Adidas today unveiled the new DHL Stormers jersey for the 2011 Vodacom Super Rugby season –signalling a new era for Stormers Rugby, who recently secured DHL as their new premier sponsor.

The design of the new jersey was inspired by the desire to create a link between two brands -Western Province and the Stormers. Rob Wagner, CEO DHL Stormers, commented,” WP Rugby runs two rugby brands, the DHL Stormers and DHL WP. Our WP brand is history, heritage and tradition-based and is famously symbolised by the blue and white hoops. Our Super Rugby brand, the Stormers, which has over time moved from black to blue, will now also carry a stripe element for the first time, helping reinforce its link with Province.”
Mr Wagner continued,” We are proud of our longstanding association with adidas and are confident the jersey will meet with the Newlands Faithful approval.”
In addition to the modern design, the new home and away Stormers jerseys –which will be worn for two seasons (2011 &2012) – incorporates the adidas Formotion™ and Climacool™ technologies. This ensures that players will be cool under hot conditions and because of the way the fabric is cut, players will have greater freedom of movement on the field.
DHL Stormers captain Schalk Burger said, “As athletes it’s an honour and a privilege to pull on this strip and play in front of the Faithful. We are all very happy with the new kit and the technologies adidas brings that aid our performance and contribute to all that is the DHL Stormers.”
Gavin Cowley, the Marketing Director at adidas South Africa, said: “The relationship between adidas and Stormers goes back a long way and we always endeavour to produce world class products to assist the players to perform at their best. We are proud to be associated with such a strong rugby brand and we feel positive that players and fans will embrace the new DHL Stormers jersey”.
The new DHL Stormers jerseys go on sale on 03 February 2011 at a recommended retail price of R699 each and it will be available at selected sporting goods retailers countrywide.

Looks like the jersey was designed before the sponsor was secured and then the logo was just plakked on, now maybe if they had stuck to black jerseys the sponsors logo would have matched better 🙂
Hmmm if you look at the looks on their faces its as if they know they are in for a haaaaaaard season and are not looking forward to it!!!
