Lions coach John Mitchell has included playmaker flyhalf Elton Jantjies in the team to take on the Southern Kings in a warm-up match in George on Tuesday.

Sport24

Jantjies missed the side’s first pre-season match against the Stormers at the end of January due to injury.

Butch James, who was the pivot against the Capetonians will play off the bench.

The long-term injury to regular hooker Bandise Maku has opened the door to former Maties captain Callie Visagie who will receive a starting berth.

James Kamana replaces Michael Killian on the wing, while Doppies la Grange moves to outside centre in the place of Lionel Mapoe. Alwyn Hollenbach plays on his inside.

Teams:

Kings: TBA

Lions: 15 Jaco Taute, 14 Deon van Rensburg, 13 Doppies la Grange, 12 Alwyn Hollenbach, 11 James Kamana, 10 Elton Jantjies, 9 Michael Bondesio, 8 Joshua Strauss (captain), 7 Derick Minnie, 6 Cobus Grobbelaar, 5 Ruan Botha, 3 Hendrik Roodt, 2 Patric Cilliers, Callie Visagie, 1 JC Janse van Rensburg.

The France vs Ireland Six Nations match that was postponed last weekend due to a frozen pitch has now been rescheduled to take place in March.

French clubs wanted the match to be played in June but Ireland would have been on tour in New Zealand at that time.

The match will now take place on Sunday the 4th of March at 4pm.

Lions now 52-0 after 49 minutes – this is becoming very embarrassing for the Kings

  • 9

    Conversion makes it 54-0

Lions 59-0 after 59 minutes – as fast as I can type, the Lions are scoring!

  • 11

Make that 66-0, but a mistake on my part, only 55 minutes on the clock now!

70 min gone, can the Lions hit the ton mark. What has this match shown JM?

  • 16

88-0, 76 minutes gone, Lions cutting it fine!

  • 17

Thats how it ends folks, Lion just squeak past the Kings 88-0. Although this was n’t the real Kings team, rather a blend of EP and Border. We have to wait till Friday for the real Kings team. How exciting! JM must be seething. What a wasted trip, I seem to remember him say that he was going to boycott the match if Kings fielded a second string – I suppose that means Kings go 1 up in that regard!!!

Johannesburg – The Lions have thrashed a Southern Kings team made up of Border and SWD players in a pre-season friendly in George on Tuesday night.

The men from Johannesburg won 88-0, after leading 40-0 at the break.

Flyhalf Elton Jantjies crossed for two tries and kicked nine conversions for a personal tally of 28 points as the Super Rugby franchise demonstrated the gulf between those in the system and those who are desperately trying to get there.

What a waste of time some of these teams have with their warm ups.

I am obvious Blue Bull, but at least we USED our game against the Cheetahs by playing our best available team against a team who must have played with at least 80% of their best.
Who benefited in their warm ups? Time will tel.

But i feel happier than most others.

Kings are pathetic, combined team or no. If you play under the name of the Kings you are representing the Kings, i.e. Lions 88 Kings 0!
Like someone famous used to say, “looks at the scoreboard”

  • 21

The Kings are a laugh…..and they want them to play S15.

Tsotsobe just had a hat trick in NZ. Proteas play a warm up game

    1.5

Tsotsobe to Worker, OUT, gets underneath a full ball on middle and times the loft nicely but gets too much elevation and not enough distance as it drops towards the edge of the circle where Morne Morkel waits and waits before diving to take the catch

    GH Worker c M Morkel b Tsotsobe 4 (10b 1×4 0x6) SR: 40.00
    Canterbury 6/1 PG Fulton 0* (1b) LL Tsotsobe 0.5-0-1-1

    1.6

Tsotsobe to Fulton, OUT, two in two for Lonwabo as he bowled it full outside off and Fulton drove at it without moving the feet, gets a thick inside edge into the stumps via back pad

    PG Fulton b Tsotsobe 0 (2b 0x4 0x6) SR: 0.00
    Canterbury 6/2 SL Stewart 0* (0b) LL Tsotsobe 1-0-1-2

    3.1

Tsotsobe to Stewart, OUT, and he gets it! Perfect ball to bowl, it was full on middle and off and swung back in, Stewart had planted the front pad across and tried to play around it but couldn’t get bat on it and the finger went up fairly quickly

    SL Stewart lbw b Tsotsobe 2 (4b 0x4 0x6) SR: 50.00
    Canterbury 9/3 TWM Latham 1* (3b) LL Tsotsobe 1.1-0-1-3

  • 24

    LL Tsotsobe 3-0-9-4
He is unplayable , it seems

No off to work, chat later.
