Wat baie intressant gaan wees is hoe die Coach vir Pierre Spies gaan gebruik. Hy was nie vandag gemis op die veld nie, nie sy kapteinskap of sy spel nie. So die rotasie moet net gereeld gebeur om albei gelukig en in vorm te hou. CJ Stander is n groot aanwins vir enige span.

The Stormers showed deadly finishing touches, defeating the Southern Kings 38-13 in a pre-season friendly at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium here on Saturday.
After a tightly contested first half, with the Stormers slightly ahead at 12-10, the Cape side took control.
Number eight Nick Koster and centre Jean de Villiers both dotted down within 15 minutes after the break as the visitors stretched the gap to 24-10.
The Kings were constantly on defence with the Stormers’ accurate recycling of the ball keeping their opponents on the back foot.
First Koster burst through when the Kings defence simply ran out of numbers with fullback Joe Pietersen adding the conversion.
Ten minutes later, Pietersen provided the final pass for De Villiers to cross over untouched.
The Kings, by then, had lost Zane Killian to a yellow card as the Stormers forwards worked well together in driving for the line, resulting in referee Lourens van der Merwe heavily penalising the Kings in the mauls.
Scrumhalf Falie Oelschig kicked a fine penalty from near the touchline to narrow the gap, but soon afterwards the Kings made a hash of a lineout.
It resulted in Bryan Habana, playing at inside centre, bursting through a gap to set up Pietersen for a try which the fullback converted to put the Stormers well up at 31-13.
While the hosts had occasional moments when they threatened the Stormers, the Kings were forced to make numerous tackles to keep the visitors at bay.
It again proved too much for the home side when replacement flyhalf Burton Francis crossed for the final try of the match, which Pietersen again converted.
Not surprisingly, the game ended with the Stormers on attack, as they came close to scoring again but Gio Aplon lost the ball as he made a dart for the line after the hooter had gone.
Aplon had dotted down the first try of the match when he outstripped the Kings defence after a kick ahead in the fourth minute.
Flyhalf Gary van Aswegen added the conversion to make it 7-0.
The Kings, however, hit back in thrilling fashion in the 19th minute when they outwitted the Stormers defence for Norman Nelson to break through for a try next to the posts with Oelschig adding the conversion.
The Stormers recovered well and showed their intent, taking the option of kicking for the touchline rather than posts and this paid dividends when flank Siya Kolisi scored after breaking off a driving maul.
The Kings kept up with a penalty by Oelschig and could have taken the lead into half-time had they kicked for posts again in the dying seconds of the opening period.
Oelschig spotted a gap and tried to burst through, only for his efforts to be snuffed out by some scrambling Stormers defence.
While there was little in it in the first half, the constant tackling took its toll on the Kings with the Stormers reaping the benefits of their attacking policy.

Blue Bulls to lose their daisy?

Cape Town – The Barberton daisy and the light blue colours of Northern Gauteng’s sports teams are under renewed threat from politicians.
The Tshwane Sports Council (TSC), which was formed under suspicious circumstances two years ago, will on 31 March officially become the governing body of sport in the Tshwane region.
And according to the Beeld newspaper this new council is keen to replace the daisy and light blue colours with a more representative emblem and colours.
The daisy has been prominent on the Blue Bulls rugby team’s jerseys for years and feature on most of Northern Gauteng sports teams’ shirts.
“All sports codes in the region would have to conform to the TSC’s constitution,” a well-informed source told Beeld.
“Even though the Blue Bulls and Bulls emblems are registered trademarks, there will definitely be political pressure for only one sports emblem to be used for sports teams.”
The Blue Bulls Rugby Union (BBRU) and the Notherns Cricket Union (Titans) have already indicated they are against this new proposition.
Elise Lombard, CEO of Northerns, said the daisy is the team’s registered trademark.
Chaka Croukamp, vice-president of the BBRU said it doesn’t make sense from a commercial point of view to change the team’s registered trademark.
“It is the union’s registered trademark and is known worldwide.”
Twenty-eight sports codes have already indicated that they do not support the new proposition.
In 2010 the Tshwane Sports Council made five suggestions – all with the colours white, black, yellow and green – to replace the light blue.

Bulls’ coach Frans Ludeke is cautiously optimistic about the coming rugby season after his team – in their first and only outing with a probable Super Rugby squad – comprehensively beat the Cheetahs 39-16 at Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane on Saturday.
The Bulls excelled up front where their retention was outstanding, and the young backline also showed their potential against a shallow and committed Cheetahs defence that gave little away.
Ultimately, however, it was about more than just the winning for Ludeke.
“What was important for me was to look at the things we had been working on, our combinations; there were a number of new players on the field who hadn’t played for us before. We therefore had other goals,” said Ludeke.
He was impressed with the Bulls’ ball retention, but felt they should have finished off more of their opportunities.
“It was a tough contest. It always is against the Cheetahs. We both played to get field position, and I think we succeeded on the day a little better than they did,” he said.
“We can say we’re happy, there is lots of hope for the season as well. A problem was the decision-making,” Ludeke said.
He said opportunities were lost mainly through hanging on to the ball for too long and not feeding the man-over.
He pointed out that this was to be expected in an early outing.
Ludeke said they could only improve and he felt that a great foundation had been laid for the season ahead.
He was also happy with the Bulls’ defence in smothering the Cheetahs’ attacks.
Ludeke said that the Cheetahs were good with ball in hand throughout the match, although they had little in the way of possession for the first 50 minutes or so.
The Bulls coach’s decision to shuffle his backline as a whole also paid dividends.
Of the starting XV, he moved Francois Hougaard to wing in the place of Bjorn Basson, who in turn moved to fullback with Zane Kirchner being deployed at outside centre.
Outside centre Johann Sadie moved to inside centre in place of Francois Venter, who was replaced after a satisfactory first outing at this level.
Louis Fouché replaced Morné Steyn at flyhalf while Jano Vermaak took Hougaard’s place behind the scrum.
Ludeke said the changes were to ascertain what reserve strength he had in all the positions, and was happy with the move. – Sapa

Ou Naka is weer besig om die Nulle met ‘n slap veter te skaapvang lol. Daar was te veel ouens wat net te lusteloos gelyk het ha ha. Sien, ons speel die Nulle in die tweede ronde in Blomfontein, en naka, het gesien, die Nulle is desperaat om te bewys dat hulle nog nie van die vloer af eet nie. So hy sê toe vir die manne, om so biki te sokkel, sodat die nulle sielkundig gekondisioneer is vir die ware jakob. Dan kom hulle met ‘n oormaat selfvertrue Bloem, toe, want hulle “het” mos al die Cheetahs geklop! En siedaar, die Cheetahs verras hulle, so wrintie waar.

A more likely scenario, is that the Bulls lineout, is clearly the better functioning unit in SA at the moment. Greyling’s scrumming was a bit suspect, but maybe my learned friend Loskoppie can shed some light. Cheetahs will look forward to Coenie’s return, hopefully before we go on tour!
