I was browsing for rugby news, and nearly swallowed my coffee cup… as I read on Sport24… then I just laughed.

Luke Watson was presented to the media in Cape Town by Highbury Safika Media (HSM – publishers of SA Rugby magazine and www.keo.co.za amongst others).

HSM, at the same function, confirmed their entry into the sports management market with their signing of the fiery Springbok, Bath and EP Kings loose forward.

Questioned on any potential conflict of interest given that Watson just happens to be the poster and cover model for this month’s issue of SA Rugby magazine, HSM CEO Kevin Ferguson was confident in the belief that his editorial teams would pick covers and features based on servicing readers rather than any other potentially nefarious reasons.

Backing up their CEO were Commercial Director, and the man who will run the player management side of the business, Shane Keohane, brother to HSM Chief Operating Officer, Mark Keohane, who were both at pains to stress that the two sides of the business would be kept very separate.

“As a player I wanted to be aligned with a vibrant company who share my enthusiasm for Eastern Province and South African rugby, and who also believe there is a different way to manage the careers of players,” said Watson.

Watson arrives in Port Elizabeth at the weekend and will represent the Kings in the guise of the South African Kings in June’s IRB sanctioned Emerging Nations tournament to be hosted by Romania. The Kings replace the Emerging Springboks as South Africa’s tournament representative.

I guess objectivity must now be taken with even less than a pinch of salt…

    I’m good too.

We had a public holiday yesterday, as it was Municipal voting day in SA. SA is today counting votes like mad, the results trickling in slowly… not much changing.

So we can look forward to continuing potholes in our roads, continued bad service delivery from local government and our road structures continuiing to be the bane of motorists!

How long I wonder, will it take for the local government to become more productive and effective?

It must be incredibly annoying having such poor service delivery from the big organisations?

You just have to take a deep breath and try to convince yourelf it is all for the greater good, but with the levels of incompetence and corruption it must be hard in some places to bother to vote at all!!

Any Country needs strong Opposition in Politics to keep the Ruling Party in check and on their toes…. and therefor committed to responsible government and proper Service Delivery.

In SA it seems that in future it will be a 2-horse race, with the smaller Parties virtually now falling by the wayside and the ANC and DA the 2 main contenders. The DA seems to have made some ground on the ANC in this election but I never expected the ANC to surrender too much of their majority percentages…. which indeed seems to be the situation.

In a democracy, ideally though, there should be a situation where the Opposition becomes more of a factor, that is at least over the 40% mark… maybe that will be achieved in 2 Elections from now as SA slowly moves away from historical allegiance and traditional support and voting, to Service Delivey support.

    Enough of this…

    @ Ashley:
Stormers performance improved remarkably after he left…Watson-Stormers…..Torres-Liverpool…..some things just don’t fit. My only concern is that we don’t alienate the Kings from SA ruby because of one guy (the supporters that is)…..I think Watson played well overseas when he had no clouds hanging around his head…..his performance will now drop again…..mark my words and diarise them for a years time.
