Golden Lions coach John Mitchell has made three changes to his backline from the side that beat the Pumas last Friday night for the Currie Cup match against GWK Griquas in Kimberley on Saturday.

Notable is the return of Springbok Waylon Murray at outside centre, which forces Alwyn Hollenbach to the replacement bench.

In the other changes Michael Killian is also back in the starting line-up. He replaces fullback Jaco Taute who injured his shoulder last weekend. On the right wing Deon van Rensburg returns in place of Dylan des Fountain.

The pack is retained as a whole, but stalwart loosehead JC Janse van Rensburg has recovered from a niggle that saw him miss last weekend’s match as a precautionary measure.

He starts on the bench in place of Caylib Oosthuizen with Pat Cilliers again selected at loosehead.

Lions:

15 Michael Killian, 14 Deon van Rensburg, 13 Waylon Murray, 12 Doppies La Grange, 11 Lionel Mapoe, 10 Burton Francis, 9 Jano Vermaak, 8 Joshua Strauss, 7 Derick Minnie, 6 Cobus Grobbelaar, 5 Franco van der Merwe, 4 Wikus van Heerden, 3 Jacobie Adriaanse, 2 Bandise Maku, 1 Pat Cilliers.

Replacements: 16 Martin Bezuidenhout, JC Janse van Rensburg, 18 Johan Snyman, 19 Dries van Schalkwyk, 20 Michael Bondesio, 21 Hein Cronje, Alwyn Hollenbach.

Tough task to go to Kimberley and try to get some points.

Doubtful whether Taute was actually injured. Certainly didn’t seem so when he came off.

Mitchell did say at the presser that if players didn’t stop the individualism they would “learn the hard way”. Laat ‘n mens dink ne?

Also, lets face it, between Taute and des Fountain, their right wing had holes in it big enough to drive a London bus being driven by my 9 year old daughter through.

Pumas had more overlap’s than a Scotsman’s kilt.

Never easy to play the Kwas on their home turf!!! Damn just thinking about the hard pitch is frightening enough 🙂
