Rory Kockott is “coming home”.
The 24-year-old scrumhalf has signed a new contract with the Xerox Lions, and that after he, in 2006, played a great game for the Lions against the Sharks.

He moved to Durban in 2007, and is one of several Sharks whose way is leading back to the City of Gold.

He has played in the shadow of Ruan Pienaar and Charl McLeod during the past Currie Cup season and there have been rumours for some time that his playing days with the Sharks could be something of the past.

Kockott hasn’t renewed his contract with the Durban team and according to Brian van Zyl, the executive head, Kockott only found a home with the Lions over the past day or two.

“He was with us this week, saying he can’t manage anything (with the Lions) and whether we can’t help him.”

“We were willing to extend his contract by another six months, but the Lions suddenly sent word that they would sign him,” said Van Zyl.

Apart from McLeod, who was a member of the Springbok team that played against the Barbarians, the Sharks also signed on Conrad Hoffman from the Western Province.

At the Lions, Kockott will compete for the number nine jersey with Jano Vermaak and Michael Bondesio, who played for the Leopards during the past season.

The Sharks type of dealings are now taken over by the Lions. This new partners in Lions Rugby is now on a spending spree. We are in for a very unstable year, not the type of thing we and PdeV needs in the WC year.

The money the Lions spend now….. i just wonder , can you buy a team? Well Louis Luyt did. But are these guys buying the right people?

They can have him Super,I have never rated him and he is a real hot head that loved to give penalties away. McCleod is a much more complete and better player. But all the best to him, lets hope the Sharks have a new talent lined up at the Academy 🙂

Sad to see Rory go, I rated him. With McLeod Sharks have a top class scrummie. Not sure about Hoffman at all, have never seen him play at sh before, so hoping he is as good as everyone says he is, otherwise Sharks made a mistake by not keeping Rory.

Read on SW yesterday Sharky saying this would happen. Sharky your source must be a good one buddy.

Is Rory converting to cricket, or have the Lions got a new sponsor?

Surely the Bizhub Lions are the JHB Cricket franchise?

Knew Kockott would leave the Sharks the moment his contract was done with the Sharks. THey have not given him ANY game time lately. And it doesn’t seem light they fought tooth and nail to retain him.

I kind of wondered if he might sign with the Kings, since he is from the area. But oh well…

Good luck Kockott. I still rate the little bliksem.

Ja…thats what I was going to say…isnt he from the Eastern Cape?

he certainly hasnt been his best lately…lets see how he goes against Jano…I think he will lose that fight and next thing he’ll be in France somewhere.
