It is Sunday 29 January 2012 and it has just hit me that this was the last weekend of the year (till deep into December) where we would not have either quality Southern Hemisphere rugby or good International rugby to look forward to.
Get your rugby gear ready, washed & pressed, give the women folks a last good squeeze & tickle and watch ALL the crappy soapies, reality dancing and singing TV shows & chick flieks you possibly can today. Build up the last few remaining brownie points, which you should have started building up from about 10 December 2011.
Why do you ask, what’s happening?
Well, for starters the first live Varsity Cup rugby is on TV tomorrow (Monday) late agternoon and into the evening, the first match starting at 17:00 between Central University of Technology (CUT) vs Wits, followed by the match between University of Fort Hare (UFH) vs University of the Western Cape (UWC) at 19:00, both broadcast on SuperSport 1.
Apart from that, the 2012 SIX Nations internationals kicks off this coming weekend!
This means, apart from being glued to the TV for live rugby, that the TV Rugby magazine programs like Boots & All and Super Rugby are back in their regular TV spots,with Boots & All on a Thursday night and Super Rugby on a Monday night…. as well of course Reunion, the New Zealand & Australian discussion program.
Although we’ve had a couple of Super Rugby warm-up matches already, warm-ups start in earnest this coming weekend.
Handbriekie, you know I love you… but I’m a rugby man, a rugby mad supporter, forgive me.. and please, please bear with me and my rugby for the year!
Time to get your Varsity Cup SuperBru picks in, your SIX Nations picks sorted to be done by Friday evening…
