generosity in South Africa.

“Our fans have taken well to our very berry fuschia coloured kit. For this campaign we have embraced the colour pink as we join hands with CANSA and call on all our players, supporters, sponsors, suite owners and the general public to take part in the Get Your Pink On campaign and be part of this fundraising and awareness drive. With the largest fan base in South Africa, the highest viewership figures in Vodacom Super Rugby this season as well as a significant growth on our social media platforms, I am confident that the Get Your Pink On campaign will be a resounding success.”

The Vodacom Bulls versus the DHL Stormers match is regarded as the hottest ticket in town and fans are encouraged to get their hands on the remaining tickets on sale. To support CANSA in the fight against cancer, sms 30100 or go to www.getyourpinkon.co.za to make an online donation. Valid ticket holders stand a chance of winning one of seven Vodacom Bulls jerseys (numbers 16 to 22) at halftime to be presented by the Bulls babes to the “best dressed” supporters in the stadium. And, anyone who makes a donation will be in line to win one of 15 official jerseys autographed by the entire 2012 Vodacom Bulls team.

Sue Janse van Rensburg, CANSA CEO, expressed her gratitude to the Vodacom Bulls for providing a platform in rugby to spread the message on the importance of early detection of cancer.

“We want to thank the Vodacom Bulls for this incredible initiative in helping us to reach as many people as we can, while spreading the message that cancer can be treated more effectively when detected early, while further raising much needed funds to roll out our care and support programmes to those affected by cancer.”

Hell, I know it’s for a good cause… and everything…. but hell no man!

I’d thought we’d seen the last of this ghastly colour the past weekend!

Are the Bulls Union totally out of the general feel of the average Bulls supporter as well as the smirks on the faces of all others, playing in this freegin horrendous garb?

Just who in hell likes the pink, Barend… tell me, because I certainly don’t know any who like it!

  • 2

Berry Fuchsia, Hahahahaha, now I’ve heard it all. Even BvG is in denial!

I have no problem with Bulls highlighting the Cansa campaign. I think it’s a brilliant appeal, and heres hoping they raise a whack of money for the cause. My problem is with the pink colour. Any other colour, and they would have raised the awareness, but the pink colour has all the associations with the season so far, and they are mostly negative. Thus those thoughts are going to continue. Why not make it yellow or something for one match. That would make the front page, not a colour that has been ridiculed already.

But I’m still chuckling about the word ‘berry’, hehehe

Yip, it’s not a little pink, it’s berry, berry pink…. flok!

Interesting number of lines in the Media release though… like these…

“With nearly 3 million supporters in South Africa, along with the highest viewership ratings for Super Rugby matches in 2012 among all the South African franchises..”
“With the largest fan base in South Africa, the highest viewership figures in Vodacom Super Rugby this season as well as a significant growth on our social media platforms, I am confident that the Get Your Pink On campaign will be a resounding success.”
“The Vodacom Bulls versus the DHL Stormers match is regarded as the hottest ticket in town…”

Well, that makes the Bulls the largest supported Super Rugby Franchise… with almost as much if not more than the total New Zealand population supporting the Bulls just in SA alone…

Nou vra julle vir wie ek skree….

5@ grootblousmile:I reckon the Stormers would be right up there if half the province didn’t support the Kiwi’s!!!

  • 8

    @ grootblousmile:
    so iets 😆

  • 9

5@ grootblousmile:I am very impressed with the Bulls marketing, it is the best in the country, and for that, it deserves to be the best supported team. The Stormers marketing, on the other hand, is useless in my opinion. After the Bulls, comes the Sharkies.

    @ grootblousmile:
If you take this site as norm you can see the closet Stormers are coming out now. Look how many new Stormer bloggers came to the fore here.
If they manage to win the Super title their ratings will soar. People like CUP winners. So far that privilege belongs to the Bulls alone.

@ superBul:…Hello Super…hoe gaan dit? Wat was Zapiro’s se strokiesprent?

@ Just For Kicks: Hey GBS Sharks marketing is better!

  • 21

    9 @ Just For Kicks:
Sharkies marketing is very strong… very well done.

One sees Sharks parafanalia everywhere, and every freegin Sharkie has a fishy sticker on his car.

Stormers supporters game attendances is very good.

  • 26

    23 @ 4man:
    Ja, dis Baie Pokken Pienk!

    Hehehe

  • 27

    @ 4man:
@ grootblousmile:Yup, Agree, it is strong, but when you look at the social media campaign, the Bulls tip the scales. Facebook, twitter etc. and that is where the future support comes from.

  • 28

@ grootblousmile:…Ja but its about time the STormers did something…they showed promise last year. The Bulls impress me this year…with major players leaving they are still a huge force….thats lekker. It shows they have got their act together finally at depth. The Sharks generally also maintain when they ahve big staff turnover. Must say Stefan didn’t look the part in the Heineken cup final last week….hy’t n bietjie bang gelyk vir my.
