    Goo Cheetahs!”!

Let’s hope the Chiefs don’t travel well 🙂

Having a look at the Vodacom Cup match between Free State XV and Border Bulldogs… there is ABSOLUTELY NO spectator interest in the game… must be no more than a couple of hundred spectators, if that much… and they all probably just came early for the Cheetahs / Chiefs game anyway!

The Currie Cup has now basically taken the place of the old Vodacom Cup in the pecking order, as far as popularity goes, and the Super Rugby Competition has bcome SA’s only Premier Competition.

The Varsity Cup, is supported much wider than the Vodacom Cup… in fact at the Varsity Cup Final at LC de Villiers Stadium, Tuks Sports Grounds (earlier this week) there were far more spectators than at this morning’s game between the Crusaders and the Stormers in Christchurch, New Zealand… where they had about 17 000 to 18 000 spectators.

My question is this, is there just not enough people in New Zealand to have more people at the Super Rugby games, or is rugby following in New Zealand dropping by huge margins?

If the latter is the case that rugby interest has diminished in New Zealand, how long before it catches up to New Zealand’s overall rugby performances in a big way?

When will we see their player depth dwindle significantly and their Franchises and teams lose more and more… or is this already slowly but surely happening?

When will all of this impact on National level results in New Zealand?

Free State Vodacom Cup squad looking terrible… is THAT the measure of depth in the Cheetahs ranks?

Border is’nt exactly the best Vodacom Cup squad around…

@ grootblousmile:The biggest problem in NZ was the build up hype to the WC. Everything was put into the WC, and they became so obsessed with winning it, the rest of the rugby in domestic, S14 and rest of the world became secondary. Thus the stadium numbers dropped. If you look at the Stadium stats in NZ over the last couple of years, I am sure you will see a gradual decline.

The result is that after the WC finished, there wasn’t the rush back to the stadiums. They have simply lost interest. Also, for the tv, the ko times are just daft. People with families just don’t want to be out so late. It’s easier to stay at home with mates and watch on telly – it’s bloody cold on South Island, especially at night.

2 reasons in my book for the apathy, 1. Too much hype about how the WC is more important than all other rugby, and 2. Just too much rugby played nowadays.

    1. Sad but true. I really don’t like the WC, it is a great event, don’t get me wrong, but it is as if this is all that is important to teams now – Jake White with his “judge me on the WC” shows how important it’s become. I have said so many times, I would be far happier if we played well for 4 years and lost the WC. At least we get good rugby in between.

    2. There is just so much rugby on now, and most of it is rubbish. Imagine if there were just 3 teams from each of the SH countries, and this was on a promotion/relegation system. Wow, we’d see some good rugby. Imagine if we could bring back the big international series with mid week games without compromising other competitions, and lastly imagine a competition where the top teams played in a club championship.

We just don’t get excited about rugby anymore, and that’s sad

Ek weet darem regtig nie of DAAI verskoning goed afgaan nie.

20 minutes till kick off. Beer – check, biltong – check. Wife and kids sent off to look for the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow – that should keep them occupied for a bit, told the wife there was a credit card there too. She won’t be back to disturb me for a while!

    @ grootblousmile:

  • 27

    VRYSTAAAAAAAAAT

As Loskoppie would whoop! Bring us home boys!

  • 28

@ superBul:Howzit, been following you on Facebook, well done looking very good, and busy!

  • 29

    Goooooooooo Staat!

Freegin hell, Cheetahs better be solid on defence!

  • 30

    @ grootblousmile:
